  1. Southgate will not have slept well last night and will have replaying all the events in his head over and over again. I think it's fair to say that all his substitutes apart from Grealish let him down to some degree. Whatever, I'm over it already. Anybody else looking forward to Jamaica v Suriname in the CONCACAF Gold Cup tonight?
  2. Such memories are for the future. So you think we might meet them in the final of the European Cup one day?
  3. Whether we pay them the €4 million all in one go or in three stages.
  4. Good luck and thanks for the memory.
  5. ??? Against Ukraine Maguire and Henderson scored from a free kick and a corner respectively.
  6. Yep. There doesn't have to be any sort of list but the referee and his assistants will keep a record of who has taken them to make sure that everybody has their turn. There are restrictions of numbers such that if one team has fewer players than the other then certain players will have to be excluded and the referee informed of their names and numbers. Only players on the pitch at the end of the game may take part and there are certain exemptions for goalkeepers who cannot continue during the process.
  7. From the BBC, Extra-time substitute Jack Grealish - responding to criticism by ITV pundit Roy Keane for not taking a penalty - tweeted: "I said I wanted to take one! "The gaffer [Southgate] has made so many right decisions through this tournament and he did tonight. But I won't have people say that I didn't want to take a peno when I said I will…"
  8. A replacement for Jankewitz?
  9. He failed at the last hurdle. Probably because he was up against a much better team than any he had faced earlier.
  10. Italy had made five substitutions in 96 minutes. We had made two, Henderson and Sako, and from what I saw they disrupted what little rhythm and purpose we had at the time. Kane never got a single touch in their penalty area. As others have said, Southgate sets us up to keep things tight. Scoring goals is a bonus if they happen.
  11. Agreed. Best game of the tournament? And the worst?
  12. Yep. Losing the toss to take the first penalty was unfortunate. Not changing the list of takers in the light of the developing situation was a huge mistake. Neither of the late substitutes looked confident but when Rashford stepped up the balance was in our favour. He was looking at the goalkeeper and not the ball when he kicked it.
  13. Shame we never got to see the best in him. Or perhaps we did?
  14. Who exactly are BSC Young Boys? Are they some Thai kick-boxing team?
  15. Yeah, we did well to keep them down to one goal.
  16. Their keeper didn’t have a save to make (apart from the penalties).
  17. No mention of VAR tonight. How refreshing.
  18. It didn’t happen in my day but that was a long while ago and at a much lower level. I have just looked up the procedure “Each team is responsible for selecting from the eligible players the order in which they will take the kicks. The referee is not informed of the order.”
  19. Southgate on the BBC just now said that the penalty takers were down to him. They had been practising them in training and he decided who should take them.
  20. Then what was the point of those two last minute substitutes? They can only have been thrown on in order to take penalties.
  21. Meh, it’s only a game.
  22. It might have been that Southgate decided what the order should be.
  23. Rashford effectively missed an open goal.
  24. To be honest I think he would have been a better team player that Sterling.
