  1. That would be first favourite for me too. Second favourite is a non-starting squad player from Germany/France/Spain for about 4.0m. A player we have all heard of who has scored 20+ goals in the PL ..... 25/1. (Ullaoa would be decent in front of Tadic/Boufal/Redmond, come on Claude, embrace the 4-2-3-1, we have the players to play it.)
  2. How was it? Massively over-hyped is how it was. The football seemed to be an adjunct or secondary to the whole UEFA 'experience'. Who wants to go to football on a Thursday evening anyway? Looking at the 6 games we played in the round you would have to say you would see more excitement and more quality in 6 PL games. Thoroughly enjoyed both Inter games, the rest of it was all a bit meh. Hopefully the rotation has given Puel a good look at all his options and we have enough left in the tank to get through Xmas and then consolidate in the league. Does make you wonder what the point of qualifying was when we went out with such a whimper.
  3. Agree, he was the single worst thing about the whole piece, embarrassed us right across a whole continent. Reckon he/it was a skate on a wind up (fair play if it was!)
  4. Time for a re-think and a back to the future 4-2-3-1 Usual across the back Romeu + one ... don't have any great preference for JWP/Hoj/Clasie .. they can all do that job Boufal and Tadic plus Davis Long up front Would for me be the way to go from here for home games especially, 'rest' Redmond, he looks physically and mentally shot, he's not good enough at this stage for the role he's being expected to play. Bin the negative 4-3-3, hoof it in from wide stylee.
  5. Moronic suggestion. Like something a very bad kids team would do. But exactly what happens when you elevate one special player above all others. Of course he's good but he can't do it on his own. Maybe he should run out on Sunday with his underpants over the top of his shorts? I've not read the match thread but he looked seriously ****ed off after the game...
  6. According to today's G. the payment(s) were paid 'in the last three years' which is just extraordinary if it's true.
  7. #meltdownsRus
  8. Has been excellent all season, top quality 3rd CB.
  9. Forster sweeping better tonight? He has had more touches outside the 6 yd box tonight than in pretty much any game I've seen.
  10. Or maybe the taxidermist the way he stuffs'em?
  11. It would be gutting to see him go for less than Stones but guess that's the English premium thing. Cheers to ADutchSaint above, sort of what I was asking yesterday, looks like people expecting 60m-70m are going to be disappointed.
  12. Martina is better in the air, and that goal, and he appears to be available more regularly than Cedric. Cedric has had two of his best games for us v Liverpool and Everton, after a long period of unavailability. Cuco's not been as good this season as he was at times last season. Cedric's had some pretty meh games for us too. Horses for courses, they can both DAJFU, in reality, to move on, we can probably do better. Compare Bertrand/Targett/McQueen, I would say we have overall more strength on the left than the right.
  13. I remember, as a fresh faced 14 year-old listening to the semi-final draw, on the playing fields of Hamble, on a Monday lunchtime, on a tranny; and Derby will play ... Manchester Utd ...... we didn't hear the rest, cue mass bundle as Southampton will play third division Crystal Palace, but I digress. Nail Cedric and Cuco together and you'd have one decent right back, maybe breed them and, gender permitting, we'd have our next big seller in 20 year's time.
  14. Of course! Duh!!
  15. Sick of people constantly under-valuing our players, anything under 80m and next year's ST's going in the bin. Seriously? A big team is going to give a small team 70m for a centre half with no CL experience, I just can't see it (however good we know him to be). Out of interest what are the biggest prices received by non-CL clubs when selling to the elite level?
  16. Probably along with all 91 other clubs ... this is not a club v club issue. Let's hope all perpetrators are bought to justice, all victims are supported and that we create the systems where this can't happen again.... at any club or in any junior sport.
  17. Cheers, saved me looking it up,that about sums up my interest in European/Champions Lge football!
  18. Every cloud and all that, if we limp past BS we could get a decent draw in the knockouts! I went to Milan and would love another go to somewhere else - big team, big ground, somewhere decent and not too far away will do nicely. Can we draw Celtic in the current permutations?
  19. That's the spirit! The meter's running and that cost of £2000 per head is probably rising by the day....
  20. Playing a dangerous game looking that far forward. What he's worth is what he's worth today. He could lose form or he's always just one injury away from being the player he could have become. If we were offered silly money this year it would be a massive gamble to hang on for silly money plus one in the following year. We don't 'need' him under our model, cheaper replacements are always available and once he has reached the level where he has out-grown us and we have received a suitable (derisory) offer he will be on his way. cf Mane, we cashed in, some would say a year too early but we've got the money in the bank and the world hasn't stopped turning without him.
  21. Boring, nothing to see here, unless you're new to this story it's been done to death umpteen times before.
  22. Keep up, I doubt Hants CC has employed a binman or a roadsweeper for 20 years, it's all privatised, the council commissions the contract, the contractor employs the staff. Not sure where the figure of 34k came from? I've just had a look and I found a figure of 9,500 FTE employees, mainly employed in children's services and in adult care. In Dorset (a smaller county/population) the number of FTE employees has fallen from 5400 to 4200 between June 2015 and June 2016 according to their online documentation. Numbers of people employed by councils has fallen drastically due to privatisation, 'cuts', and not least acadamisation of schools. Not sure where the EU angle is in all this but a council like Hants prob employs fewer than 200 full-on beauacrats/administrators (to oversee local taxation, public spending, public health, civil defence, planning, what's left of education, adult care, children's services, waste disposal/re-cycling etc.) so the EU figure of 24000 to administer 28 countries is probably not excessive.
  23. We had Van Djk, Virgil van Dijk, Our more retarded fans just didn’t understand, He was much too good for us So stop making that chuffing fuss And learn to love the Southampton Way. Repeat.
  24. I remember a time when we would have taken the positives, not got too high, not got too low, drawn a blue line under it and moved on. Forster's best game of the season Bertrand's best game of the season Cedric's best game of the season Long looked fit and quick Clean sheet against the free-scoring league leaders Boufal looks like he could be a player that gets bums off of seats We've played Utd/City/Arse/Dippers, we now have a run of games against teams around us and below us, hopefully we will pick up enough points to keep station in mid-table and progress in Europa. Hard to get excited about watching us park the bus at home but I'll cut Puel some slack, he really lacks a cutting edge so suicide to go toe to toe with Liverpool.
  25. Suggest it's a neocon Govt trick to get 13 months tax per-year for every car that changes hands during a year...... resistance is futile, this is just the sort of stroke to expect from a gov that purports to be on the side of ordinary hard-working families. I wouldn't try and be clever with it, this has been the law for several years now, your car is technically untaxed (even though you have paid!) and you 'will' be fined if you are caught on a number plate recognition camera without tax.
