  1. The police were in a no win situation. They would have been criticised for over-reacting or inflaming the situation in advance if they'd gone for mass cover up front.
  2. Lib Dem voters got exactly what they've been voting for for the last 60 odd years - a compromise government. Nick Clegg made it clear before the election that they would side with the party who got most votes. i.e. Common sense. If lib dem voters think compromise government can somehow be selective to suit political ends rather than common sense ends then they don't get the very basic principle that they campaign for. If they can't stomach compromise government or want to attach conditions to such an outcome then don't vote for it in the first place. FFS.
  3. Correct. The majority never vote for the party in power.
  4. I have been called worse things than a lady's vagina to be fair
  5. If you're gonna get angry at lease throw a brick through someone's window. That'll learn 'em...
  6. Can one assume that the students who organised the protest will have had to pay for the police presence? If not, one assumes these students are clever enough to realise that the public funds that paid for the police presence are funds that are no longer available to pay for the free education that they crave? Clever? Hmmm....
  7. I too assumed the former but the statement didn't rule out the latter. Might be worth ruling that one out too.
  8. "Not Pardew" as in 'Pardew wasn't punched' or "not Pardew" as in 'Not punched by Pardew"? Or both?
  9. The Daily Telegraph is a right-wing newspaper ergo it won't be accurate. ;-)

    Dilema

I didn't see the "go for it" comments as glib....they seemed pretty heartfelt and based on personal experience to me. Dismissing them out of hand is perhaps more glib....? ;-) At the end of the day, either approach (snap decision vs mull over it) can be "best"....it's all about gut feel....

    Dilema

^This, I'm afraid. Really deep "true love" (the 'soul mate' kind) would survive a move of the 'main breadwinner' to another part of the country. I've been married 21 years so know a little bit about lasting relationships if that helps (and doesn't sound too patronising?!) Is there a compromise situation you can go with for, say, the first 6 months? For example, you work in Scotland during the week and 'come home' to the missus at weekends? Again, "true love" would survive (and indeed flourish) under such an arrangement. Edit: Ah, c o c k.....that'll learn me to only read the first few posts before chipping in with a reply...! As you were YOUNG MAN :-)

    Torture

Indeed. It's a bit like the 'PC Brigade' continuing to use products such as toothpaste, cosmetics, etc, that once upon a time were tested on animals to make sure they were safe when first developed. Animals had to die for those products to come onto the market place in the first place but people disconnect themselves from that reality and justify using said products on the basis that there is no longer a direct connection. Humans are very good at being selective with their morals.....
  13. Too ill to work but not ill enough to operate a computer? Are you a public sector worker or something....? ;-)
  14. Only one 'l' in Toniolli (sic)
  15. You've seen the recently discovered Snow White outtakes too then?
  16. On a technicality...!
  17. Damn...beat me by 3 mins! Although I did type mine about 15 mins ago but no bloody data signal on the train. Modern technology....pah!
  18. Nothing new in this tweet from BBC's Dan Roan half hour ago bit worth a mention (perhaps): "Met Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese earlier today - impressive 5 year plan - but totally relies on promotion back to Ch'ship this season"
