Despite what others would have you think the worst player i've ever seen wear the shirt wasn't Ali Dia (let's be honest he doesn't count) but Lee Todd. Signed at the same time as Paul Jones i think Lee Todd had all the attributes of a player in the bottom divisions on a downward trajectory. A full back that made Clasie look like a giant, but coupled with the positional sense of an oil tanker and an ability to read the game second only to Stevie Wonder. I remember seeing him in one particular game, away from home at Arsenal, having to "mark" Henry. He was absolutely torn to shreds and by the beginning of the second half it actually looked like Henry was taking pity on him because he realised just how sh*t he was.

What about a senior player walking into board meetings then? Or the same senior player playing up and acting like a bit of a knob around the club? And the fact his actions have led to another player not wanting to play in the same side as him anymore? I'm sure none of that is true either is it?

Given what i've heard about Fonte's attitude to the club at the moment (pretty much directly from the horses mouth) i'd assume he's most likely to be involved in this. I'd be surprised by Bertrand to be honest, apparently him and Steven Davis are two of the more sensible, level headed players in the squad (although i heard the same about Hojbjerg and he didn't react well the other day). Have heard rumblings about VVD being a bit "jonny big boll*cks", but would be surprised if it was him too. Anyway if there's truth in this then it's an open and shut case and Puel has to go, and that's from someone that supports him and thinks he should be given more time.

Tommy "widow" Widdrington, for no other reason than he was sh*t and scored a goal off his ar*e. Not sure if he counts as sh*t but OOOOH Terry Hurlock was a favourite of mine, mainly for disguising GBH as a tackle (and being an absolute maniac in general).

Pretty much spot on there i reckon, though the only thing i'd change/add is that it's not just the sport/club it's the city. We support Saints because we're from there, and the pride the team gives us in our city is what makes it special.

Cardiff bristol is pretty bad isn't it? At least that's what the city lads I know say. Maybe not a Derby as such but definitely a nasty edge to it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Heard stories of that from my older brother and his mates, chasing them all over the park after the game.

It will never be a Derby because outside the game it means very little to most of us. I was one of those that qualified for tickets but choose not to go, a combination of naused up trains and Xmas to pay for. If it was the skates in any competition I'd have been there with bells on and deal with the consequences later. I do find it odd that one or two saints fans here and on social media are deciding that this is going to mean something when it never has (and I'd hazard a guess most of our fans didn't even know they didn't like us until the league one games). Also find it telling that most of those arguing for it to be something aren't from Southampton itself. If you grow up in the city I think you know that there's no rival other than the skates, and even if the football club didn't exist you'd still hate the city and the inbred scum that live in it. Spot on fella. Personally I think that what the Israeli government is doing is disgraceful but having chatted to many there they're not widely supported. And to target normal fans going to a game, people that might well agree with your cause one to one, is more about making something about you. It strikes me as posing and ego over real action. I'll never understand this "our younger fans won't remember a Pompey game thing" it's hardly like we've played them a lot in general. Growing up in Southampton it's ingrained in the city. I can remember tyro league games that got nasty with Pompey teams. It's ingrained in the city. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Exactly that. To be honest my gut feeling is i can't ever see it becoming a thing for those of that are born and bred in Southampton. It's not even being patronising to say that they don't register, it's just the truth. It doesn't help that they're the other side of the New Forest and in a different county, whereas the battle lines to pompey are built up most of the way. But it's also just not a thing. I feel nothing towards them, never really check their results, before this season couldn't really name many players in their side, nor tell you what their fans were saying, because quite frankly i just don't care. Whereas with the Skates that's all very different. League position and wanting Saints to win every game aside this is very much just another game to me, as i'm sure it is to nearly everyone, personally i think we should just ignore those of them that want some sort of rivalry as it's never going to happen, and isn't of any interest.

