Directly from then! But yeah I'd forgotten Downes
-
Played under Still? Our last two players signed by managers they used to play for were Manning and Bree i believe so I hope this has more success.
-
Getting on my plane just as we go one down. I'll be sending good thoughts.
-
His earpiece never worked anyway... the signal kept Jammin'.
-
You serious? He's played 30 League minutes. On his debut, in a new country. And 60 odd in a cup game playing in a disjointed side. I know Saints fans rule their players out quickly but that must be some kind of record. And he's ill, not dropped.
-
Yep. Though the potential is there for a shape shift to 433/4231 if needed.
-
Not seeing much in the way of attacking potency there but interesting that Sugawara has been dropped for Fraser. Welington keeps his League place instead of Manning which is telling for how Still sees Welington as our number 1 LB even when Manning had a good cameo last week. Centre backs are strong, midfield is strong. At the very least this should be a draw.

I'll be on a plane for the duration of the match back to Blighty, so if anyone could look into the future and tell me what topics the match thread will be filled with, I'd be appreciative. Here's a Nun to get things started.

For me, our strikers are fine. We've hardly seen anything of Downs yet, yes, he missed two sitters but as they say, you have to get into the right positions to miss them, which he did. He's young and raw, he needs time. Stewart had injury issues but if he can stay fit, he's shown he can contribute goals at this level. AA will score goals at this level although I hope from a wider position and Archer was highly rated before he joined us - he's the one with the most question marks over him but he has the potential. I'll give you BBD unless by some miracle he becomes a good player but I suspect we'll be looking to ship him. My issue is with the creation of goals. The AM/winger positions need a lot of work still. 2 weeks left of the window.

Japanese Marian Pahars, if we're being Saints-accurate

Someone getting banned early into the new season.

Unless the fixture is in London and you live in the outskirts, because we have the greatest Public Transport system in the world. 😇 (In no way has Andy Lord threatened my career if I didn't post this.)
-
To be fair, leaving a car window open whilst driving through Toxteth could be just as life ending. As he'll get accustomed to if he moves to Everton.
-
Looking at silver linings. Better to be spanked by Ipswich when we have time to realise what the problems are with the squad than spanked by the first team we meet after the window closes... Skates. Of course, better not to be spanked at all, just looking at silver linings. 😆 FWIW I rate our squad and even if we lose Tyler, Mateus and Taylor I think we still have enough to compete for play offs... autos evrn depending on who we sign.

He probably will go but: A good price for a good player. Which isn't 30 million. SR take these punts on unknown players to maximise profit. It's not always a fan's favourite attitude, hell it's not my favourite attitude, but when it works, it really works. The club will sell him for a fee which more or less matches their valuation which is 50 million+. 40 something + incentives will possibly get it done but WH are low balling. Amorim is a fan... Mateus could yet get better offers than the Bubble lovers.
-
Nothing like supporting your own players. Warranted, but still....
-
One of those fixtures early in the season where, with the window still open, a big defeat wouldn't be a completely bad thing. Of course a win would be sweeter, but that's a silver lining. Better than a spanking on September Although, of course, hopefully Still and SR already know where our weaknesses lie.
-
Lovely. El Khannous next please. And yes they're probably looking at us potentially selling Dibling and MF but I think we're stronger without our key players than they are with theirs.
-
True, but if we keep both and go up because of them, and put better players around them, it may well be a better long term sound investment. THB in particular will be a top flight player for years to come IMO (although probably not top 6 material, he'll knock around mid-table/lower table clubs at least - which we can only hope might be us).
-
Balls to PFR... I'd have been spunking money we didn't have.
-
On the plus side, we never had to try to keep us in the Prem with the worst squad we'd had in years.
-
We have Gordon Banks in goal, Jay Rodriguez at LW and Russell Martin at left back. We cannot lose.

RichV WHUFC Re: The West Ham Summer 2025 transfer thread Quote Post Thu Aug 14, 2025 12:23 pm I'd prefer Fernandes but if Southampton want to muck around… I think El Khannouss is not far behind and looks to be a much better price. This is one where I do think it is well worth proceeding with El Khannouss to see if it jolts Southampton or not… If it doesn't let's get him in and maybe someone else too! Also we should have a word with Moysey, both us and Everton can give Saints the silent treatment and maybe they'll start negotiating Poster on KUMB thinks they should go for El Khannous to force us to accept a bid for Fernandes. Sure, buying one of our rivals best players, and thus significantly weakening them, will force us to sell ours. Unless a relegated club is in financial trouble, which we aren't, having already made £35 million on players sales/loans with a significant cut in the wage bill, then we have every right to ask for a price we want for our best players. The only way that changes is if the player or his agent start getting antsy. The closer we get to the end of the window, the more buying clubs will panic spend. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tyler and Matty go, maybe even Taylor too, but we'll be selling on our terms.
-
I've not heard any grumblings from Mateus about staying, so until he does, which doesn't appear to be in his nature, we have every right to hold out on top dollar for our best player*. *best player apart from Smallbone, if Potter is reading this.

Seriously, if Spurs want to drop the Spursy tag, they really need to stop being Spursy.
