I'd have him all day long over Deeney and McCormack.

Billy Sharp joins Leeds for Undisclosed fee

Came across this saying £1.8m!!! If that is true, then that is damn good work. But of course it might not be. Love the headline.... http://www.footballfancast.com/championship/leeds/leeds-confirm-1-8m-saints-raid -
You are probably right, but time will tell and then with hindsight we can actually make a proper assessment. Pelle is the main striker along with JRod (if he stays). I think that we can all acknowledge that Long is not a natural goal scorer, so maybe his role is somewhat different. I am sure we'll be able to see what's what after 3 or 4 games. Looking at recent signings......apart from Forren, Osvaldo and possibly Ramirez (although again 3 or 4 games will tell us whether he is ever going to step up to the plate), the scouts and those that sign players haven't been too bad. Jos and Yoshida do a job, sometimes not very well, but before Lovren came, they kept us in the league. Mayuka hasn't progressed as hoped, but I can understand why he was signed.

DM, didn't want to start a new thread, and this was the first one I could find re: Luke Shaw. The Ha ha bit just happened to be there.

I know it's a really stupid idea, but how about having more people serving.
-
I have thought about this tactical signing of players but not sure we will do it.

Boruc is in the last year of his contract and is 34 years old. He is a good keeper, and keepers can go on until 40 and a few years beyond, but if I was the club, I would want him to stay as per the contract and then hope that Gazza is good enough to step up with another year's experience under his belt. If AB stays, Gazza must be sent out on loan to get some experience.
-
ART, I have been asking this a number of times about EPL (not BPL) but all I have got so far is that experience is not important. Affordable (wages and transfer), experienced, home grown and is happy to come here = not much of a choice. Me, I am happy with Long even if the fee seems £2-3m too high, but then who knows exactly what the fee is?

TBC is the important bit I think

Injured and out for a month

That has a rank correlation coefficient of 0.782 which shows that there is a fairly good positive correlation to the actual finishing positions.

The club have put up a nice message on the OS as well as a youtube video of his goals. A somewhat different announcement than some for other recent departees. -
You two are boringly pessimistic so I doubt anyone really cares what you think.

Complete balls. He signed and then realised that he didn't really want to be here pretty early on. Can't believe the moronic people who think that Cortese has some mystical hold over the players. If so, I guess I should be honoured to have the only PL chairman ever to be like this.
-
It's OK, hypocondriac says PL experience isn't really that important.

Marlin, you really are not alone in your thoughts about football. I have always said that I love Saints but hate football - at present (and that might change) my love of Saints is greater than my hate of football. Some seemed not to understand what I was saying but I think that this summer's goings on might have cleared any misunderstanding of my thoughts. I look at the press (radio/papers/TV) and the way they are going on and on and on about the start of another wonderful PL season and that it might be the closest and best ever, and all it does is leave me feeling cold and detached. It's not going to be the best when in reality it is a race between 3 maybe 4 teams to win it. It might be the closest as it is going to be more than a 2 horse race. I really don't care about the PL. I go to SMS to be entertained and I am toying with the idea of not renewing next season. The one thing that I am enjoying is Ronald Koeman. As a manager he comes across as a breath of fresh air - or rather a rare breed as I personally think that Steve Bruce is also like that. I look at the big 6 (excluding Everton here) and I have nothing but contempt for them, save for an admiration in how much money they can make. The other thing that I am thinking more about, is how "you bought the title" seems to no longer be bandied about. Blackburn had it chucked at them. Chelsea did as well, when Abramovich first turned up. But now? Never hear it, as supporters are demanding that their clubs spend spend spend. Man Utd, being one of the biggest clubs in the world, are doing this and doing it to extremes. They are likely to end up spending nigh on £150m this window. Liverpool are likely to not be too far behind, although of course they have Suarez to offset that. But will anyone accuse Man U of buying the title? But as you say, the cocooning of players away from the fans is the greatest shame. I am guessing that you are a pre-Premier League supporter as we can remember the good old days. I first went to the Dell in 1976 and going through the 80s and 90s I don't think the competition was particularly any worse than it is today. Am I being a bit deluded though, and my memories are painting a rosier picture than actually was the case? And then Abramovich arrived in 2003, and that was that. I really cannot understand the small measures that the PL are taking to try and keep some semblance of competition in place. Actually that is rather naive, and all they are doing is trying to keep some semblance of competition amongst the big 6 clubs +1, and screw the other 13.

Agree. He would far rather spend £15m on some narcissistic Italian with self-aggrandisement problems.
-
Ok. Just had to ask! But it is interesting how polarising this signing has been. I am more than happy with it. Also, I seem to be the only person who has mentioned HOME GROWN as we are quite low on them. Anyone else agree that this was a factor? And yes, I know Hernandez wasn't HG.

You are joking aren't you? It is sometimes hard to spot sarcasm on the forum,
-
No of course you wouldn't But for the record, he scored 6 in 35 games. Easy just to write people off before they start. I wonder how many wrote off JRod after his 6 in 35 but now have had a Damascene moment? While Long has had 3 seasons in PL, maybe he has yet to find his true scoring boots. That's the problem with judging people before they have even started. Much better to judge them with hindsight.
-
And how many goals did JRod score in the 35 PL games he featured in in the 2012/13 season?
