The world cup is not a league.

USA have definitely added to the tournament. Slipped up a lot in the early parts of the games, but have shown a lot of spirit and commitment when the chips were down.

Would you rather go out to the Germans or the Argentinians ?
Ohio Saint replied to alpine_saint's topic in General Sports
What kind of thread is this that is trying to make me say i want to get beat by the ******* Germans!? .......But yeah, if someone is gonna tan our hide, I'd rather it be those snidey gits that the other, snidier gits. -
A few days late and several dollars short, but i really REALLY like it!

In all the time this has been going on, I have very rarely noticed the media here in the US pointing out that BP are British, or any real negativity toward the country. (Apart from the odd comedy show) Most Americans see this as a big oil company issue, and not a foreign company issue. The only thing that makes it obvious that they are a British company is when that CEO Hayward opens his big fat stupid mouth, then everyone is ****ed off with that British tosser. That's all really.

I've started match prep. On my second pint now.

I don't think it is an indication of ignorance that some people have issues with this topic, more an issue with personal preference. I don't think that anyone who appears opposed to this charity is necessarily against it. They are merely prioritising their own choices as if they were the ones asked to donate. Most of us have funds limited much more than those of SFC, so we look at the question from our own perspectives from our own limited resources. We tend to think along the lines of....Hmmm, I have just one shirt to give away. Should I give it to cancer kid, or son of mugger kid. Most likely, none of us have the resources that SFC does, and we don't even KNOW the resources of SFC regarding charitable contributions. This is why we prioritise from our own perspectives.
-
But that was an earlier point also. This was just an email. We all have a folder full of junk mail wanting something from us. A personal letter would have most likely been received much better.

You know what he does with his spare time when he is away from his keyboard?
-
It is also easy to imagine some kid sitting at home thinking, "Hey, my dad mugged some idiot and I got a signed Saints shirt!" Crime pays me!
-
In that regard, Saints could donate 10,000 tickets to Pompey and re-rehabilitate half of Portsmouth!
-
I just LOVE these old player threads! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy in a totally hetero kinda way.
-
As I said before. These kids could be seen as benefiting from the criminal actions of their parents. Not a good example, necessarily. I have no dog in this fight, but I can understand why some companies might want to stay away from it.
-
But you must also understand that some people could think that these children are being rewarded for their parent's criminal behaviour. It's a tricky one, for sure.
-
Yup! A handwritten letter would be much better. Then a phone call asking if the letter had been received etc. That would give a possible opening to arrange a meeting with the relevant person.
-
With all due respect, the nature of the charity is not beside the point. Saints are a business with a very good history of charitable deeds. They have bent over backwards in all manner of good causes. If they choose not to support this one, then it is up to them, and there should be no cause to feel disappointed in them.

And an AWAY shirt too!....Just sayin' It was probably hot.
-
Yup. email is not really the way to go. It lacks commitment IMO.
-
um...........
-
Awwww, poor poopey.
-
But it DOES!! A genuine LOL once again. It never fails! I actually make a point of not doing anything superstitious. Any time I have tried it, it always failed. Rubbing a saints key ring, wearing red and white, taking a lucky dump.....All total failures. PS I don't think doing weather reports in the match day thread really counts, does it?
-
It's definitely a true story. I read it on the internet about 15 seconds ago.

Good bit of foresight on your part. When that question does get asked, I will respond with "Well, if I were in a mosque, and someone shouted God is definitely not great, who do you suppose everyone will be looking at?"
-
Bjork and Cyndi Lauper. (Cyndi ON Bjork would have been something!) Jenny Aguter too, but that was probably only because she took her kit off in just about every movie she was in.
-
I would agree. he seems to have the support of the players.
