Maybe I misunderstood the OP, however I did think this thread was about thoughts on the CURRENT situation in Israel/Palestine. Which is but the latest development in a horrid bitter war between two religious factions in area where both 'should' be living peaceably. It's a complete red herring to start talking about 'rights' to land and harking back to the Romans and European émigrés and such like in regard to Israel itself. As of today, Israel is a completely legitimate state. To say otherwise displays a lack of historical, geographical and political knowledge (no shame in that of course, why should we all know the complex history of the middle east?). However, like any state that starts invading its neighbours, Israel needs to be brought in line by the 'international community'. The problem with that goes way beyond a supposed Zionist conspiracy or some shared ideology with 'the west' and hinges more on the nuclear issue with Iran - something the 'international community' cares more about than dead children and bombed hospitals. Israel is currently run by an extremist government intent on subjugation and oppression, one that is happy to use excessive force with little, none or fabricated cause. Unfortunately, this is a familiar story all around the world. So, to answer the original post, my thoughts are; yes, a BJ here or there would certainly help chill everyone the F*&% out, but it won't stop the hatred and violence in the long run. Finally, my personal opinion is that the only real solution will arrive when people stop believing in some fictional beardy bloke in the sky and arguing who's best (Jesus, Moses, Mohammed or Mammon). And then the whole world will be better off.

Great post Halo, thank you; despite its seeming girth it is actually an incredibly succinct appraisal of the situation and one that I would recommend anyone re-read a couple of times. Let's hope the attitude, and, ahem, distaste (for wont of a better word) shown upon this thread (on a footy forum ffs) is echoed enough throughout society that our government does hear the voice of the people. Doubtful I know, but it does seem the general public are much less inclined to believe the propaganda trotted out than they used to be.

Trying desperately hard not to make a 'Gazza standing alone' quip after the goal conceded today. Putting poorly constructed poor taste puns aside, I should point out that not all Jews are murdering, fascist state supporting scumbags, in much the same way that not all Muslims are suicide bombers. This current 'escalation' had been penciled in for at least a year and is utterly designed to warn neighbouring states that Israel means business with regard to flexing its military muscle. (I was reading about the Pentagon discussing the dates with the IDF in British national newspapers, no secrecy and I am sure that information is still online somewhere). Bizarrely it was envisaged as a calculated attempt to stop a larger conflict. All part of Israel's continued building up varied 'weaponry' to subjugate its neighbours (incl nuclear arsenal, covert operations, and advanced electronic warfare etc). Clearly that was a stupid idea and is not going to work. Israel is a paranoid, fascist state that relies on a perceived and perpetuated idea that they are somehow still being 'suppressed' by a (admittedly genuine and very real) historical wrong (the Holocaust). Perversely, very similar to the 'Gleichschaltung' that the Nazis used to coordinate the Third Reich, referencing the War Guilt Clause of the Treaty of Versailles etc, and bring about the second world war. How's that song go? Where have all the flowers gone? ; 'When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn?' And the other one; 'War, what is it good for? Absolutely Nothing.' Jon Ronson's The Psychopath Test. Should be compulsory reading for anyone who posts on internet forums.

Currently gutted we threw away another two points. I feel. Angry. However, I cannot blame the manager at all. Continue to play like that (with that starting 11) and learn to close out the game and we will pick up a few more points 'til Jan. Then we need one or two or three or four brilliant defenders. No pont in panicking, as someone else said, no manager can improve the back four until Jan, so no point in changing. Let's learn what we can and keep pushing on.

Found a good stream, then confused why we were back in Red n White stripes. Realised it was the bloody Stoke game. I wish I wasn't tied to my desk, but there you go. Will try again. COYS

Both Shaw and JWP are ready to step up. I expect them both to feature in today's win!

I find it odd that people think SFC is Cortese's 'toy'. That really is a misreading of the man and his desire and ambition. NC has stated SFC is his 'child' and he sincerely wants the project to succeed - it will (he hopes) be his legacy, and his calling card for future, personal, success. Both NC and Markus shared a vision to make a change, not only to SFC but also to the EPL and beyond. That vision is based on a no compromise reading of the new financial rules, the EPPP and the status of SFC as a potentially massive club- all within a five year plan. This kind of foresight and planning is pretty unusual in the modern game. NC correctly identified Nigel as the right man for the job. They also correctly identified the deadwood at the club and have sought to address that as quickly as possible. The only negatives, aside from the results and a couple of strange substitutions in key games, are that SFC did not bring in the defenders and GK we badly needed in the summer. Oh and that we are a year advanced of 'the plan' which may, perversely, put us a year behind in the long run.

Alfred Escher. There. That was worth the wait, wasn't it? No posts for two years and then a cryptic mention of a figure from European history, 'nice one Polaroid, that's cleared everything up', you are all saying, 'and welcome back'.

You got it DellDays! Although I may have gone a little overboard on the James Brown quotes.

