I don't, what possible motive is there for Cortese to do that? Far more likely it comes from Man Utd/Chelsea/Man City/Arsenal/Spurs giving these stories to the media to in their eyes ease through a deal.

A senior England cap at 18 is more impressive than playing for Wales at 18. Not Bale's fault he plays for a weak nation, but I was highlighting just how impressive it is for Shaw to be competing for an England World Cup place with Ashley Cole at the age of 18.
-
Bale although very good in 2006/07 was doing it in the Championship. Shaw has played nearly 60 Premier League games, is a first choice player for a top 8 team in England and has a senior England cap. Shaw is the more proven if you compare them at the same age.
-
I didn't say that at all, I wouldn't compleltely rule it out though. Comparing both at 17/18 years old, I'd say Shaw is the more impressive and has achieved more. For Shaw to be at Bale's level when he is 24 years old will be quite something as Bale did improve rapidly. Shaw's finishing would need to improve if he did move forward from left back.
-
Of course it counts, you are comparing an 18 year old with two 21 year olds. They have been professionals for 3 extra seasons. What Shaw has achieved by the age if 18 is more impressive than what either of them had done. Shaw also like Bale played for Saints youth teams as a midfielder, he could quite easily convert back. He has many of the qualities you need in a winger and is given a lot of attacking freedom in Pochettino's system. But Cole isn't playing, so that is a nonsensical argument. Cole is very much on the decline and is far from the player he once was. Flanagan really isn't as impressive as the Scousers and media make out. On average he is beaten more by the opposing winger than any over Premier League defender this season and offers little attacking threat when compared to Shaw.

Shaw has played nearly 60 Premier League games at the age of 18. Bale didn't have anything remotely close to that experience, he played for us in the Championship and took a long time to break into the Spurs team. Comparing them both at 18, Shaw has significantly more experience and proven at a higher level.
-
The two players you mention are 3 years older than Shaw! I think you underestimate how good Shaw is for his age, he is the 1st choice left back for a top 8 Premier League team and has a senior England cap at the age of 18. I think he looks more impressive than Bale did at the same stage.

Very rare in modern top level football for a manager to have sole responsibility for transfers. Things are done by transfer committees of CEO's/chairman/head scouts/DOF's/managers.
-
Did you treat Lallana and Le Tissier the same from their first team debut onwards?
-
It is from a press conference on Southampton property moments before Pochettino faced the press; the club is well aware, arranged it and put it on their youtube channel! How does it undermine Pochettino's role?
-
Bloody hell! Cheer up! That is some bizarre logic.
-
Pretty much every club pays for transfers in instalments and have outstanding transfer fees to pay, this isn't unique to Saints. Saints will get circa £17m this summer just as prize money for an 8th place finish. Let alone next season's TV money, selling Osvaldo and removing Sharp, Forte, Barnard, Hooiveld etc from the wage bill which will fee up money to be used elsewhere. They also should be able to get a better sponsorship deal than they had with aap3.
-
Perhaps not, but it'll make their probable team line-ups more accurate. Plus BBC Radio Solent never seem to look at the training galleries/videos and appear confused when players are available/missing on match day.
-
Illness or injury, who knows...? Maybe a journalist at the press conference will ask a question about the game and find out? You'd think if a journalist was going to a pre-match press conference they'd do some research beforehand, look through the training photos/videos on the Thursday and see who wasn't present and ask questions about it. All they do is ask constant questions about Shaw/Pochettino and then appear surprised when they get the same (lack of) answer week after week.
-
It normally does indicate they weren't in full training that day. 72 photos is quite a lot for someone not to appear in at all if they were present, even if just in the background.

If Chambers for example makes an attacking run, crosses it, Lambert knocks it down and Rodriguez scores then merely looking at "assists" won't give Chambers any credit as an attacking fullback.
-
Not many, but it doesn't mean they don't play with a huge amount of attacking license. If Chambers for example makes an attacking run, crosses it, Lambert knocks it down and Rodriguez scores then merely looking at "assists" won't give Chambers any credit as an attacking fullback.

We spent £73m on players in the following two seasons in a huge net spend (one of the biggest in England).
-
Saints will get circa £17m in prize money for an 8th place finish. Why "use" the Shaw money to cover debts of Osvaldo and Ramirez when other income covers it? Osvaldo will also likely to be sold, might not get what we paid but it will bring a reasonable amount in.
-
No, it goes into the club's account. In the last two seasons since returning to the Premier League Saints have spent... 2012/13 - £37m 2013/14 - £36m Both whilst under the ownership of Katharina Liebherr. Saints don't have to sell Shaw, and are likely to spend in the summer regardless of Shaw going or not. If Shaw goes for £30m that is additional money on top of circa £17m prize money, the huge amount of TV money, sponsorship money etc.
-
This whole discussion is about if we sell a player for £30m. So yes, if he is sold when we don't need to sell him, then why not spend £8m to 12m on a replacement?
