Why do so many people assume he's absolutely definitely going to develop into the next great thing and so any money we pay for him now is a bargain? Chris Kirkland was supposed to be Englands next bright star. Look how that ended up. Steve Simonnson was supposed to have an amazing future. Look how that ended up. Ben Foster was going to be Man Utds and England's kepper for years to come. Didn't quite get there. Joe Lewis has had a huge fall from grace. Joe Hart is the rarer example of a keeper in his prime in his early 20s. Buttland could be amazing and on the international scene for 15 years. He could equally turn out to be only quite decent enough to play Premier League or Championship for his career, similar to Rob Green and all the others mentioned.

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/9798446.Saints_fans_will_still_see_Saturday_football/ "SAINTS fans could enjoy just as many traditional Saturday afternoon kick-offs in the Premier League as they did in the Championship."

Stop letting facts and rationality get in the way FFS.

There was a thread on here a while ago that listed the number of players signed by each club in the summer. Obviously QPR had loads (11 transfers, 1 loan) but Swansea had 8 transfers plus 1 loan, Norwich also had 8 transfers plus some loans, I can't find a list but I know they had at least Ritchie de Laet on a season long loan.
-
Not really, its actually less than all 3 promoted sides made last summer (including loans).

He completely lost the dressing room as well; the Dutch normally don't need too much of an excuse for squad disharmony but Bert's insistence on playing his son in law and general abrasiveness rubbed all the top players up the wrong way and went a long way to developing the friction amongst the "stars". I wouldn't say he was clueless; when it was going well the Dutch looked great. When up against it they just lost it and played like a bunch of strangers at times.

One of the worst players in the whole tournament. Watching him in one the games I started laughing at him but ended up feeling genuinely sorry for him, he was massively out of his depth playing for an underperforming team who started as one of the favourites to win it and ended up a laughing stock. Still, he's only very young so plenty of time for him to recover and come back stronger. Although I feel he has too much of an air of the Djimi Traores about him for my liking.

Indeed, he's been brilliant. I can only hope we get one of his "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, un be lieeeeeeevable" moments of commentary. Cracks me up every single time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReK1waJFhLI

Agreed, I think Claridge is a really good panellist. I'm quite looking forward to GNev's analysis of us next season. He's properly detailed, thoughful and when necessary criticial of all sides even including Man Utd.

Read it in the paper earlier. Hopefully it'll do something to address the wailing and gnashing of teeth about BBC/Sky's media bias towards Saints. I somehow doubt it though.

Now that's untrue. MLG is a computer generated entity; similar to Rimmer in Red Dwarf or even Data in Star Trek (except wrong much more often).

I'm Brian. And so is my wife.

Well if the **** up over season tickets is anything to go by they'll **** this up as well, so it remains to be seen what actually happens with it.

A goal is a goal. There is no human "decision" to make; it's either a goal or it isn't. The referee still has to blow for the goal and award it, there is no other visible or audio signal, to the players, managers and fans hawkeye will be completely undetectable during the game. And saying it evens out over a season is a ludicrous notion IMO. Its just another way of saying "don't get too upset, we'll probably f*ck up again sooner or later and perhaps this time in your favour". This is a cut and dried area of the game where referees can know instantly and with 100% accuracy whether to give a goal or not. So it takes that responsibility away from them and assistant referees, therefore making their job slightly easier. I'm glad its coming in.

Thanks Nick

I'm 100% sure they are not one and the same; in fact I'd think you'd have to be a bit head mental to actually believe they were.

Turkish = Dune?! :lol:

I hope they're using someone different to whoever set up their online ticketing site.

All I get is the same old site.

Its quite incredible how angry one person can seem to be, all the time, and about the slightest of minor details. Getting through each day must be such a chore, if learning of news that Saints will play Fulham on TV is enough to invoke such vitriol. All 4 announced TV games against sides that finished inside the top 10 last season. Disaster.

I saw the shirt for the first time last night, a bloke in the pub was wearing it. I still think its very meh, but the quality of it seems pretty poor as well. The logo looks as awful as I thought it would, but the pinstripes don't join up properly at the back. The seam is at shoulder level, the pinstripes angle inwards from the top but bear no relationship to the pinstripes on the back. In short, it looks cheaper and more naff than I first thought. But the OS says its on course to set records for level of sales......
