I guess the same can be applied to Mayuka and Mané, as AFCON starts on Jan 17th.

I think that he is only really commenting on the size of squad and that the big boys can rotate or replace as necessary. Whose fault is it that we have a small squad? We all know about the Xmas schedule. As things stand..... GK - no need to change Defence - there is Gardos and Targett, as well as Yoshida who can all do a good enough job. Midfield - I think Davis is back on games, so that will help out. Maybe Reed will need to step up to the plate to go along with Morgan, Vic, SD, Cork. Pick up any injuries/suspensions and we might be struggling. Wing/forward - this to me is our main concern, esp with suspensions looming. We have Tadic, Pelle, Mane and Long fitting into 3 places. Backup seems to be Mayuka, given that JRod and Gallagher aren't available. And that is the real problem right there. Maybe Sinclair or Seager need to be brought in, and some others Rowe, McQueen etc. Are any of the U21 good enough to step up to the plate?

Guess it's either £8m now, or £20m after a year with us. True - but then this season Sterling seemed to have been the saviour before either Brendan and/or Woy screwed him up a bit. I do like the way that we bring through our own players, and supplement them with other English that we have bought in and improved. I suppose that last season was better in that respect than this season, but guess selling 4 English players is always going to have an impact. I think most at Liverpool might wonder what they are up to as well. Having derided Spurs for spunking away the Bale money, they of course have done the same. We have taken a more measured approach, one that Arsenal might have done, and not gone out and spent every single penny and more as soon as it hits the bank account.

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/411732/Liverpool-10m-Norwich-Nathan-Redmond-RESCUE-season They seem to think that they can just buy their way out of trouble, having already spent £120m over the summer.

****....if we win on Monday, we will have twice as many points as Liverpool (and poss Spuds).

He made a generalisation about Jewish people. I suspect he was trying to mean that they were astute business people in some flippant manner. In these situations, I always look at intent. The press and all those outraged seemingly don't, as otherwise I suspect that they would find no malice in his intent. But I wonder who really is offended, and who isn't using this for political capital? There are so many more things in life to worry about than a flippant stereotype. Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will not hurt me - that is what I was taught when I was a nipper, but seemingly that has been consigned to the scrap heap. But it does seem that when it comes to the Jewish question, that we are not allowed to fart for fear of causing offence. This is personified in the way that we have to remember the Holocaust. I am not saying in any way that it should be forgotten or denied, but I wonder why we only concern ourselves with the Jewish genocide. What about the Rwandans, Belgian Congo or even the Armenian Genocide, which only 21 countries even recognise (mainly due to politics and not wanting to upset the Turks). And the other thing I wonder about is who sets the levels for this moral indignation? Who is the arbiter of what we are allowed to say and how we have to feel? Personally, I don't find this offensive in any way, but then I am not Jewish. Until a Jew comes out and explains why (really why) he finds it so offensive, I am afraid that I can't help but think that there is too much politics involved, lest we forget what happened in the 1940s and really, what happened in 1948 and the continued goings on in parts of Transjordan.

I think the press have finally realised how staid the competition has become and how those with the deepest pockets just buy what they want. Much more interesting with non-elite clubs mixing it up at the top. Out of interest, when was the last time you heard fans dissing others for buying success? it just doesn't happen any more in PL.

Is there any point in our "Latest News" page?

Errr, where is the "latest news" page? -
You could be forgiven though, "TalkSport" and "Great Read" would usually be an oxymoron.

Saints prepare new contract for Nathaniel Clyne
angelman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Reports are that Johnson been offered an extension to his contract but with a drop from £110k to £60k -
I'll have to take your word on that, as I have absolutely no idea what Mackenzie or Bench are.

Wanting to maintain some objectivity and not cloud my judgment of Russell Brown (actually I have always had the same thoughts even when he was with us), but the clothes are really chavvy trash at ridiculously high prices. Seriously, his clothing range is embarrassingly shït
-
Maybe Chelsea & Man City might not but in reality they are behind Barca/Real and probably Bayern as well.
-
St (?) Charlie, I wish Saints was a stepping stone club for certain (so called and very morose) supporters.
-
As I said, the club have shown that they know what they are doing, and giving him a 5 year (?) contract shows that they have faith in him. I have faith in the club, so hope to see him develop and flourish.

Sad to see what is important to the modern day young football player. Likes polishing his Merc when the sun shines. I know that it might be unimportant. Conversely I quite like this young man - http://instagram.com/prowsey16 - "Little bit of relaxation today after training with a nice afternoon walk!" It has been said that Prowsey has one of the best attitudes towards the game that you could possibly hope for. Anyway, it does seem from SG's instagram that he has recently had an operation, so best of luck recovering. No you're not. From the games that he played last season, he was way off the grade. However, you have to trust the club. They know what they are doing. They have brought him through, given him a long contract etc, so they obviously think that he has the makings of a PL striker.
-
Love it. You play cr@p, blow smoke up the supporters backsides by saying that they are "The Best Fans in the World" (thought that was a Pompey trade mark?), add a YNWA or two and they think you're Jesus.
-
You mention that those coming from London historically struggle on the south coast, but I was wondering how many players have left us, when fully developed (ie not a teenager learning like Bale, Ox, Walcott) and gone on to better things?

One thing that I have noticed, is that Lallana is doing an awful lot of PR while Tadic isn't doing anything. Lallana taking the Scouse test, the trick shots, dressing up as a computer game character, Lallana this, Lallana that. All over the press. I think much of it comes from Liverpool TV or their press releases, and it appears that they are trying hard to sell him as a successful signing after what has obviously been a large backward step for LFC this season. I think that he probably will come good, as he is a decent player, but LFC seem a little desperate for good news at the moment. But still, I wish he would shave. Looks a fool with that bum fluff.
-
And we might be getting a little low on Home Grown players (over 21) so there is a benefit in taking them both.
-
This always leads me to ask, what really do scouts do? Mané, Pellè, Tadic etc were not secret gems being unearthed out of the blue. Mané was possibly the most exciting talent in a minor league. Tadic was recognised to be the best player in the Dutch league, and Pellè was known to have the 3rd best strike rate in Europe since 2012, after Messi and Ronaldo. South America and African based players are more risky and where scouts really can earn their corn, but European based players aren't a secret. If the fans in the stands know who is causing a stir in their league (and lower leagues in their country) then I am sure that professional scouts know. So basically a lot of (or even all) scouts can identify the same players. It's then up to the team and the processes to see whether they will fit into the club.

Here's the Mail's piece http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2838478/Harry-Kane-Andros-Townsend-demanded-Southampton-Tottenham-want-sign-Jay-Rodriguez-January.html Definite "or" while Mirror has a definite "and". Somewhat of a difference!!! So who is talking ballox? The Mirror, The Mail or both? Certainly if JRod is valued at £20m, then the Mail is way of with their values. As we are an "unwilling" seller, the price will be higher for Spurs than if we were trying to shift him like they are with half their players, so the Mirror might be closer. But I get the feeling that JRod isn't going to be with us and he is now a pawn in this great game of transfer fees
-
CWD, he is an asset and there's little value to be had in not mending him properly, so not sure he owes us anything if it means a large transfer fee.
-
Mail is running this as an either or not both.

I think one thing in life is fairly certain (along with death and taxes) is that my football allegiances will not be moving to Spuds, even if they triple my wages.
