I thought the Guardian piece was fair comment, the writer was writing for a neutral audience and was putting out there what we all know, our home record isn't great and for the money spent, the ambitions of the owners and the general feel-good vibe around Saints as a team 'on the up' it needs to be much better. I am surprised how relaxed people are with a 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland who by all accounts were pretty dire. I know it's all aunties and uncles but if we had lost 0-1 or even drawn 0-0 at WBA would we all be so incredibly relaxed with Saturday's result? WBA was a cracking result and we should have followed it up on Saturday.

Has anybody else got spare numbers? I would love two tickets, I've seen Saints in most places but I've never been to Anfield. Happy to pay face value plus a little something for your time.

I'll go with a clean sheet for us, we looked very solid last week. A 1-0 or 2-0 win would be absolutely fine, I'm going for 2-0, J Rod and SRL. Haven't got a clue about the team but a sneaky feeling JWP has done enough to stay in the starting X1 this week. Happy days (we're not going unfortunately, on flipping wedding duty with a bunch of Brighton and Cov fans, also a couple of Saints ST's there who will be gutted to be missing it).

Have you ever been this excited about a season kick off?
sandwichsaint replied to chocco boxo's topic in The Saints
Just another season, hopefully we won't get anywhere near the relegation spots, and would love to see a cup run but the 'modern' game tends to mitigate against this, Prem position is everything as the poster above, creaming at a top 10 finish indicates only too well. Squad still looks skinny and we have to hope injuries and suspensions were as kind as they were last year, our A team on their day will give anybody a game but how many performances can MP conjure from the same limited hand? Our second string will struggle so hopefully we won't need them too much. One more good signing would make a massive difference, I think we'll get one (a left-field panic buy, right at the death). A solid second season finishing 10-11-12, and a major upgrade needed to take us any higher. -
Brilliant, only four more players to find and football's coming home, or something like that.

Possibly my nipper? He was out there this week.

That's made me genuinely LOL! -
Utterly utterly abysmal, looks every bit as gross in the flesh as it does in the box. Looks like a park kit a Sunday pub team would order out of a catalogue (which in fact is exactly what it is). Foul shade of red, the gold print is laughably naff (presumably the names and numbers are gold too? and won't be visible from more than about 10 yards away). WTF are the white water wings in aid of? Why are they cut in with red below them? White sleeves would have been better. The collar is a mess. Black shorts might have redeemed it by a small amount. I don't even like the socks - been better with just the 'three stripes' at the top and a plain red leg, or my personal pref would be for plain red with just one band (or three little bands) round the shin. The whole package is just over-designed and by the looks of the fit and the comments we've seen, under-engineered and lacking in quality. The whole package just looks cheap and tacky, looks like it was designed by a 7 yr old using Paint. £50 for that shirt, they're 'aving a larf!

Puncheon as Robben and SRL as Drogba? Time to turn the lights off and have a little lie down.

Why would we want with a washed-up domestiqe from Euskatel?

If Peter Reid's on the bus we all need to head for the lifeboats.

The Saints Squad as it now stands... where are the gaps?
sandwichsaint replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
We can field a pretty tasty first eleven. As soon as we get to second choices we struggle. We could play some attractive football and finish solidly mid-table. We need a top line striker and a wide player, and some full back cover, if we are to break top-8. Plus ca change? -
Wind behind must have been worth something? From the TV pics it appeared to be blowing right behind them up those long exposed straights. Awesome performance from Froome but I reckon these whispers won't be going away any time soon. Contador's perf has certainly dropped since he changed his butchers.

Yeh, Shanks on Ron Yeats.

Let's hope when he gets to meet the press Poch invites them 'to take a walk round him'. One for the (grand)dads - who originally said that of whom?

Benteke hands in transfer request on SNN now. Don't know what that means for us? L'pool. Chels, Spuds interested.... does that free up anyone for us? (doubt it, they can afford to keep 3 teams before they free up anyone to a potential 'rival') LOL at the world gone mad (is Beneteke actually 'that' good?)

Brilliant, that's the first time I've LOLed on here for ages.

Coincidently, my club are touring down there in a couple of weeks time, we are staying in Bournemouth but a couple of the fixtures are Southampton way. Anybody got the heads up on any of these clubs - grounds, pitches, playing standards, teas, beers????? Hythe and Dibden CC Sarisbury Athletic CC We also play Dorset side Sixpenny Handley. -
Interesting snippet at the weekend, friend of ours is a well known TV footie person (you would know the name) and he was at Poch's pc last week. He said his English hasn't really improved since last year, he said it did improve slightly over the season from when he started but where he has been away in the summer for a few weeks he lapses into his own tongue at home and hasn't been using English in the way he would 'at work' ie around the players. Said Capello was exactly the same - he could use enough English to get by on the training ground, but was never committed enough to learn the language to communicate confidently with the press. He doesn't expect Poch to be using English in the media any time soon. Also says the hype around the club is real, we do have the money, we do have the ambition; he expects us to do very well this season and be in a position to sustain it.
