This is all true but think about how many geordies, scousers, mancs, brummies etc. etc. have played in that time frame? A couple of dozen since the war is frankly awful. Has the various scouting systems discriminated against Southampton Schools and the Tyro Leagues, or are Sotonians relatively talentless? BTW Baird wasn't born in Southampton.

Who's starting the Wally Downes for Aldershot thread?

Got to prove himself there first. If he does, then fair play he signs for them and we get some money in for 'the window'. If he doesn't but plays a fair few games for them, he may come back a better player and ready to step up for us. If however, he fails up there I can't see him signing for them nor playing for us and he will be moved on downwards.

He scored a couple for the U18's v Chelsea on Saturday.

Neither born and bred in Southampton though! Mills was from P*mpey and Moran, although brought up in Stubbington was born in Croydon.
-
No, only there for 9 days (played 2 games though).

During that test series it was more like "the bowler's Holding, the batsman is OUT!"

The report on the Chelsea web-site is much better but then again they haven't got the generic cr@p we've got!

Morgan and AL in League 1 team of the week. Was Alps on the selection panel? http://www.football-league.co.uk/staticFiles/4b/40/0,,10794~147531,00.pdf

Yes there are a few but still bit part players (not what I would call proper first teamers). John Sydenham was one but he was just before my time (Tommy Jenkins had taken the shirt by the time I started going) and if your going back longer even Bill Ellerington. It is still a pretty cr@p return for a city of our size and one that is a footballing city.

Even Manny was an Eastleigh boy and Bob McCarthy, Lyndhurst. Wayne Bridge was born in Southampton but brought up in Badgers Farm. As you say a few bit part players (the Nicky Bangers and Paul Bennets of this world) and as mentioned Nick Holmes but not many others.

One of very few Southampton born and bred players to come through the ranks and make it to the top. This and the Martin Chivers thread got me thinking that, although we have brought many players through our academy and youth ranks over the years, why do so few come through Southampton schools? We missed a few at Saints' (Sicknote and Graham Roberts to name 2) but apart from Jamie White, I don't think we have any currently on the books. Over the years you could probably count the amount on two hands.

Possibly been given his own warm-up routine, while still recuperating from his injury problems.

Just made a few adjustments to make it run better, hope you don't mind?

This is what I posted on the other thread. It is a Football League Interactive web-site, based in London. I don't think any of the "journos" that work on it are employed or are even based at the club. The news is late, the stories are lacking quality and accuracy and it is full of bloody adverts! Surely, there's enough "talent" on this message board to do a much better job. I don't know how long the franchise contract runs for but maybe the mods ought to bid next time round? Maybe not.......

That's what the 7th place teams achieved. The 6th place teams have to beat them! OK because of the -10 there's a good chance that our goal difference will be better than teams we finish level with but I don't think one can count on it.

He personally emailed the Football League show Saturday night to let everybody know (and particularly the Wycombe fans) that he had been sacked and had not resigned/walked out on them or left by "mutual consent".

Just looking back, in '05-71 points was required, '06-70, '07-73, '08-70 and '09-75. So as I said 69 was optimistic.

Agree, in the same way the south is not a single entity. Living in E. Yorkshire nothing gets my goat more than to be lumped in with ****neys, because all southerners are the same. I have nothing in common with London, Oxford, Brighton, Bristol, Plymouth or P*rtsmouth for that matter!

Gillett IMO was completely over-rated last season and I've seen nothing to change my mind this season TBH. AP has come in assessed the squad and obviously seen that SG is not for him.
