What happens to England's lost football grounds?
Whitey Grandad replied to Coxford_lou's topic in The Saints
Reading Darlington Bristol Rovers What upsets me is that I have been to 11 of the old grounds and that has reduced the total number of grounds that I've visited. At this rate they're knocking them down quicker than I can visit. -
It used to meet on an ad-hoc requirement. This from 2006:ttp://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/aug/23/theknowledge.sport "As a rule, if the initial attempt is goalbound it is credited to the player making the goal attempt," explained a Premier League spokesman. "However if the deflection means that a wayward effort results in a goal then it is attributed to the player who had the last definitive touch of the ball." The committee seems to have met earlier this month: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/sam-allardyce-revels-in-absolutely-brilliant-west-ham-win-against-liverpool-9746424.html

Plough Lane now a 'residential development' according to this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27733352 And this: http://www.premierfootballbooks.co.uk/plough_lane.html Quite a collection here: http://www.premierfootballbooks.co.uk/aerial_lost_stadiums.html -
It doesn't necessarily mean that there's a conspiracy but everybody manipulates the media to their own ends, including the media themselves. Take everything with a pinch of salt and try to see the angle that they're coming from.

Saints 8 (Eight) Sunderland 0 - Match and Reactions

It could have gone either way and shows how difficult it is for a referee to reach a decision. Watching it at the time from the central Kingsland it appeared to me that Fletcher had overhit the ball and Forster came out to block the shot but crucially had stopped short of ploughing through him. Fletcher got a toe to the ball first and then tried to avoid the challenge. -
I wonder if 10-0 would have fitted.

CONFIRMED: Rodriguez ruptures ACL - out for SIX months

Oh dear. Does that mean away trips in August to countries we've never heard of in former communist republics? -
Hmm... Goes to clear a ball that was going in anyway and the ball rattles between his legs. Not in the same class as Vergini's.
-
I'm coming round to the opinion that it's Pellè's goal. True, it was hit strongly enough but it squirmed out under the keeper and then rattled between Bridcutt's legs before creeping over the line. If Bridcutt had been standing on the line and the ball had gone into the goal via the inside of both legs then there'd be no argument. Ostenstad's shot was going in anyway.

I do hope the old chap is ok. It's unlike him to stay away for long.

Or too old to panic or worry
-
Yes indeed. At half time in the 6-3 we were singing 'have you got another kit?'
-
I was going to say the same thing. I didn't notice at the time but it was Long's run across the face of the goal that opened up the big hole at the far post for Cork.
-
Wasteful today, I thought
-
Vergini' was pure class. I could see from the way he shaped up to kick it that it was going to go inside the post but the way he curled it round the 'keeper was outstanding. Apparently he played for Argentina in a friendly in Hong Kong so it's not surprising he was a bit confused.

LOL As somebody sent In to a Radio Solent: the Sunderland fans have got an hours journey for each goal -
It's almost as though it was planned this way all along
-
Looking at the replays at the stadium it seemed that the goalkeeper saved it and the ball was going away from goal until the defender made a hash of the clearance and bundled the ball over the line.

SNF game of the day just starting. I'm just finishing my second pint -
I can respect your opinions, along with all others. It's a good thing we're all different.

I have always maintained that there was no need to panic but even I never imagined a start like this. I won't get too carried away but I must admit I'm enjoying it at the moment
