  1. Just because he scores a couple in a friendly is no reason to lionize the guy.
  2. We should keep tracking him, you mean.
  3. Full time in Biel. FC Biel 3-3 Saints.
  4. He's a good poacher, a good sharpshooter, etc., etc.
  5. "81 mins. FC Biel 3-2 Saints. Safari slots in at the back post as the ball is loose in the box". "3-3. Chamberlain smashes in Saints third from the edge of the area to level the scores"
  6. "2nd half is noticeably quieter than the 1st with Saints being overrun in midfield on occasions. Forecast has made several saves".
  7. Stuart Gray has been named Pompey's new first-team coach. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14120661.stm
  8. But he is saying we'll make the playoffs!
  9. Reminiscent of Oliver Twist.
  10. Sad to hear that. I loved The Watersons close-harmony, a cappella style.
  11. Unlikely to be murder, but then again not necessarily self-defence. It depends on the facts of the particular situation. Regardless, I have no sympathy whatsoever for the burglar who was killed. The fact that there were four men involved in the break-in puts the home-owner under even more stress and panic. You'd have to hear the details of what happened to make a final judgment.
  12. Yes, a classic oxymoron!
  13. FIFA's statement: "As a consequence of Mr Warner's resignation, all ethics committee procedures against him have been closed and the presumption of innocence is maintained." What they really meant: "We are as relieved as f*ck that Mr. Warner has agreed to fall on his sword. We all presumed he was guilty as hell, but now we won't have to dig into all that sh*t and risk having him squeal about all the other corrupt practices going on around here. Pheewww! Thanks Jack!"
  14. I used to watch him play for England during the 60s. Boring. Incredibly defensive. Here's the essence of his style described on Wikipedia: "Boycott maintained an 'impeccable' defensive technique, and possessed a temperament ideally suited for five-day Test matches ... eschewing any shot that might even hint at threatening the loss of his wicket."
  15. In my newspaper the Associated Press wire service describes her behaviour as "erratic" - she was "unable to remember the lyrics to her songs ... she dropped the microphone, mumbled through her songs and occasionally disappeared." I suppose they couldn't quite bring themselves to note the obvious - that she was completely hammered.
  16. Camping in August. Five days at Killbear Provincial Park (near Parry Sound), and five days at Sandbanks Provincial Park (near Belleville) - both in Ontario. We've been camping with the kids (now teenagers) every summer since they were infants.
  17. photography music (listening, playing, collecting) reading writing birding English ale
  18. Yes, the four of you do make a good complement. I think the word you were looking for was "compliment".
  19. The Worst Journey in the World by Apsley Cherry-Garrard. Scott's Last Expedition (in two volumes). The first volume is based on the journals of Scott. I have these two in my own library, inherited from my father.
  20. Well, we're asked for our favourite, not the best. [Marian Pahars.]
  21. So you moderate your posts to the so-called mundane level of the so-called Liberal Elite? Shropshire Blue, btw!
  22. Fare enough - at this stage.
  23. Yes. It's called simply Jazz. I enjoyed it immensely, but it got savaged by some jazz critics, who thought it too conservative in its approach. They objected to the excessive reliance on the views of Wynton Marsalis and the lack of attention to many modern sub-genres of jazz. And the last fifty years of jazz history was glossed over in the very last episode of the ten-part series.
  24. You mean Jack Nicholson.
