Good to read your thoughts FM. I think you've probably addressed your valid concerns by acknowledging that the players took their foot off the gas as soon as the tie was, to all intents and purposes, done and dusted. I agree that "better players would exploit that" but the likelihood is that Saints wouldn't be coasting around the field if we were playing better quality players and in a tie where the result wasn't yet nailed on. I'm more than happy with the 'scrappy' performance. I'm sure if we'd gone all gung-ho for a more convincing display and then lost to Newcastle on Sunday we'd have people on here on Sunday evening bemoaning the unnecessary additional effort we put in vs Vitesse... Just my two pennies worth.

Has anyone worked out yet what the point is of splitting the teams into arbitrary groups ahead of the draw? I'm assuming its UEFA trying to make it appear more 'exciting' than it actually is but maybe there's a more scientific reason that I'm missing somewhere....
