  1. An interesting question. I think they decided not to make the remaining programs and just let his contract run out.
  2. All good points, but you forgot to mention that we are also above both Liverpool and Tottenham and if it finishes like that then you know you've had a good season.
  3. My apologies.
  4. They have plans (see above) for an extension this summer but from reading the Premiere League rules it seems to be more about media comfort and ground safety.
  5. It's the threat of the tax that people hate. The reason that so few properties fall under it is that the occupants haven't died. Yet.
  6. You're confusing me with someone who gives a toss. That I don't is one of the very few advantages of getting old. My detailed questioning of you as to the details of the incident are to demonstrate how little any of us actually know, and you in particular. The questions I ask are very often rhetorical, asking people to examine and test their views. My wider concern is with the rush to judgment, sometimes based on individual prejudices. All I am urging is that it is better to stand back and take a wider view and wait for the dust to settle before throwing the stones. Just think of me as the voice of conscience whispering in the background.
  7. Indeed they should. One indirect consequence of exempting the family home will be a freeing up of the housing market. Anything else that discourages moving house, such as stamp duty, should also be removed. One of the reasons for transport congestion is the reluctance to move house because of the high cost of changing. 50 years ago people used to move if they got a job much more than 12 miles from their home, now they can drive up to 40 miles or more. One other interesting proposal I read was to make it more attractive for older people living in big houses to sell up and move to somewhere smaller. They argued that we needed to build more retirement homes rather than starter houses and that anyone downsizing should be exempt from stamp duty.
  8. It's a result of following Saints for a couple of decades. These are uncharted waters for most of us, we are more used to expecting the worst.
  9. If he joined in the summer I'd be very happy.
  10. Carlsberg in Denmark is different to the stuff sold here, but I preferred Tuborg myself. My (later) wife and I went on a free tour of the Amstel brewery in Amsterdam in 1969 with endless free samples and I've always been partial to the stuff ever since ?
  11. I'd like to think so. Until next weekend, at least.

    ? very good, like it!
  13. I read it as 'for the Crystal Palace game'.
  14. Not 'moving towards the goal'? I was surprised there wasn't a yellow. Besides, perhaps Friend saw that it was Long and therefore not an 'obvious goal scoring opportunity'
  15. Good call. I was impressed with Burnley's attitude when they visited us. QPR seem determined to go down, Sunderland are taking lessons from them and Hull just don't seem to have the required quality, plus a nasty set of fixtures. It's all rather refreshing looking down on the relegation scrap from our lofty perch.
  16. ...and accepted being overruled without argument.
  17. I felt a small twinge of pity at the final whistle when several of their players were down on their haunches and clearly dejected. Their body language during the later stages of the game was also revealing, dropped heads and droopy shoulders by some of them. It seemed to me that they think the game's up already. If Bruce can rebuild their confidence now then he'll be doing well. They don't play for two weeks so he'll have some time on the training pitch with them.
  18. None of our business? Then we might as well delete the whole thread and do something more rewarding. An assault is an assault, with or without provocation. That only comes into play during sentencing.
  19. He played one long ball early down the wing to Long that was way over-hit and then didn't try it again.
  20. Might have. The goal he set up at Liverpool was on the right.
  21. Agreed. He still looks relatively tiny in goal compared to some keepers but is still agile enough to get down to the low shots.
  22. You have consistently misunderstood what I have written. Only you know if this is deliberate or accidental. I have said that the 'punch' is not substantiated. Since you know so much about it, please tell me if it was a punch with his right hand or left hand! Was it a haymaker, a wild swing, a short jab, an uppercut? Did he nut the fellow? All we know from the BBC is that there was a 'physical and verbal assault' and that Tymon sustained an injury. Was it a case of being grabbed by the lapels and as a defensive move he got caught by someone's handbag? In heated incidents of this type the participants themselves are often unclear as to exactly what happened. All this is pure speculation. I will say that the verbal abuse by itself is unacceptable behaviour and sufficient for those in the BBC who don't see Clarkson as their type of presenter to not renew his contract. When I raised the example earlier of John Prescott assaulting a protester his actions were dismissed as justifiable in the face of provocation. What other factors were in play here? We can only speculate.
  23. The question mark was the clue, surprised you missed it. If I'm speculating I will indicate so. I wouldn't want anybody speculating over my speculation.
  24. Shirt tug wasn't it? A mandatory yellow. First half was the direst of dire, only Mané showing any glimpse of something special. Somehow it seemed as if the whole team had been out on the tiles all night. Second half better, JWP getting involved a lot, Tadic looking good and Elia put in a good shift late on. Special mention for Kelvin for a good save low down and Ryan for clearing off the line. 3 points, clean sheet, crap performance, I'd take that any day of the week.
