I do. He also confuses me, I think I must be having a Mandela Effect moment with my memory. I was sure that there used to be a Saints chant that went “2 Johansens, there’s only 2 Johnasens…” as we had another fella called Johansen. Fucked if I can find him though.

I remember I played at a charity golf event shortly after Jones signed, and MLT was there and gave a little speech and Q&A (thankfully then just about football). He was polite about it but said the Paul Jones signing really surprised him as he thought that we already had an extremely capable keeper. Always remember that. Like you say, Jones was OK but Taylor was highly rated. Just the Dave Jones new manager thing, wanted players with him that he know hence P Jones and Lee flipping Todd.

I think he does. Certainly in his book he framed that whole affair as “we got close but in the end couldn’t quite get the deal over the line”. I’ve heard him say similar since then too, not an ounce of contrition that he got utterly duped. MLT has on occasion made some reasonable points/questions regarding covid. The trouble is, they’ve been accompanied by a significant number of assertions and statements that have been very easily refuted and/or proven entirely incorrect, and I don’t think I’ve seen him go back and correct himself. In the end The easiest thing is to just shut out the noise, his rare moments of clarity were surrounded by too much utter nonsense so he has no credibility.

I see that as over estimation. Yes, it’ll be as sure as we can be that it would be a safe points haul. I also think it’ll be a few more than is actually required. Five wins and five defeats gets us 38 points. 5 wins and 2 draws gets us 40 points. In the past 10 years the 18th placed side in the PL had the following number of points: 35, 28, 34, 34, 33, 34, 37, 35, 33, 36. So, in very simplistic terms, get more than the 18th placed side and you stay up. Its not beyond the realms of possibility that we could potentially stay up by getting 3 wins and 4 draws. That would give us 36 points, and would’ve been enough to stay up in at least 8 of the last 10 seasons. 4 wins and 2 draws gives us 37 points, that stayed up at least 9 of 10 times. Personally I don’t see us getting much more than 2 wins and a few draws. But we need to be a bit realistic about just how tight it is down at the bottom of the table. There’s still only 4 points between Saints and Palace, who are 12th (effectively 5 points really due to our risible goal difference), so the notion of getting to 38 points or whatever may be exaggerated. We won’t know until the end of the season of course, but there’s enough of a possibility to stay up. That said, I just don’t think we’re good enough to get to mid thirties of points, but remain hopeful of an upturn nonetheless.

🤣 Miguided Weapon in being as clueless as ever shocker.

Magic grandpa isn’t happy about being given the shove, bless him. Think he’ll likely end up standing at the next election as an independent and will view it as a personal exoneration exercise. I find it a bit remarkable just how many cranks there are that still show unbending loyalty to the mad old goat.

You know what is needed to stop these mass shootings? More guns!! Go ‘murica. Land of the free, baby.

We don’t need 6 wins. 6 wins, even with 4 defeats, gives us 41 points which in all likelihood will keep us up with a number of points to spare. Potentially 4 wins plus 1 or 2 draws is enough to keep us up, depending how the other games roll. Even 3 wins plus a high number of draws could well be enough.

Agree to disagree, it would end up looking like the 2012-13 kit which was crap.

Nope, never realised we had that. I like it.

I’ll give you a Brexit benefit. Since Brexit, I’ve gained Irish citizenship. Irish passport incoming. So I get to enjoy the previous land of EU milk and honey, plus gaining on all the as yet undefined Brexit benefits. And I didn’t even have to vote for it 😎 Tam O’Kraken to play me in the film. -
Not necessarily a terrible thing. I loved Hummel kits from the 80s but I have not really liked much they’ve done since they returned to the fold. I dislike all of the three kits from this season; the home kit only looked good on the rare occasion we wore it with white shorts and black socks (Chelsea away IIRC) thus doing a very decent alternative to the 2010 sash kit.tge wave kit and the green one are bloody awful imo.

Replace “hard” for “rarely” and you’re probably there. -

Don’t be daft, reading Soggy’s posts equates to comedy gold. I His “you are on ignore” mantra is excellent, I’m a big fan of the pious man. Who wouldn’t want to read his rambling nonsense? It’s fucking brilliantly funny, though maybe not in the way intended when written. -
As wiki says….. Athletic Club, commonly known as Athletic Bilbao or just Athletic, is a professional football club based in the city of Bilbao in the Basque Country of Spain. Much like Barcelona’s ground was often referred to as the Nou Camp in the Uk but Camp Nou everywhere else. Probably just Britishisms that became standard for us but were never the actual true name that the club referred to them as. And the Boleyn Ground was always the official name for the stadium located within Upton Park. It is much like a Spaniard referring to our stadium as Estadio de Santa Maria, not incorrect but not the true name.

ABK dislocated shoulder. Bednarek, even after replays I couldn’t quite work out what happened but he obviously got a good whack, in the ribs I think. He tried to play on but looked in a bit of pain.

Did you go again Chaz? Brilliant stuff pal, after proclaiming a month ago that you were in the midst of a three and a half year boycott of Saints you’ve properly turned round. Good on you. Or is someone else using the account again?
-
Yep, 10 from 10 is doable. 13, given the run in, a massive ask. Still, magic an away win against the appy ammers and who knows…. Dammit, why do this shower keep making me believe in them?!
-
3 wins 4 draws is the best chance I think we might have, certainly can’t see us winning 4 games. Bournemouth and Palace games are the obvious ones where we’ve got a chance. But, look what Bournemouth did against Liverpool. Miracles can happen. I’m not expecting it, mind. I see us limping home to about 30 points.
-
Excellent battling back today, it keeps the sliver of survival alive. We’ve got 10 games left so we’re into desperation stakes. We’ve got 23 points. I reckon 36 or 37 points stays up this season; could be less but it’s so tight and current “safety” is 25 points from 27, Leicester and Everton each with a game in hand. Hers our run in. I’ll be honest, I’m struggling to see where 13 or 14 points comes from. West Ham v Saints Saints v Man City Saints v Palace Arsenal v Saints Saints v Bournemouth Newcastle v Saints Forest v Saints Saints v Fulham Brighton v Saints Saints v Liverpool

You don’t half make up some absolutely weird rubbish.

Have I missed the joke? None of those have changed from what they were originally.

I’ve lost faith in everything. I had little faith in these players, I had the tiniest bit of faith that Selles might be able to miracle something out of them. All gone. Elyounoussi still getting a game, millions of pounds worth of signings not able to make the team ahead of Walcott, Adams and Eluseless. Zero shots on target. Fuck off. Just rubbish.
-
I don’t disagree with that. But the club decided to go for Orsic, so another player to “challenge” in that position with Elyounoussi and Edozie. Then they signed Sulemana, another one to challenge. Plus, from what I gather, Tella wasn’t all that keen on coming back anyway. And we had Nathan Jones at the helm then, which would’ve been a massive backwards step for him. Both parties came to the conclusion that a recall wasn’t the best option for him, and they were right. A complete cock up of transfers, but it wasn’t as if we didn’t bring Tella back to shore a gap. The signings we made just aren’t cutting the mustard.
