How? Scored in one game, was awful in the one he scored in for 2/3 of the match, didn't play in one and drew a blank, including missing a sitter in the other two. Just can't see how that is "fairly reliable".
-
Of the nominations it probably has to be Mane, but no-one really stands out. Trouble is everyone has been so inconsistent during September. Everyone was awful for most of the match against Man U, though Pelle did play well for first part and last 10 minutes (after he had asked to be subbed). Pelle was very average on Saturday and missed an absolute sitter after being set up by Juanmi for one of the simplest chances he will ever get. Virgil was terrible against Man U, but good on Saturday. Norwich was in August so doesn't count (September games are WBA, Man U, MK Dons and Swansea). Tadic went missing for most of the Man U game. Mane has not been at his best, but at least scored against Swansea plus 2 against MK Dons, so think he is probably the most deserving.

Goes with the one we used to have of Jonathan Forte.

It will soon be like the Terracotta Army outside the stadium with all the proposed statues. But I would add Big Ron to the list, probably more worthy than any of the others mentioned (who are all still alive anyway, don't agree with statues of living people)

JWP and Steven Davis don't get many opportunities to replicate this in the U21s.

Steven Davis: 'Southampton squad best since I joined'
VectisSaint replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
Best squad for sure. Might not be best starting XI quite yet. Only problem is goalkeeper, but then the position has been poorly covered for years, its no worse now, you could argue with a decent loanee and an injured England international that is stronger than before, but in truth with FF out long term, we are in the **** if The Stek gets injured. -
"Its" It is not a possessive pronoun.

What a load of tosh, you really are a muppet. Accusing others of not watching the game when it is quite clear it was you who either didn't watch it or didn't appreciate what was happening. I am quite a critic of JWP but he actually played very well on Saturday (at least for 60-odd minutes) doing all of the things you say he didn't do, good passes, a great corner, harrying, tackling (yes I found it hard to believe) and showing a lot of desire and energy, he does seem to have found a yard of pace that was previously missing. Played together well with Davis again, who was one of the best players on the park, with lots of energy, pin-point passes (and some that were a hair's breadth away from being so). It was so noticeable that soon after he was subbed off when we were 3-0 up that the energy levels dropped and we resorted to the same awful play that we exhibited for 50 minutes against Man U (strangely coinciding with the time before Davis was subbed on). OK, so he cannot score for toffee at the moment, just like JWP, but we have plenty of others who can, and who do largely due to the work that these two are putting in. JWP has improved immeasurably since playing a deeper role, as he did with Romeu when Vic threw his toys out of his pram. Criticism where its due, but try not slagging people off who actually take notice of what has happened in a game instead of spewing rubbish based on your preconceived misconceptions.

Sent off more times than Vic.

Very funny. Played more than half of the match yesterday avoiding making tackles because he stepped over the line too often early on and got booked. Romeu should grow his hair a bit so that he does not look like a thug, he gets booked before he hardly makes a tackle, most of his bookings (though not the one yesterday) have so far not been warranted - he is a marked man already though which is a concern.

That's the trouble with making an assessment based purely on the score. It was a debacle for 50 minutes (we were great for 35 minutes at the start), one of the most shockingly awful displays by Saints I have seen in nearly 50 years. Man U were awful and we let them score 3 goals from 3 on-target shots.

Looked fine in the training gallery. Thought he was left out of Wednesday squad due to some "off the pitch" incident, know nothing about it but it was mentioned somewhere on here. As long as Koeman doesn't have a brain fart again and play Yoshida instead of Cedric, then can't seem Caulker being needed for Saturday anyway.
-
One of those assisty things by Davis.
-
Subs: K. Davis (GK), Yoshida, Tadić, Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, Bertrand, Ramírez.

Sue, we were worse than absolutely abysmal for about 50 minutes. The fact we gifted them one only goes to emphasise the fact. ManU were also absolutely abysmal and they showed nothing to the contrary, their 45 pass goal (or whatever it was) was only due to the fact that our players had completely switched off, and despite this it took Man U 45 passes to get the goal. As I feared with our last 5-10 minutes, it has allowed us to gloss over what was a truly appalling performance. Don't get me wrong we were very good until we took the lead, that is what makes it so galling that we could then descend to the level we did.
-
Reported that we got nearly all back actually.

He seemed very nervous, and lacking in confidence. Looked very slow, and the cramp would suggest his fitness is not all that it could be, last player we had the suffered cramp regularly was Luke Shaw. Was surprised how often Fonte was having to cover for him especially in the first half. I'm sure he will be OK but needs more time, though I don't for one minute think it was because Man U were a step up on SPL, they should have been one of his easiest games of the season they were so bad.
-
He doesn't. He also generally only has issues when he is played out of position, especially at RB (rather than LB). In any case, if you think Yoshida's howler on Sunday cost us the game then you are very much mistaken, it just compounded what was an appalling performance by the whole team including Ronald.

...a not very good Reading side who were top of the league before the game...
