As per the 9 above, in the reality of 'game play' this shot isn't saveable. The GK has to cover a number of different (and more likely) options, a ball hit high and fast and dipping into the top left corner (going in via the post) is one option that he has to give the forward (on the basis that the keeper holds 90% of the cards). Stek facing that shot on the training ground can just about reach it (it's fast and it's high) but he can probably physically reach it. If Willian pulls out a finish with a difficulty of more than 1/10 he scores .. he did .. get over it.

Dover Brighton Wolves Ipswich Charlton West Brom Family and friends innit. I'm not sure that many people follow the results in a way that they once did (talking about my generation .. 'It's sports report...de dum de dum de dum de dum toody a doo te too!' ) That shared collective has gone, Sky rank 'champions league' group tables above Championship/Lge 1/Lge 2 on their app. I can honestly say I am not that aware of Champ/Div1/Div2 results unless I actively seek them out and I would consider myself a football fan of nearly 50 years standing....

When have we ever got the ball quickly to Pelle 'on the deck', is that likely against Chelsea's midfield? What's he gonna do, bend fd and trap it with his chest? Pelle has the turning circle of a supertanker and isn't a 'to feet' player. Why will we have an absent midfield? 3 from VW, Rom/SD/JWP are more than capable of DAJFU. Ideal scenario is to scrap and frustrate, score from a set piece/penno on 80 minutes and then battle to hang on. I predict heroics from VD (ooh), and Stek, hope Fonte is up for it, JWP to continue his recent performances, maybe an assist from Tadic. I doubt we will have time to breathe. let alone 'get runners around him'.

Jan Transfer Window One Realistic Signing Who Would You Buy

Forum gold, one man comparing another man's (hypothetical) choices of players to buy and sell on a fans' forum chat site to a computer simulation game. -
Aren't people over-thinking this a bit? Mostly managers are either a) sacked (cos the team's doing poorly) or b) leave you in the lurch for a mega-money/spiritual-home type walk-out. I'm quite happy with c) we contract a manger who stays for three seasons, he shakes hands and walks away at the end of the contract, hopefully having left us in better shape than when he started (and we get fully 12 months to plan the succession).

Pictures? Is this the biggish guy that sits up towards the back of Block 39 and starts random songs, loudly, on his own? Wears a (tartan?) cap/tam'o'shanter type of thing on his head?

Agree, massive pressure on Fonte (again) and Wanyama; Pelle played really well yesterday (wish he would lose the attitude and the moaning at team mates tho, that's really not the Southampton way), Mane excellent yesterday, green shoots with JWP too, he has put in a decent shift in all of the last three games. Really fear for us if/when we lose Wanyame and Mane tho, black box seems to have lost it's way somewhat.
-
This season: we retained Wanyama, and added: Soares/Romue/Martina/Juanmi they retained De Gea, and added: Schweinsteiger/Schneiderlin/De pay/Martial. Fine margins yesterday, we were out-played/we stopped playing for the middle third of the game, there was an an off-side goal, a horrendous individual error and a ridiculous humiliation of a third goal, apart from all that we looked pretty good at times and their keeper was the man of the match. Funny old game football.

I'm not sure about a Hotpoint washer/dryer, we've always used a Filipino.

Only three teams have more shots on target, yet 12 teams have scored more goals. Based on that we're not boring or over-defensive, we're just carp at turning shots-on-target into balls-into-the-net. Perhaps we don't create very clear cut chances, or too-often we shoot from unproductive areas, or our finishing isn't as clinical as (most) other teams? I'm sure RK's on to it.

Is "The Southampton Way" of playing obsolete?
sandwichsaint replied to dubai_phil's topic in The Saints
Nutshell, we can play anyway and every way but whichever way we play we are short of 10-15 goals a season from midfield. Would be massive to our team if we could find/buy two AM type players who were good enough to go straight in, all the time we really on JWP and Davis we will never carry much of a goal threat from midfield - maybe that could change if/when Juanmi gets up to speed, ditto Classie; Romeu also had a couple of decent digs in the Euro games so maybe it's not all doom and gloom but I expect a few more 0-0's this season! -
Excellent, had relatively little to do but looked class throughout, strong in the air, excellent tech ability with the ball at his feet, confident carrying the ball out (admittedly against a feeble West Brom who were happy to sit deep), great distribution. Good talker, seemed to click straight away with the keeper/Fonte/VW. Only downside was over-confidence, got caught twice over-playing but I'm sure he can eradicate that when he gets up to PL speed. Toby who?

Glass half full - considering where we were a few weeks ago the last two games we've looked much more like our old selves, we should have taken 6 points but I guess we'll take 4 points. We've tightened up at the back and we've got rid of the hoofing, VVD looked really good, Tadic showing some promise. Always hard to play against a Pullis side, 8 men behind the ball, hoof, foul, kick, repeat. We were by far the better side today, we never looked like losing, unfortunately we lack a 'number 10', Ho hum, random made up statistic, we've had more 0-0's this season than we had in 46 games in the championship (possibly?)

TBF, Dalek does it better.

So you mean he's over-achieving with a settled core of Prem Lge players, he's got them all on the bus and rowing in the same direction, and he is integrating/managing his star player really well? Sounds ideal, to me.

Chris Coleman?
-
Almost certainly yes, unless anyone knows different? All clubs take their allocation of away tickets on the basis they sell the whole allocation, therefore the club has to make up the shortfall on any unsold tickets. Hence clubs often taking 'an initial allocation' and then adding subsequent blocks. Also why we take what sometimes can seem like small allocations for certain games. It's a pretty logical and 'fair' system if you look at it objectively.

I think he'll play, he's match fit, he's a decent footballer and it's arguably the 'easiest' of the next three fixtures, get him in the team! We have some attractive attacking options but I wouldn't be surprised to see a 5-4-1 away at a Pullis side. Intrigued to see if VW plays, I think he won't. 0-1 Pelle, we'll score from a set piece.

And Morgan presumably valued down because of his relative lack of international experience? -
Although of course if the action of the Government was illegal (I don't know if it was or not, that's why I used 'if') then it makes the Government no better than the terrorists themselves. Either we have a rule of law, domestically and internationally, or we don't. A large part of terrorist activity can be traced to 'illegal' action in the past but if you're happy for the usual suspects to keep throwing fuel on the fire then you annihilate away, but don't forgot that every action has an equal and opposite (over)reaction.

'Brooks back with a Bang!' see what I did there? Scum paper, they've had a promotion in our local store for the last couple of weeks where they've been giving them away. 'Would like a free copy of the Sun today?', thankfully the take-up is pretty low.
