I don’t think it was deliberate from Starmer. I think he tried to rebutt it early on but instead of talking over Sunak he held back, he looked frustrated that he wasn’t being allowed to make his case against it. In the end he had enough of Sunak repeating it about twenty times so just went “fuck it” and said it was nonsense. I don’t see it as some sort of genius 4D chess strategy though, he was just helped by his inclination of not talking over people, which he seemed to push the limits of the more the debate went on.

From what I’ve seen it matters a great deal and most news outlets are carrying the story negatively. Starmer and Labour have called it a lie and that’s how it’s now being projected. It’s playing out very poorly for the Tories. From what I read earlier it’s not even £2000 a year, it’s £2000 across the course of a parliament, so up to 5 years.

If someone votes for, supports or defends someone/policies from the far left on social media, they are no better. You don’t have to be a full on Corbyn to be an enabler for that kind of antisemitic mindset.

Made the mistake of watching the debate for a bit. Moderator absolutely dreadful, worst of the three. Sunak quite obviously talking over everybody cos he’s a chippy little prick and that’s all he’s got. Starmer quite obviously just sticking to sound bites and going no risk. Bloody awful television, certainly won’t be watching any more of it. Sunak probably edged it for the win as far as I got but they both look ridiculous. Starmer looks like a serious person when given the chance to speak but he’s not a great orator.

Starmer is only a short arse himself, not worth it.

Personally I don’t think it’ll make that much of a bump. I can’t see there’s a huge swathe of voters who will think “ah, Nigel is actually standing as an MP, I’m going to vote for them now”. It’ll have a big effect locally in Clacton I’m sure, but nationally I can’t see anything more than 1%-2% if that. Visually Farage was always the party anyway.
