  1. Mine for a start. Send me all your money and I'll send you an enrolment form
  2. In some philosophies it's a sin to die rich.
  3. I've had enough of you. Got back to the playground and bully someone else.
  4. He was past his best when he joined but had the odd flash moment. He used to live at the bottom end of Hursley and would stand watching me playing for IBM reserves on a Sunday morning whilst walking his dog.
  5. He was awful, easily the worst Chancellor and Prime Minister that I have ever experienced.
  6. All right, 'none of us' insted of 'no one knows. There are only two people who actually know and they're not telling us.
  7. Thanks, I had read the statement on the MacQuarrie investigation (apologies if already posted): http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/investigation-summary.pdf This summaries the version of events agreed almongst all three parties although the details have not been spelled out. I would add here that I hold no candle for Clarkson and if I never saw him again I would not be too bothered either way.
  8. Came off the bench for the last few minutes of the cup replay on Wednesday.
  9. 'Nice effort that' A great man, remembered with fondness and affection. Rest In Peace.
  10. Wrong use of the word 'speculation'.
  11. They may be meaningless to you but that doesn't mean they don't have any meaning. You have accused me of speculating, but that is precisely what I have strictly avoided.
  12. In other words, committing to spending money we didn't have and weren't going to get.
  13. I learnt long ago never to jump to conclusions and never to blindly believe anything that was written in the papers nor reported on the television. All media is manipulated to reflect the angle of the presenter and everybody has an axe to grind. Even if we were present we still may not know what actually happened.
  14. Accounts of the alleged affair differ. Stick to what we actually know and not our prejudices. When you say 'denied what happened', what do you believe actually happened? I have yet to see a first-hand account from anybody. Anything else is speculation and hearsay. See, you have gone off on one again. If I say 'it's all hearsay', what evidence, and I mean real evidence, is there as to what actually happened. I have never said that nothing happened, just that nobody actually knows what actually happened. I wouldn't want to find you sitting in the jury box if you're going to make your mind up on newspaper reports and media speculation.
  15. Oceania hardly noticed, Denmark and Portugal hardly faltered. Germany had a slight retrenchment in very steady growth as did Latin America. Asia saw nothing but a steady rise. It seems to me that the socialist high-spend countries came off worst. The oil price rise alone would have been enough to cause a significant recession.
  16. Hmm... All a bit hearsay, isn't it? It would never stand up in court in the absence of any corroborating witnesses.
  17. I thought they were?
  18. If you really believe that then there's no hope for any of us. Labour was cosying up to the bankers in the City throughout their term in office. There is absolutely no way that a bank can bankrupt a nation, which prints its own money. The causes of the recession were many and diverse and banking was only a part of it. Many countries came through the same period with barely a scratch. Our problem was that Labour's excesses had left us very exposed to world financial problems.
  19. Was he sacked? I thought that they had decided not to renew his contract, which is not the same thing.
  20. There's only one party that created an economic funk and that was by over-borrowing and committing to spending that couldn't be afforded.
  21. Be careful what you wish for. We don't want them to get a good manager.
  22. Very much the way I feel about it.
