  1. for every manager who saw his dismissal coming I will show you 10 who didn't...
  2. Fair question. But the reverse of that question is also true if we look at this logically rather than emotively. Using an extreme to illustrate a point...if Cortese replaced Pardew with Morinho (spelling?) there wouldn't be one person on here saying: "what a crap move". Ok, we're highly unlikely to attract someone from those eschellons but on the manergerial scale if competence there is every chance a replacement for Pardew would be as successful as Pardew has been/could be. So, yes, I agree, it would be a risk but that's what business decisions are all about - measured risk taking
  3. ...comes out in support of Conservatives for first time since 1987...does Murdoch own that one too...?
  4. My view, for what it's worth, is that whilst it would be harsh for Cortese to dispense with Pardew it would not surprise me. As someone has already mentioned, we don't have anything to fear as fans either way. If Pardew stays I think he'll serve us well next season but if he doesn't I'm sure the next manager would ve equally as good if not better. No room for sentiment in this business they call football anymore.
  5. In today's paper. Ok, I know it's the Mail and therefore rubbish by default (obviously) but no smoke without fire...? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1271478/Southampton-boss-Alan-Pardew-fighting-job-failure-reach-playoffs.html

  7. And if only football fans were as risk-free as rugby or cricket crowds we could have the icing on the cake which is drinking our pint of local ale from the comfort of our seats....

  9. Sadly, it looks like I'll be commuting at the magic moment. A disappointing dip in momentum this afternoon.
  10. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article7112732.ece Still, it couldn't get any worse. At least he's not got an interview with Paxman tonight at 8:30pm....doh....

  13. Cheers. It's refreshing to hear a non-Thatcherite respecting her as a politician and having a balanced view of things. A rare commodity these days!

  15. Fine post sir. Any objection if I post a copy of this on my Facebook page? (genuine request!) I've far too many left-wing 'friends' on Facebook whose polarised view on 20th Century history (c.1979 - c.1997) tends to be somewhat blinkered or, as some might say, blinkered by deep rooted bigotry of a certain lady.
  16. I don't know the answer to that but closing down, or selling to the private sector, any inefficient and unsustainable nationalised businesses is the duty of any good Government.