I bought mine season ticket seat the day they went on sale to members because it's been a painful few months money wise with all the games we've been playing and xmas coming up. I'd assume most season ticket holders will buy but may be in similar circumstances and waiting on payday to do so. Also season ticket seats aren't as important in cups, in fact i often try out other parts of the ground for cup games as the Northam where i normally sit is often filled with children screaming at a range that only dogs can hear. Really hope the club doesn't allow plastic scousers to buy tickets, that's one thing that absolutely does my head in, should restrict it to purchase history only, maybe even purchase history not including a liverpool game, just to make sure those w*nkers aren't allowed in. Would also be good if we self police, so if you see those plastic pr*cks there make sure they know they're not welcome.

Yeah totally, Besitkas is exactly the kind of European game you want. Would've been hostile as f*ck but probably one of the best atmosphere's you'd ever experience, and Istanbul would be amazing for a p*ss up

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread
ericb replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
If anyone knows that utter f*cking nonce at the front of the northam in the face paint and top hat can they please tell him to sort himself out. He's a f*cking mess and an embarrassment to our club. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Well put monk. Absolutely ****ing livid at that. I've spent thousands doing these games and that gutless ****ing **** is what we get as a result! So ****ing livid right now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In the past i'd probably have supported this anti Israeli people but i have to add that having been out there and actually spoken to people there i really hope this doesn't go ahead. Almost all of the Be'er Sheeva fans i spoke to, plus the local population in Tel Aviv (Jews, Arabs, Israeli and Palestinians) just weren't interested in it. Much like the way we were with the Irish in the 80s, the majority just want to get on with their lives in peace and see it as trouble caused by a small amount of fanatics, and just want a peaceful resolution to the whole thing. Have to see these people won't help anyone, maybe they'll stroke their own egos and make themselves feel somehow more important but they'll just needlessly wind up the Israeli fans (who they'll be shocked to know probably include Arabs, because they did in Be'er Sheeva) make our club look like mugs and change the sum total of 0. Whilst i'm totally in support of raising concerns about the behaviour of governments i think this is naive and outdated, and you're targeting totally the wrong people, the "pressure" if you want to put it on, should be placed on the UK companies making the weapons that kill people, not on football fans travelling over to see their club who might not support what their government does anyway.

If they bring 1000 with them i'd expect them to make one hell of a racket, their ground is probably the noisiest ground i've ever been too with all three stands going for it and them absolutely jumping the whole way through. Personally think if we score early we'll win by a couple, but if it's still 0-0 late into the game i'd be worried we'll concede. Surprised so many on here are under rating them too, they looked very solid at theirs and i don't think they'll be easy to break down at all. I'm not confident in this game at all, and think if we do do it it'll be by the skin of our teeth.
-
Looking at that list the main one's i'd want to swerve from an away day perspective are the Russian/Ukrainian clubs (February in those regions are going to be cold!). Would prefer a country we haven't been too before as well, and preferably somewhere "winnable". Lisbon would be a class away day, should get a good wedge of tickets for that too, Mönchengladbach for Germany would be fun too and Fenerbache or Besiktas would be incredible for the atmosphere. Copenhagen is going to be pricey as f*ck so probably prefer to miss them and Lyon i can take or leave.
-
Somewhere i've never been away from home please, quite like the look of Sutton, Cambridge, AFC Wimbledon or Burton Albion as they'd all be new grounds to tick off.

Glen Cockerill Goal Against Luton - 1989 League Cup Quarter Final 1989
ericb replied to Gemmel's topic in The Saints
Nah pretty sure it was right at the end of the game, people were already streaming out the back of the Milton when he hit it. Can still remember the bodies piling back in when it went in. One of those goals that made you go "i'm never leaving a game early". -

That was off the back of a shocking run if memory serves, we hadn't won since Xmas or something stupid like that. Also wasn't it that goal that effectively sent Newcastle down? Seems like an absolute lifetime ago now, have to say though I really miss those days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Jose won't be sold before his contract expires unless a stupid offer comes in. He knows this and isn't happy about the situation and is agitating through his agent in the press.

I do the route from North London to Southampton for every home game, getting the Bakerloo to Oxford Circus, then the Viccy line to Highbury is by far and away the quickest route.
