"Only"? Did you not see the size of the hole that Labour left behind to climb out of?

Thread closed. Thanks to everyone for their participation. I'll start another one up in 5 years or so once Labour have buggered things up again. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/jan/16/imf-chief-hails-uk-economic-recovery

Good point. I hadn't considered that. I guess that means that Sky will foot the bill for it then.

Having lost 4 nil, Maybe the newcastle players complained about it? Dunno, just a guess.

Nice

Sticking my neck out here somewhat but I can only see a 0-0 draw for this one. Decent away point.

Agreed. I'm not getting the "we weren't that great" perspective from some. IMO it was a masterclass in how a premier league team should have dealt with the opposition and conditions for a mid-week away cup replay that is sandwiched between two tricky long distance away games in the league. Ok, so we might have won by two or three if we'd been more ruthless in and around their box, but when we're playing in 2nd gear (no doubt under instruction from RK) we're never going to be over committed or clinical in attack. A professional job done.

Yep, almost as irksome as Andy Burnham blaming the nasty Tories for privatising Hinchingbrooke when they simply completed the process Labour started.... -
Fair point. Yep, I agree that it wouldn't alter our recruitment policy fundamentally but I still see it as a route to increasing the overall depth and quality of the squad. Its a game of fine margins and if CL qualification results in a, say, 10% increase in squad depth and quality over and above what it would have been otherwise then that is significant enough IMO. I still want us to win the FA Cup this year as well of course.

Those who are saying "3rd or 4th" over "FA Cup" aren't saying it because they don't want a "day to remember in 2015", they're saying it because they are looking longer term and more pragmatically (IMO). As some have highlighted, finishing in a CL spot means we'll need to assemble a much deeper and more versatile squad for next season, and we will be able to attract a higher quality of player in the process. And once we have that better squad we'll be also be better placed to challenge for a domestic cup. Win win. So, no, people advocating a top 4 league place aren't blithely discarding the chance of "a day to remember", they're simply thinking more longer term. 'The Southampton Way' is all about building-blocks. Even if we get knocked out of the CL at the first hurled, we will still have strengthened our foundations as a result of qualifying. Of course, if we end u doing both the season then everyone's a winner (babe). Just an alternative opinion of course. P.s. I actually think we'll fall short of a CL spot in the end but doesn't mean we shouldn't focus on trying to

Can't see a match reaction thread for tonights game for some reason. Anyway....Koeman's reaction: @bigadamsport: RT @solentsport: #saintsfc boss @RonaldKoeman with @bigadamsport after 1-0 win away at #ITFC https://t.co/Vl4cl5Zaha/s/EeMe via @audioBoom

Koeman possibly overestimated the length of time Mane is out for so fingers crossed he's being over cautious here too.

This. We've played in 2nd gear all game and looking like coming away with a relatively comfortable win against a championship high flyer. Job done.