I find Cortese charming, alluring and very very bright (which is a massive turn on for me). If he and I were both single, and if I were female, I would marry Cortese, or at the very least offer my body to him to do with what he will. I mean, get on up, feel like being a sex machine. I appreciate he is a tough cookie, and some may find him a little intimidating, but this is football and it is a man's man's man's world after all. Please please please, stop the negativity, We got Markus and it feels good! BTW, as the home shirts have sold out I am gonna have to get an away shirt instead - Say it loud, its black and I'm proud! Does this help with the rumours at all?
-
Erm, I clearly stated I want one and always get one in September. For a club with 45,000 active supporters (JPT final) and tens of thousands more, surely a regular supply - rather than a job lot of 10-13k would be more sensible. I am whinging because I really really really want this shirt and was PREPARED TO WAIT till September so that my family wouldn't be upset that they couldn't get me my traditional birthday present. oh, I should add, FFS.
-
******. I always get the home shirt for my birthday in september. hopefully they'll make more...?!?

Aha, Google won't let me see the calendar on my android device, so I uploaded the CSV to a new calendar of mine own and all is good. Will have to check back for changes etc, but that's no problem. Both online, personal one on phone! Polaroid x

That works very nicely, thank you! Will see if my phone is smart enough to see it too!

I will be delighted with whatever the club produce, I am not fussy but I am eager and obsessive when it comes to football shirts. As a shameless plug for my youtube song, can I just mention that I change football shirts no less than 35 times!? See if you can spot all the saints ones amongst them! (note: there is no actual 'changing' in the video, so thankfully no naked flesh)

So I made a song about it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIsKJRNlVnI I made the video as a 'reaction' to the hundreds of (often not all that good) football songs that now appear before every major football tournement. In truth I wrote the words ages ago and they detail a lot of what I don't like about the modern game. It's a bit like a rant on here but with some poor guitar playing in the background really. It's just a bit of fun, but I do hope you like it and forward it on to your friends! ;-)

If you get a puppy, then you are gonna need to take holiday (a lot of holiday) to train it. And although the same could be true of any rescue dog, you could look around and find an elder dog that is already house trained and needs a home. They are loads out there on the web. People will rightly tell you about breed characteristics and this is especially important when it come to health, but when it come to behaviour it is all down to training! SO, you COULD get a Jack Russel that is actually chilled out or a really selfish lab etc etc etc. ten hours IS a long time for any dog, so entertainment, access to the garden, at the very least a visitor during the day will be paramount. Probably your best bet if the dog is gonna be left alone for long periods of time is to go for an ex-racing grey hound. Thousands come to the end of their 'useful' life every year and go into rescue. They are loving, loyal (after all, you'll be the first human to show it attention) a little bit daft (like a dog should be) and they sleep all the bloody time!

Anyone have any spare tickets for Wembley?
Polaroid Saint replied to red&white56's topic in The Saints
I like the idea that buying a ticket and then not attending that game (i.e failing to support the team), just to secure purchasing rights to another game somehow makes you a better fan. buying up tickets to games you cannot attend just seams wrong to me, and not unremoved from the FAs own daft allocation system. still, nevermind eh? I have been to 9 home games and three away this season. not bad considering I have to play footy myself on saturdays. I have been on the database since before the world wide web was invented, yet I was still too late to get a ticket - the allocation sold out before general sale remember, tough on me, but I don't need to read comments from smug scummers. Supporting the team means supporting each other. -
No one worried at the level of spending..?
Polaroid Saint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
It's also worth remembering that technology (coupled with a massive social shift in private spending) opened the door for BSkyB and the Premier League back in the early nineties. Football and Satellite TV were fine bedfellows for each other and remained so for many years. The money kept on rolling. It is only now that technology will play it's hand again. Technology will force Sky into a more open market where - thanks in part to the massive popularity of the English game world wide - other providers will compete. Whilst there is a strong chance that in a upward economy this could generate more money for the clubs through competitive bidding, I believe it will actually result in a reduced spend overall in favour of better rights/security in an uncertain fiscal future. Skyplayer is already showing how Sky will offer coverage, whilst anyone a little bit internet-savvy (with a good fast connection) can find any and every premiership game streamed live online somewhere. HD obviously keeps us glued to our TVs for now, but even HD will be obtainable online very shortly. 3D is - currently - a bit of an embarrassment (all the tech company CEOs wetting themselves over what is a very dull technology, whilst RnD departments in all the major nervously fiddle about with silly specs). -
No one worried at the level of spending..?
Polaroid Saint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
I believe this to be the case. The spending is consistent with everything that has been said and done so far. ML has agreed with NC to craft a decent football side, with a sensible, sustainable structure supported by a large and eager fan base. That is the five year plan. NOT some dream Prem ticket and Sky Cash; I very much doubt there will be anywhere near the windfall there is at the moment. The bottom is falling out of the Prem football at the moment and it's gonna take it lot to stop it crashing - let alone sustain it as it is for five years. Saints will thus soon be ideally placed (thanks to fans base/structure/facilities) to lead the bright new dawn of British football. The (ahem) 'superclubs' will enter some mad-arsed europaleague and those clubs without debt, and with good fan bases, will rise up and compete. Those feigning their status and over spending (at whatever level) will sadly have to sink and regroup as other clubs have had to do. -
oldknow was a sh!t-stirrer, cortese is a sh!t-kicker... ...the former is negative and reactionary, the later is progressive and proactive.
