It occurred to me earlier that I don't recall Hesketh ever being called up by England at any level (from schoolboys through to U21s) and, true enough, it would appear he's been overlooked as a teenager. Anyone else think that's a bit odd given he's obviously got a lot of natural talent about him? (Yes, I know he's been injured in recent times but still...)

Looking at the replays, I can see why Long scuffed the sitter just before half time. As he goes around the keeper the ball slows up and by the time he shoots the ball is slightly under his feet rather than in front of him, so he's unable to get any power behind it. If he'd pushed the ball around the keeper slightly harder, or wasn't running quite so fast, the timing would have been more perfect for the shot. Fine margins.
