I amazed people still attempt this line. No point in insulating houses / fuel efficiency, renewables - look at how much carbon countries like Indonesia pump out. Meanwhile in Indonesia 'why should we make reductions when the UK emits four times per capita what we do?' Yes China pumps out a lot of carbon - because they now make the goods we used to make and still consume. Britain has largely done well on carbon specifically because we lost energy intensive industries like steel and aluminium smelting, mining etc coal If you look at carbon based on where those goods end up you get a very different picture. We are the consumers. The stuff gets made and shipped because we buy it If there was a carbon tax based on the amount of carbon used to produce and transport a product and payable by the consumer you would still have the same range of goods but a totally different means of production and demand

Even with just one person in a car its less polluting than a plane. Lets not pretend - you want to fly because its fun and you can and its nicer to be in Bora Bora than Nuneaton. Fine make that argument and say you'd rather pay a carbon levy to offset emissions elsewhere. but please spare us the specious mathematically illiterate arguments about how flying is good for the planet.

Because the more inconvenient something is, the less people do it. Would as many people would fly to Europe for the weekend if the nearest airport was 400 miles away? Anyway larger jets are generally more fuel efficient per passenger, so there is a strong argument against regional airports. And yes the M25 reduction would reduce car journeys. Its been proven across the world that the more you build roads then the more people drive.

That's modern political tactics. You don't set out your policies until relatively shortly before an election because otherwise you lose the 'fresh' appeal and also give the opposition the chance to build up a case against them. Until then you just pick holes in the other side and undermine confidence whilst voting for things that are popular and would be passed anyway.

I've never cared about being infected with covid -only about being seriously ill or dying from it.
