  1. Damn, glad I came on to the boards to see so many master tacticians about.
  2. Without wanting to start a new thread.....Long or JRod? Who is likely to be the better for us in terms of scoring goals? Neither are doing anything at the moment, but I get a feeling, that despite his lay off, JRod will long term be the better goal scorer. Long as we all know is a pain in the butt for the opposition defence and you can't afford to go to sleep with him buzzing around.
  3. Not sure signing a striker (or recalling one from his loan) is a sign of panic. Austin out for months. JRod & Shlong unable to hit a barn door. Given that, I can't see where you would consider the panic would be, just rational decision making.
  4. http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/hamburg-sv-striker-pierre-michel-lasogga-wanted-by-southampton-4159706?utm_source%3Dmoreover%26utm_medium%3Drss-feed%26utm_campaign%3DFeed-Latest%2BArticles And another link..... Hamburg, 3rd bottom and this is a striker who has played in 11 games (444 minutes) and not yet scored, so another ideal candidate. Squad: 13 (out of 14), Starting eleven: 5, Substituted in: 6, On the bench: 2. Scored 8 last season, 4 the season before but the season before that, he scored 13 in 20 league games.
  5. Did anyone ever watch VVD at Celtic when they were behind and were pushing for goals? PS... I do not think it a moronic idea.
  6. Suarez had a release fee of £40m and how much did he go for?
  7. Simple fact is, you deal with Jorge Mendes and this is likely to happen. Not sure whether Fonte always had him as his agent, but in future, I wouldn't bother signing one of his players, not that we can afford many of them in the first place. Was glad that the club didn't suddenly change their policy and put him in vs HBS (although we might have won if he was playing). Will be interesting to see if he starts tomorrow.
  8. After winning our opening game, surely it would have been best to try and win the next 2 which would have all but guaranteed qualification, and then the last 3 games could have been taken easily. That would have mean including José
  9. I imagine this lot? https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/00053301
  10. Fair enough. However, doesn't the 1992 not guilty court case somewhat complicate things?
  11. At least the bastard is still alive to face justice.
  12. That's a tad harsh. The only thing in this saga that annoys me, is the way that he signed in October 2015 and within a year (more like 9 months), that is no longer good enough.
  13. Well you could turn around and ask why is he after another contract having signed an extension this time last year? https://southamptonfc.com/news/2015-10-16/fonte-signs-new-deal-until-2018
  14. The pay rise isn't what he wants. He wants a contract extension, presumably on top of the pay rise as well.
  15. MLT seems to have been victim to passive paedophilia rather than active. Not a huge difference in my book, save for passive likely doesn't scar the victim as badly. Someone said earlier on on this thread, that the 70s and 80s were a little different, and I think that they were. I went to an all boy's boarding school, and the house master (who was gay) used to come around every night and check that everyone was OK. He used to stroke your leg while you were in bed. Now I found that pretty freaky, but it went on and while we all hated it, it seemed to be accepted and it went no further than that. I have a friend who went to another similar school who was raped by a teacher and ended up in hospital. How that teacher didn't go to prison is a mystery to me. The friend is a bit screwed in the head and an alcoholic. The whole lot of them should be sent to prison (general ward not the nonce ward) and get some big bull ***** to **** them up the **** before showing them a bit of rough justice, which if it ends up with them being killed, so be it.
  16. That's looking at things how you want to - what on earth does that mean apart from the rather obvious thing of me having my own opinion? I view the club in a similar manner as I do the players. Basically you have two types of people. Those who work in the industry and whose livelihood depends on it, and the audience. At the end of the day, I pay for my ticket and go to be entertained. That bit of time on Saturday afternoon (or whenever it is) is a distraction in my life, and that is all. It doesn't affect anything else (apart from planning holidays). If I didn't go to the football, I am sure that a) life would be easier with not having to juggle things around so that I can go to games b) I would find something to do to fill the gap.
  17. I've got to the stage where I am not fazed by the histrionics of the players. I expect the worst, and the worst usually happens. It's life when there is a relentless pursuit of ever more riches. As we are not the highest payers, we will get left behind. It sucks, but so be it.
  18. love what the selected teams are
  19. Liverpool wan'kfest
  20. Question is, did Fleet not check his references or ask Saints about him? No point in pretending that they didn't know who he was and that he would have been with us. Maybe they knew about him and thought that as he was with 18+ that it didn't matter. Similarly, someone at Saints should have had a quiet word with someone at Fleet - maybe they did and Fleet took the 18+ route.
  21. The BBC (national news) had cameras outside SMS this morning, so yes we are. They did flash to a file picture of Fleet. But I take on board that Higgins is centre of attention at the moment. I really do want to avoid portraying any thought that the investigation shouldn't be looking at Southampton, or the "why us", and hope it doesn't come across like that. I realise that it might, but hope it doesn't. It was merely musing as to why what seems to be sadly a rather wide spread system of abuse, that it is so focused by the press. I guess libel does come into it, and when they have a name that they can work with, they focus on it.
  22. Isn't that looking at things through Saints tinted glasses?
  23. Does anyone know what safeguards are in place now? I hope that the kids are spoken to and told that there are a number of people who can be approached and that they know that any threats that they might have faced will not materialise if approaching people for help. It is easy to say times have changed and to some extent they have. But paedos haven't, they are still there and have just changed their way of preying on people as safeguards and checks are introduced
  24. Saints and Chelsea seem to be centre of attention, plus a little bit on Crewe. Why is this? Was this dreadful abuse mainly with us? In some ways I hope it is as that would mean others have not had to endure such a traumatic experience at the hands of these evil and manipulative paedos, but there seem to have been over 350 allegations made. Why are we the main focus of the press?
  25. The problem is, that you would then be holding Katharina Liebherr partly responsible due to her owning the club.
