All three were competing for the same positions. The wide midfielder roles in a 442. Puncheon lost out because Lallana and Chamberlain are better in the role, a role which is Puncheon's natural position.
-
So you would drop one of the highest rated English prospects from third tier matches, in order to play Puncheon? As I said earlier, I think Puncheon is a good player, I just think Lallana and Chamberlain are much better. If it were Chamberlain or Lallana on loan at Millwall and Blackpool last season, I think you would have seen even more impressive performances from them at that the respective levels compared Puncheon.
-
If Puncheon can make a mark in the Premier League, do you not think Lallana could? Lallana is clearly the better player of the two. The quality of Chamberlain and Lallana was the main reason Puncheon was loaned out. His alleged unprofessionalism is likely to have been a result of having to play second fiddle to a talented 17 year old and not able to start games in the third tier.
-
So which of Chamberlain or Lallana would you have dropped to a League One substitute bench in order to accommodate Puncheon in the starting eleven? I'm not saying Puncheon is a bad player, he clearly isn't. But Chamberlain and Lallana are both better, I'm surprised you think otherwise.
-
If Puncheon can do reasonably well in the Premier League, do you not think Lallana and Chamberlain could? After all, they were the ones keeping Puncheon out of the Saints team. Cork has already shown he can do well in the Premier League in a brief time there. I think Schneiderlin and Fonte would also do well.
-
Because he said... "we don't appear to be looking further than promotion this time around" Keeping Chamberlain, Fonte and Schneiderlin at the club, signing Lallana on a new long term contract and signing Jack Cork, all indicate looking long term towards a possible Premier League future. Keeping your best players can be just as important as signing new ones.
-
Cork, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Chamberlain and Fonte all have a good chance of playing in the Premier League in the future. That is five players to get started with...
-
How have you managed to switch this around? It was you that claimed Jemal was the "only player on Saints radar", not me. I haven't a clue who Saints are trying to buy, have on any shortlist/radar etc etc. You however implied that you do.
-
"Expecting" and "definitely said that there would definitely be another signing before the Leeds game", are two very different things. You made a statement, "At the time Jemal was the only player on Saints radar". A fan not being aware of a clubs transfer activity, does not mean he is the only player on the clubs radar.
-
No he didn't. If he did I'd like you to show me where he did, because I think you have just made that up. Secondly how do you know "Jemal was the only player on Saints radar"? I think that is extremely unlikely.
-
SaintsRichmond, why are you ignoring the question put to you about the point you made... When did Adkins say this about Jemal?
-
Will they? They have run out of parachute money this season, selling off high earners and relying on the kids to plug gaps. A bit like Saints in 2007/8 and 2008/09 and we all know what happened then...
-
He is 29 years old. Peak years for a footballer.
-
When did Adkins say Jemal is a "deal that has been done"?
-
Tonight's game wasn't a first team match.

Jack Stephens is currently in Denmark with the under 18's.

Fusu, Blackwood and McCarthy - Task to find out who they are!
Matthew Le God replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
No Jason McCarthy. James McCarthy is an international that has a good amount of Premier League experience, he isn't going to be playing as a trialist for Saints development side. -
You aren't allowed to do that in official friendlies. It is Alberto Seidi.

Good spot and seems possible. Fits in with the requirements of the development team. -
Tonights line-up against Eastleigh... Forecast, Blackwood, Dickson, Racine, Dean, Robinson, Fusu, Holmes, Isgrove, Forte, Mills subs: Dovey, Hoskins, Saville, Seidi, McCarthy Everyone there I know, apart from I have no idea who Blackwood or Fusu are! Lets track them down using the wonders of Google... Update Blackwood - OS confirm "Blackwood" is Anton Blackwood, formally of Arsenal and Tottenham (goes off injured after 16 minutes) Fusu - Might be Jessy Teboul Lando Fusu

Possibly they are trialists, as the under 18's (with a squad of 22 players) are in Scandinavia at the moment.

There is a significant difference between people amending player entries on Wikipedia saying they have signed for Saints and someone editing the record on Wikipedia for the African Cup of Nations qualifying to make it look like Tunisia may not qualify. If you can't see that I don't know what I can say to you. In any case that Wiki page has numerous links to reliable sources which corroborate it.

Contrary to what some Saints fans believe, Leeds United still haven't sold out their allocation. They are very close though... http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20110802/last-100-for-southampton_2247585_2408065

People that eat before and/or after going out to the football. Pointless queuing for a pie or a drink when you have paid to watch football. May as well give Greggs £30 to stand in their queue in the city centre whilst the game is going on.
