  1. Indeed, cracking signing. Good goalscorer, I'm just surprised nobody's tried signing a Norwich striker sooner, they've got a million of them.
  2. Oh no, it's gone? I'd have paid £300 for a real leather bean bag. Hey ho.
  3. A lot of his career means less than 35 games for Blackburn. I know it was a friendly, but for a player who's been playing centre back (and a bit of right back) for Man Utd, to be chosen over talented, possibly more experienced, midfielders smacks of the big club syndrome. Either that, or we have a distinct lack of English defensive midfielders. Again, IMO.

Biggest load of shyte of the modern television era or very clever and funny black comedy? What's your opinion?
  5. Playing Phil Jones in midfield instead of proper midfielders shows the power being at a big club has on your international chances. IMO. When Saints are one of the big four, Lallana, Shaw, Ward-Prowse and, erm, Jack Stephens will look good plying their trade for England...

A full team of Saints fans. Can it be done? :-)
  7. On the flip side, I only started going to games when we had sunk into League One. Granted, I had mild agoraphobia and the big crowds unnerved me in previous seasons, and I had been top one or two games before away, but I enjoyed my time down in the third tier, and I will enjoy myself now (thankfully agoraphobia free, what was I thinking...) as we are on the up. Glory supporters are with every club, but really, if people really wanted to glory support, they'd be Man Utd fans already. More fans = more money to the club, and that's fine with me. I hope we do get back to the Premiership and restore this club to where it belongs, making it even more appealing for new generations of fans.
  8. There's nothing like "letting the football do the talking" eh?!? TBF some of them say they don't hate Saints, they just hate Adkins. I'm not bothered one way or the other. We had to suffer Bompey in League One, and now Brighton in the nPC. Thank God we'll not have any south coast rivals in the Prem, eh?!?
  9. Some people only want to pay to see something good, I guess. IfI want to watch a Shakespearian actor play Hamlet, I pay good money. If Wayne Rooney was performing as Hamlet, I'd be less inclined to go.
  10. I wasn't paying 100% attention when SSN reported that Appleton was their new manager, I thought they'd appointed Michael Atherton in a cricket-football coup, similar to our Clive Woodward appointment. Smacks of "cheap appointment" to me, although seeing the merits of Nigel Adkins, I think appointing a manager who is a good coach is a wise idea. Will it work? Fruck nose.
  11. I always thought we'd end up moving to a stadium with the name "The New Dell", as The Dell was as synonymous a name to SFC as Ted Bates. Sort of akin to The New Den, ours would be the same, with over time "The New Dell" simply becoming "The Dell". I believe the Stoneham site was touted to be The Stoneham Dell, which I assumed would end up becoming The Dell. I'm surprised it never happened, although St Mary's has as much to do with our history as our former stadium's name. (Record for the most mentions of The Dell in one paragraph?)
  12. I'm not a plastic fan, but I'm not a regular fan. I go to the few games I can get to, around 12 a season or so, but I've only managed one game so far this season. That said, if there's a big game on, and I fancy going, I'll book it off especially. As with tickets? It's just a case of booking as soon as possible. If I could get to most/all of our home games, I'd cut my left nut off to have a season ticket. Sigh, if only. There's nothing wrong with plastification, if people want to be armchair fans, that's fine. They'll eventually spend money that will go to the club, be it through merchandise or SaintsPlayer. And as with the growing crowds back in the Premiership? Good. With so much television coverage up there, there's really very little need to attend a lot of games - and filling stadiums out is more impressive. Even our hardcore support in the bowels of League One was good. We have a support some other teams can only crave. Long may that remain.
  13. If it's a name that fits the ground, and we get a shed load of money for it, then fine. The McAlpine Stadium had a ring to it. The Durex Stadium wouldn't. If we ever do go down that road, then let's hope common sense prevails. The Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium was always going to be a mouthful, and it was always going to be a mouthful. Truth be told, if I were a sponsor, whilst I would want the maximum amount of exposure, I wouldn't want to annoy the fans, who are the very customers I'm looking to advertise to.
  14. He was worth £7.5 million on CM2003, so I always sold him at the start of the game to generate income. (He was always wanted by big clubs too.) To this day, I don't think I ever started the season with him in my team. I remember his performance against Spurs in the cup, that was something special.
  15. Our form without Lallana showed we are not reliant on him. Chaplow has been outstanding for a couple of months now, and Guly is having a great season too, so in terms of creativity, we are blessed. Lambert perhaps fills the category of "if he's out, we'll struggle", because while he doesn't always get the goals, so much play goes through him. We know this and I'm pretty sure Adkins knows this, which is why I wouldn't be suprised to see a striking addition in January. We could cope without him though, we have a big squad and, just as Chaplow admirably filled in for Lallana, I reckon someone would step up in Lambert's absence, should the worst happen. It's a good piece though, and I cannot get enough of reading praise about our team this season. I will never get tired of that!
  16. Fonte covers his hair at night, but one morning he woke up and it wasn't there. Apparently, he's enlisted Rickie Lambert to help him find the net.
  17. Incidentally, does nobody want to loan Dickson, or does Adkins not want to loan him out? Seems a bit harsh on him to not get game time one way or the other. Begrudgingly, as Harding is/was my favourite player, Fox has settled in very quickly, and has made full benefit of Harding's injury. Harding will play a part again, he is a very hard working player (although the nPC is perhaps his highest level talentwise), and a pro. I think it's fair to say that left back (even excluding Dickson) is one of our strongest positions in terms of squad cover.
  18. I hate international breaks. :-( Having just had Sky installed yesterday, I can't even use it for Domestic football for two weeks. Roll on the 19th.
  19. Well if that's all Saints fans have to moan about at the moment, then things are going swimmingly.
  20. The pros outweigh the cons about being in the Premiership - seeing people's answers, it seems that being in the Premiership would be more good for the club and city, and less good for the fan. In the Championship, it's the opposite. I love the Championship, but I don't wish to be selfish - being in the Premiership makes the most sense. We DO have one of the best youth teams in the country, and with the new rules coming in, being in the Premiership would protect our youngsters from being pilfered by "big clubs". (Though granted, opportunities for the youngsters to play would be diminished.) Financially it makes the most sense too. It's a moot point at the moment anyway, we're only a third of the way through the season. Enjoy the country's best league while we're still in it.
  21. Stare at the League table until a little bit of sperm comes out. (This does not apply to a win that happens when we're 24th and keeps us 24th.)
  22. Bottlers! The top of League One looks ruddy tough this year - tougher than last year I would say. Charlton have come from mid-tabledom last year to absolutely fly this year, Sheffield United will be itching to get back up too. Huddersfield perhaps deserve an auto spot, but may once again have to settle for the play-offs, and we all know how they fare in the play offs. It'll be interesting to watch it unfold.
  23. ... for Saints I'm led to believe. Granted, I guess none of us were even born back then, but do any statisticians out there know our results that season? And how many more would we have to win to have the best start to the season of all time?
  24. Smurfette has no tits. Surely:
  25. Hypothetically, if you were Nigel Adkins, would you sign anyone in the January transfer window? Granted we have just under a couple of months for form/injuries to take their toll, but do you think we have any gaps in the squad, or should we wait until the summer before signing anyone? I ask because I (and I'm not the only one) thought until recently that we were in need of a striker. Now, I think a new signing has the potential to cause unrest for what is a very settled team, and our form certainly indicates we aren't in need of anyone. For me, I feel a permanent addition isn't needed until the summer (at least...), but we could boost numbers with a loan. What do you think?
