I remember the winter of ‘63. At my school we played hockey, football and cricket in the three terms. In the middle term we didn’t play any football at all and there were piles of ice on the pavements and by the road. We lived near Harwich and large areas of the sea froze. It was a bit different when we moved to Enfield and our temporary classrooms were so cold that the ink froze in the inkwells.

Tru dat. Neither my wife nor I can ever remember our schools being closed on account of the weather. Can I ask any other members who grew up in the fifties and sixties if their experience is the same? And yes, I know that it’s a different world today but none of us ever got taken to school by car.
