  1. A more apt question would be "When they were in the 3rd tier in 1999 and someone told you that they would get a mega rich crazy owner who would pay breathtakingly large amounts of money on wages to attract the very biggest names in football and be prepared to write said sums of money off, what would you have said?" We are well backed by Markus' legacy but not to those crazy levels, so no, I don't see us winning the PL any time soon.
  2. My boss said I would be in for a pay rise this season, but he was wrong. De Bruyne would be most welcome though!
  3. Cushion 1 looks to have some very unpalatable stains on it, so for me it's cushion 2. I once made a football rattle out of some left over wood in my dad's garage. I even painted red and white stripes on it. It broke after one use and was left to rot on the terraces of the family centre at the Dell circa 1980 otherwise I would have put a picture up.
  4. Also, can't be bothered to look it up, but how many pens did Rickie get last season? Do you think we will get the same amount of pens this season? Just a thought.
  5. I thought you would know this as well as anyone, considering all the research you do. Ok, how about lack of experience at Prem level (yes he had never played in the Championship before, but this is another leap again), lack of pace, playing against international class defenders rather than championship class, much less service than he is used to, not scoring for a few games and losing confidence in himself?
  6. I love all the optimism on here, it's great compared to what the vibe was like going back a few years ago. However, I don't know why a lot of posters have to jump down the OP's throat and/or be so sarcastic. It is a very good question and one well worth debating. A lot of people quote the relative success of Swansea and Norwich last season as to reasons why they are not worried. There are good reasons to be hopeful because of this, but I'm not sure it gives a massive reason for all this confidence. I think it would be great to have another couple of experienced "old heads" in the squad, especially down the spine of the team and especially when we run out at places like Old Trafford, Etihad, Stamford Bridge and find ourselves up against it from the first minute. Equally so when we are holding on to a narrow 1-0 with time running out against a "fellow relegation candidate" MLG, I love Rickie and am confident he will score goals in any league given the right service, but yes, he and Lallana could very well struggle in the Prem. There are many reasons why they might. All in all, I love the way Adkins is building the squad and the type of player he targets. However, I think a couple more players with proven Prem experience would really set us up to do well this season. Please don't take anything I have said as a negative. I'm very positive about Saints and their future. Just think we should have a debate about this and it would be interesting to hear people's views on which players with said Prem experience might fit well into the team.
  7. That article is truly unbelievable. Absolute drivel. His argument that the FL are at fault is at the level of a schoolchild's excuse for not doing homework - not my fault it's somebody else's. Why don't the blue phew finally grow a pair, claim full responsibility for all that has gone on there and take their medicine? Obviously too much to ask. But that "journalist" should be sacked.
  8. Hollow, hollow, hollow Pompey's victory was very hollow All that money you took from that big russian crook And you'll never sign Richard Chaplow
  9. On searching for Charlie George's unfortunate loss of finger injury, I found this related story which I thought you guys would appreciate: Sunday December 5th 2004. Playing in the Swiss league, Servette midfielder Paulo Diogo scored against Schaffhausen, then jumped into the crowd to celebrate. On the way, he managed to catch his wedding ring on a fence and tore off the top half of his finger. He was booked for excessive celebration.
  10. I loved watching Charlie George when I was a nipper. Could still play a bit as I remember. How much would Charlie George in his prime be worth these days? Also remember things got worse for him than just dodgy knees. Didn't he take his finger off with a lawnmower?
  11. Ahem. Being as you are usually such a pedant, he isn't actually British, he is from Northern Ireland, which is part of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  12. Absolutely fantastic. The blog post was quite good too.
  13. Not sure other clubs would like us to be publishing stories about their players. Would you have liked it if Arsenal were officially communicating to their fans about Walcott or Ox before they had officially signed?
  14. Yes it would really make it too easy for the comedians at the Sun and the Star wouldn't it?
  15. Explains why Jimmy Fivebellies got five bellies then
  16. You don't know when you are having your leg pulled do you? But to address this - are you really placing Southgate in the same class as Messi or Maradona (etc etc)?
  17. Is this some bizarre word association game?
  18. Yes but he was too small at 14. How was anyone to know he would grow to 6 ft tall? Exactly what talent did he show in other areas?
  19. And there you have it. People like you are lost when Google can't tell you what to do or give you your instant answer. It's a bit like when Dr Who used to confound the Daleks and they would end up spinning round and round shouting "Out of control, Out of control"
  20. Bowen carleaves does rhyme with owen hargreaves. Here, let me show you Deppo said we would sign bowen carleaves But we all knew it was owen hargreaves There.
  21. True . But better than ending up in L1 with players on Prem wages that you can't afford to pay and can't get rid of either. Now who would be stupid enough to do that?
  22. As much as I'd like to believe you, the footballing world just doesn't work in the same way it did when we signed Kevin Keegan. Nowadays, big name players cost an extraordinary amount in wages (in which case, beware because you will **** off the other players not getting that amount). Also, if you can't afford the wages that they deem fit, they would rather warm the bench with their arses for years rather than come and play for you (take almost any Man C player for an example).
  23. Don't panic, don't panic! Let me deal with the German agent.
