Thanks for posting this link a good read, some interesting views I still remain excited by the signing of Ramirez
-
I know that saints are going for a youthful recruitment policy but I honestly don't think this is the kind of deal that could be turned down if there was a real chance of it happening. This guy has been there and pretty much done everything, the amount that are current crop of players like lallana, Ramirez, jrod ET all could learn from him is incredible. The signing of Ramirez would have made a lot of people on the continent notice us a little more, the signing of del piero would only enhance this and help us attract players to take us to the next level. All in my opinion of course.

A fairly good sum up S-Clarke. I think the plan GK wise was always to get a number two to replace Bart and give Davis another crack in the prem if only for his loyalty, I think we'll give him until January and if not performing bring in a replacement. In an ideal world I would have preferred another CB and possibly LB, but overall I can't complain with circa £30m spent
-
If butland is already valued at £18m by Birmingham then Flowers must be worth £25m
-
AM - Ramirez AM - Phillips CB - Mancienne CB - Miquel (on loan from arsenal) I think we'll give Davis until January transfer window

I don't care how old del piero is I'd love it, one of my favourite all time players, def get that on the back of my shirt -
Jeez, we have some real doom and gloom merchants on here don't we!!! Just over 3 years ago we were in Pompey's position in administration having just been relegated with a **** team relying on kids who just weren't good enough, we were sitting bottom of league one with a points deduction........fast forward 3 years...........We're back in the Premier League, the best league in the world and all we can do is moan that we haven't made a "marquee signing" and we haven't filled all our weak positions. Did people really expect us to be pushing for europe??? I for one will be happy if we finish in 17th and really build year 2. The window hasn't closed yet, if the window closes and we don't have a CB or RM/RW then its time to panic not yet. Yes we might not have them in place for Man City but the season has 38 games not 1, chill people, be happy that we are just about to embark on our premier league journey against the champions of England.

I think by the time we have a couple more faces in it won't be far off £20m we've spent circa £12m already £6/7m on Jay Rod, £2.5m on Clyne, £2.5m on Gazzaniga and upto £500k on Davis, add to that a CB or 2 and poss a wide player we won't be far off £20m if not over. Maybe we'll hold funds back for January when we'll have a better idea of who is prem class and who is not, still wouldn't be surprised to see a loan or 2 either. -

I think you could right on both fronts, Cardiff are looking good for promotion candidates and looking at the bluenoses players I think it's obvious we're in for Butland as I said on a thread earlier lot of blues fans up here think he's on his way to us. Redmond I think fits the kind of mould we're looking for young, British & potentially great future ahead of him, he's highly rated up here. I also like Davies but think he may go to norwich with Hughton. I would be happy with any of these 3 or a combination of he 3 or all 3 -
Living up here just south of brum in Redditch and my blues supporting mates all think he's on his way to us rather than a bigger club, expect it to be done after Euro's but before Olympics

I was on holiday last week and on Monday I went to the bar to watch the England v France game wearing my saints shirt. At half time a guy came over and started talking to me turns out he claims to be a burnley season ticket holder and friend of the Rodriguez family. He said "you've got yourself a good'un there lad Jay Rod is pure class" he went on to describe his attributes saying that great first touch, intelligent football brain, quick turn of pace without being "johnno quick" confident said to get 20 goals for them last year with their lack of creativity was a great feat. He reckons that the deal was around £5m upfront £500k on 1st england cap, further £500k after 10 caps and £500k if we retain prem status next season. Interestingly he said that the burnley fans are **** scared that we would be going back in for Trippier who he rates as their best player by a mile and as much potential as Jay Rod. On Cork, Chaplow and Fox he thinks Fox will get caught out defensively in the prem and Cork to be a bit part player as not good enough for the prem. He was gutted they didn't get Chappers as he said we are silly to play him on the right as he is an out and out cm and he was hoping football week in week out would have convinced him to go back to burnley.

One thing that occurred to me yesterday, my partner asked me if I wanted new Saints shirt for fathers day (In less than 2 weeks) she was unaware that they weren't on sale yet....let alone not even unveiled. It got me thinking that I really do think saints have missed a bit of a trick not getting them on sale before fathers day as I would be I'm not the only father who may have got one

I still don't get this 'why we playing another prem team mentality' often other prem teams play each other, last year for example Chelsea, Villa & Blackburn all played in the Asia cup. What's going to prepare us better for the prem playing the team that finished 3rd in the prem or playing Yeovil away??? Plus if Arsenal are playing it will be easier to attract a bigger European club like Ajax

Team you most want to beat next year...

A couple of Villa season tickets holders told me this morning that Heskey, Guzan & Cuellar had been released and the first thing I thought was Guzan wouldnt be the worst signing. A good keeper who has been unlucky that he's had Friedel & Given ahead of him who have been superb. -

Please god know. I work up here with a bunch of villa season tickets holders and I've watched them quite abit and most of the fans do nothing but complain about him, the last goal he scored was November last year and with Bent's injury he has been playing upfront. Unless he is facing and running at the goal he is useless, hasn't got a footballing brain just pace. Tadanari Lee will be better than Gabby -
Why would it be so strange to play a fellow premier league (love saying that) club in pre-season? last year Chelsea, Blackburn & Aston Villa all played in the Asia Cup. Surely we'd be better playing the likes of Arsenal to prepare for the Prem rather than Yeovil away!!! If Arsenal are confirmed then it makes it easier to attract a fellow big European side, probably why it was part of the deal
