Playing the style of football Puel used was a major part of the issue. Far more enjoyable watching Saints on the front foot with a high press under Hasenhüttl. Sacking Puel was the right thing to do, replacing him with Pellegrino and then Hughes was the mistake.

Plus even if they stay at Saints it potentially makes the time their next contract offer is made sooner and the wage increase comes maybe a year earlier.

Probably the only way Saints are to get into Europe this season is winning the FA Cup. Too far behind in the league and all the teams above Saints apart from Brighton, are better. 9th place and a Cup win would be a superb season. 😇
