Very strange. As a linesman you are told when flagging for a foul to raise the flag in the hand that indicates which team should benefit so that the referee can decide whether to play advantage. I was watching their interaction very carefully yesterday and it seemed to me that Atkinson looked a bit puzzled by the flag and hadn't seen the kick and just assumed that it was for the initial incident. Bizarre. He overruled both of his assistants which is poor man-management, especially when they're correct. I would have given a penalty against Cahill. I don't know what more he could have done to deserve it apart from the handball and cleaning-out of Austin.

This bit about 'the rest of the world' makes me hold my head in my hands. It cost a hell of a lot more to sell to the rest of the world than it does to sell to your neighbours. That's if they want to buy from us. Are you for real?

Eurovision is nothing to do with Europe. There... I bet that surprised you!

Statistically "proven" - Clattenburg dislikes us

'tis a fine line that they tread. -
We are paying, we have paid, or we will pay? There is more than one figure in that article. I see that you chose the highest. Anyway, we were talking about what the statistics would be if we were to leave. This was my point. We know what we've got now but we have absolutely no idea what the figures would be if we left.

Turkey is not a Balkan state, nothing like it???

Your figure for net contribution is too high.

There's a big difference between free trade and the Single Market.

They are wrong

Of course, the Outers won't have any statistics to help their case. It's all based on hope and wishful thinking.

I read several. I only look at the pictures. I like doing the puzzles in The Times.

A thought occurred to me this morning as I threw my copy of The Daily Mail in the bin. What is the likelihood that all those (Eastern) Europeans who were thinking of coming here but who could not be bothered until now rushing over before the referendum because they fear that they might not be able to later?

It's never happened yet so don't hold your breath

That's annoying. Now that it's on television I shan't be able to watch it

Isn't he out of contract at the end of the season? I suppose this doesn't preclude some sort of deal over promotion.

Liverpool Game to possibly move to Sunday

Best not to go home. -
It would need unanimous approval of all the current member states plus a total change of Turkeys human rights record and a host of other wholesale changes in their society but politically we need to keep Turkey as a friendly buffer between Christian Europe and all that stuff going on in the Middle East so we need to keep dangling the carrot whilst making sure that they never get to much of a grip on it with their teeth.

Only decades of following the political debate, but yeah, whatever.

There has been a lot of talk about Turkey joint the EU for many years. There has been lots of positive noises but in practice there's no chance of it happening.

You could just as easily argue that it's like spending every holiday in a five-star hotel with wonderful food and weather and magnificent landscaped gardens only to go marching out with you possessions tied up in a knotted handkerchief only to end up in an unheated wooden shed in a car par next to Tescos. Neither analogy has any bearing on Britain and the question as whether we remain in the EU.
-
I said nothing of the sort so there's no need for the abusive tone. What I said was that whether we are in or out of the EU it will not make any difference to the non-EU immigration because so far there has been precious little effort to stop that, and I believe that the bulk of the EU immigration has already occurred. There is no chance that any of these already here will be kicked out and anyway, all that would happen after a Brexit is that the EU wannabes would become rest-of-the-world wannabes and I cannot see the total figures coming down significantly. In theory we control our own boarders at the moment but either can't or won't do anything about it. Do you really think any of those in the camp at Calais care whether Britain is in the EU or not?

And do you think the German car industry would continue to source their supplies from th UK in the long term?
