  1. People say joke, madness etc but weren't there some really serious problems behind the scenes?? I think it the right thing to do.
  2. Reports of £40m compensation.
  3. Torygraph reporting the link in the OP as well http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/12055216/Chelsea-transfer-news-and-rumours-Southampton-forward-Graziano-Pelle-linked-with-Stamford-Bridge-move.html So what's that Juve, Man U and Chelsea want him.
  4. 200/1? Might put a tenner on as either I will be happy to stay up or have £2k in my pocket to ease the pain of relegation. An optimistic pessimist's dream.
  5. Annoyed that we threw away a 2-0 lead at HT.
  6. League seems a bit weirder this season. More so than last. I'm just waiting for Chelsea to start clicking....they will won't they, as at this rate they might get relegated? I don't actually believe that, but......
  7. Give them their due, that was a nice move. When the Tinker Man was appointed, I thought Leicester might be in trouble. Many others did as well. What do we know?? Good on them. If it can't be us that shakes up the top 4, then someone like Leicester would be an ideal club to do it.
  8. Agree, and better than Stek
  9. Gazza seems to be doing better than I thought he would - still a long way to go. The club obviously see something in him, having extended his contract.
  10. Question is, if Long and Mané are up front, who is going to be the creative one?? Davis? Or rather who in the centre is the creative one as I reckon we have Cedric and RyanB as out and out wingers.
  11. Saying WTF is that, oh we are going to lose by 2 or more isn't discussing. It's whinging like a bîtch. Yes it is a strange formation - why not discuss rather than moan about it.
  12. Gazza Yoshida fonte Virgil Cedric Bertrand (as wingers) wanyama Davis Romeu Long Mane
  13. FFS - stop the whinging until the game is under way or finished, then you can bîtch about the selection.
  14. I'm fine with that, save for the youngsters not coming through - but if they aren't good enough, they aren't good enough. What do you actually think we are? Some big Champions League contender? You need to be more realistic/pragmatic and surely you understand that the Premier League is a very poor competition, like all of football really. It is all skewed in favour of a small number of clubs, although in the PL that number is higher than in other leagues. People laugh at the SPL, and when Rangers were there, that it was a 2 horse race, but really the PL is exactly the same, just with a couple more horses in the race. Spain a 2 horse race (with the odd interloper which is going to get rarer and rarer). Germany, Italy and France are the same. So the club tries and operates within it's means. What a shock. The owner doesn't want to bankroll it to the tune of hundreds of millions even if FFP allowed it. She actually seems to be trying to run the company like a company should be. FFP dealt us a poor hand, and we could not entice players to stay by offering them higher wages, even if we/they wanted to. But now all of a sudden, well actually after the Italians started whinging, FFP seems to not be so restrictive but the damage has been done. Anyway, there are those clubs that are play things for rich Arabs/Russians/Chinese/Americans/etc and there are clubs that aren't. We are one of those that isn't. One of the big differences is the world wide appeal and following. We don't have it. We'll likely never have it. If we played in Sydney, do you think that the SCG would fill out with 100k Saints supporters like it did when Liverpool went there?
  15. If we had spent a similar amount to, say, Leicester on incoming players, would you have been happy?
  16. Personally couldn't give a **** whether he was "a better signing for Spurs", as I am only interested in Saints. I am more than happy with Virgil, who is often our best player, and just wish he was allowed to roam forward a bit more.
  17. Bipolar results. 7-2 at Norwich and then 0-2 tonight!
  18. He's got more bite to his game these days. His shooting needs some work on, but he isn't the only one that applies to. I'm not sure quite where he is playing. He seems to come as DM and then be expected to be the creative play maker. Certainly I feel the midfield with him, Wanyama and Davies lacks a bit of creativity.
  19. Which of these would you like?

    Goalies

It's not about last night's game. Really not complicated that is it? I looked into things because of the criticism given on the back of last night's game, and looked at the bigger picture, hence why looking at keepers with over 720 minutes playing time. Look at the stats in the link and they are LEAGUE games. As above.

    Goalies

Accuracy, is easy. It's on target, means it will go in, but of course it doesn't take into account power etc. But it is the same for all keepers and over a season (or in this case less than that) it should by all accounts be broadly similar for all keepers. But I am looking somewhat beyond last night's game, and the figures in the Fox Sports site are purely league games. Given that all keepers face dribblers and limp shots, it still portrays Stek as letting in a far higher percentage of "shots on target" than pretty much everyone else.

    Goalies

There was some mention in the post match thread about MS and how he isn't doing well. That there were 7 shots on goal of which 6 were goals. Others said he wouldn't be able to save all 6 and there wasn't defensive coverage etc. Fair enough, so I thought a little more analysis was needed. http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/stats?competition=1&season=2015&category=GOALKEEPING&team=0&sort=12 This gives all the stats. The rankings are based on clean sheets but not sure that tells the whole story. I look at SOT (shots on target) and GA (goals allowed) and the conversion rate. That changes things a bit if you work out a percentage of goals let in. Just going to look at those who have played for over 720 minutes. Butland - 20.6% Cech - 22.2% de Gea - 22.2% Lloris - 22.7% Gomes - 25.4% Howard - 25.7% Myhill - 29.0% Adrian - 29.3% Hart - 31.0% Pantilimon - 31.7% Begovic - 32.7% Hennessey - 33.3% Fabianski - 33.9% Krul - 34.0% Mignolet - 35.7% Schmeichel - 36.2% Guzan - 37.0% Stekelenburg - 40.5% Ruddy - 41.0% Boruc - 51.5% (Kelvin D is on 28.6%) I can't really recall more than a handful of saves that Stek has made, although the stats say that he has made 22. But that might include something that dribbles towards the goal. Anyway I think he is a weak link and given the terrible goal to shot ratio, why aren't we trying to push our own goalies forward (Gazza)? If he was in the low 20s, then I could see that he was a huge benefit to the team, but in the 40s, it ain't great. I know the analysis is a little over simplistic, and it is testament to the defence that we have "conceded" one of the fewest shots on target. So as I say, I consider him to be a weak link and can't wait until FF comes back. Last season his GA/SOT was 25.9% (again behind a very tight defence).
  23. Not wanting to jump on the bandwagon, but that is what I find a bit strange. Yes, you have a mate who plays football, so it is natural that you follow him and how he does. But a supporter supports a club not a player, and if the player moves on it doesn't or shouldn't mean you give up supporting the team. If you do so, as in this case, it really says a bit about you. Basically you are a poodle riding on the coat tails of the success of a mate. As an aside, bringing family into things questioning who the father is of a baby is somewhat uncalled for.
  24. FFS get off your high horse. I didn't boo him or Lovren, but it's football. Little different from being entertained in the Mayflower with Gwok Wan or whatever he's called, with a panto villain.
