  1. Airlines have been warned not to convey Edward Snowden to the UK. This more than anything shows what is being lost. Britain has a very long and honourable tradition of giving shelter to asylum seekers - from the Spanish Inquisition, the Hugenots, through to WW2 and the cold war. More recently that openess has been stretched by economic migrants and those who want to foment against their adopted country. Regardless of whether you think he was right or wrong, surely there can be no clearer example of a man deserving of the title of political refugee and genuine asylum seeker than Snowden. Britain should have the balls to welcome him imo. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22902098
  2. Ah, apologies, mixture of confusion and bad memory. Lexa Doig from Andromeda and Stargate. http://www.gateworld.net/news/2010/02/lexa-doig-cast-in-v/
  3. thats not her imo. THIS is her......
  4. Actually I think you're right, there was an anti terrorism resolution. Nobody felt able to deny the US just a couple of months after the 9/11 attacks. Doesn't change the fact that it was a bad idea to agitate for the resolution at the UN and to put troops on the ground though.
  5. Same applies. The war wasnt approved by the UN Security council. Under the UN charter, which is a binding international treaty ratified by the United States, it is illegal to attack another nation except: 1) when authorized by the Security Council; or 2) when necessary for self-defense and then only for as long as necessary to get the matter to the Security Council.

  7. Frequently they aren't substandard though - they are simply asking the questions readers / viewers want to know the answer to - even though yes, the manager might have answered that before and the journo already knows the answer but still needs a quote.
  8. Should have bought him in January and saved £7m :0 http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/gonzalo-bueno/mwverlaufgraph/spieler_188733.html
  9. Those guys are saps who have been mislead by radical preachers who tell them its Godly to kill people in the name of Allah. Its no different to cults where the religious principles are to **** the leader who made the doctrine up in the first place.
  10. Probably because my country wasn't invaded, had the **** kicked out of it, the infrastructure destroyed and then everbody ****ed off leaving all the problems behind. Im sure if Iraq had done that to Britain you'd be advocating head hacking for some Iraqi Halliburton employee going about his routine repression in the Plymouth green zone.
  11. No, but how did the war benefit anybody? Tens of thousands of Iraqis dead and a more unstable society. In excess of £50bn spent. More terrorism in US and Europe. Just like Afghanistan, a total **** up. Al Queda has been strangled by intelligence and seizing financial assets, not by sacrificing bodies on the ground.
  12. Set up your own search engine or global coffee shop empire.
  13. Im not so much concerned about electronic eavesdropping in isolation - its the combination of that and the gradual but seemingly irreversible move to globalisation that scares me. At present the UK electorate can vote in or vote out the British Government, if they do anything we hate they're gone. However the internationalisation of politics / trade / law is gradually removing the nation states' capacity to act alone - so power is being removed from national electorates. Where we are now if fine imo, but if you look at the trend of the past 60-70 years projecting forward another 60-70 years looks very worrying indeed.

  16. A famous oil painting by Quentin Massys.
  17. Im glad they've gone for knit one, pearl one in Autumn gold - so much more interesting than plain green.
  18. I snogged Naima once. Go me. Tastier than Sharon or Michelle Fowler.
  19. I think it depends on psychology. Whether you are the kind of fan who appreciates the game and the atmosphere or whether you think its important to be on tv, spend a lot of money, and be in the same room as Man U and Man C. I prefer the lg1 and championship campaigns and loathe what the Pl has become.
  20. Surely Verbal's point is that Paps conspiracy theories are very similar to the American right wing truthers and survivalists - who are generally rabidly anti semitic. That doesn't mean Pap is also, but it does mean he is marching in step with some pretty odd company. The Andrew Neil show with Alex Jones the other night was hilarious. They paired Jones with David Aaronovitch, who is Jewish, deliberately in order to send Jones into a headlines grabbing crescendo, it worked a treat. Pap may think he truth seeking, but all the truthers do is weaken and discredit by association genuine thought through concerns about government legislation and the erosion of the balance between privacy, freedom, security and civil liberties.
  21. Anyone can write for that site. I could get an article entitled published saying "Saints look to offload Shaw and Ramirez in a desperate attempt to stay afloat as they hunt for bargains amongst championship reserves". Doesn't make it any more accurate.
  22. He's just the accomplice. The driver has popped out for 20 B&H and a teenage BJ.
  23. Take her to Vegas instead of Ventnor and she might be.
  24. Same here. My girlfriend got admitted to hospital for 10 days taken ill during a work trip to Copenhagen so I flew out for a week to be with her. Was late January and really grey, slushy and bleak. The highlight was being in a bar in Nyhavn watching a game and educating the barman on all things Saints related.
  25. Real shame. Nice video clip of her here winning the Commonwealth games. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/athletics/22825779
