To get people to take notice enough that they want to discuss it on an internet forum I guess

I'd say the two things are almost mutually exclusive. To be anti-vax is to be a science-denier, while the entire climate protest movement is centred around acknowledging the science behind it.

I don't understand why MOTD didn't show the Redmond 'chance' from our breakaway after WH came close from a corner. They just cut it and showed a replay of that, ignoring the fact we came close to scoring immediately after. Very strange.

Just incredible. So happy for her. What a humble and likeable person as well as talented. Just imagine the support she will have at Wimbledon next year. Shoe-in for SPOTY I reckon.

Been out today so just watched the highlights. Hard to get any impression of the overall performance from that, but Broja looks very confident for such a young lad. Gonna be hard to leave him on the bench if he keeps putting in displays like that. Couple of decent saves from Macca. I know he's everyone's favourite scapegoat but he's actually looked OK so far this season, as he did in the first half of last season. Redmond gets put clean through and STILL waits for 4 defenders to get back before shooting, then chooses the wrong option when the ball came back to him. Such an infuriating player. A clean sheet. A point against a team that has seemingly beaten us with ease in every match in recent years. 3 points better off than from the corresponding fixtures last season. Definite reasons to be positive.

Given the post on the "Cars that have aged badly" thread that Dr Who resurrected recently, if he wants to be taken seriously as a classic car collector then he needs to get himself a Mk2 Fiesta. Then I would have even more respect for him 😉

Oh yeah, the first film massively raised the bar for visuals against which all other sci-fi films were then judged. But the CGI in the sequels was overdone and looked very silly at times (like when Neo fought off a few dozen Agent Smiths all at once), and I thought they were very poor overall. This new one certainly looks good on the eye, but yeah I'm not expecting a great plot. From what it shows in the trailer, Neo seems to have been re-inserted into the matrix and had his memory wiped, so he has to go through the whole process of discovering he is The One again. Just seems like lazy writing IMO.

Meh. Can't say I'm too enthused about this. Looks like they've just taken the Disney approach to Star Wars and re-hashed the original film with the same cast for a new generation.
-
I guess because with Theo unavailable as well it gives Ralph the chance (that he probably won't take, but still) to play Tino and KWP together on the right. Any scenario where Long doesn't get on the pitch is positive though.

Yeah that was surprising. With Philips on a yellow, he should have been hooked and replaced with someone who could put in the tackles needed in the later stages to stop Poland from building any momentum. Poor decision-making from GS.
-
No, definitely Bedders. He did have a good game overall, granted. Did look like he ducked away from the shot though.
-
No more than Poland deserve really.
-
I know it was a good hit from Kane but could Bednarek have tried to head that clear rather than duck away from it? Difficult to tell from the replay angles.

That booking for KP was ridiculous.
-
Did they deny they were planning that then? Must have missed that.
-
I think you're bang on here. Everyone's tired of it all now, and most people were flagrantly ignoring the rules before all the restrictions lifted anyway.
-
One thing I have learned about this government is that if they deny they are planning something, you can pretty much guarantee it will actually happen. Best start planning for more restrictions soon everyone.

I thought you were going to propose that Gao pay for it 😆

Perhaps they just couldn't find the right man during casting, but they were impressed with Sharon Duncan-Brewster when she auditioned for a different role? Who knows. Like you said, it doesn't really alter the story, and maybe even that character works better as a woman? When Herbert wrote Dune in the early 60s, it was still very much a male-dominated world so maybe it didn't even occur to him to write Kynes as a woman.
-
Considering it was basically our B team that played for the majority of the match, it's not that bad really.
-
Yeah Arrival was also very good. Loved the twist.

Gidge - New Light. Album released in 2020 and completely passed me by until a work mate recommended it recently. It's a wonderfully rich piece of ambient electronica, which has dance music evidently in its DNA but definitely wasn't made for playing in clubs. I love this and can't get enough of it. Gets better with every listen.

The new Dune movie finally gets released next month, after being delayed from last December. I've been cautiously excited about this ever since it was announced a few years ago, because Denis Villeneuve is a brilliant director who did an outstanding job with the Bladerunner sequel. But given how difficult the story has proved to be made into a film previously (I liked the Lynch version but I can see why it was so widely criticised), there was always the possibility it would be another dud and a massive disappointment given how long we've had to wait for it. However, I've read a few reviews of it in recent days and they are absolutely raving about it.. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/reviews/dune-review-b1913870.html https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/sep/03/dune-review-denis-villenueve-venice-film-festival?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other Can't wait.

I've watched Thierry Small a lot in the Everton U23s, and believe me he is light years better than Vokins. Livramento hasn't always been a RB, he is an attacking right sided player who was converted to RB out of necessity in the Chelsea youth team. Suggesting moving him forward is not the same as advocating playing a naturally right sided player on the left.
-
KWP was clearly at fault for one of Newcastle's goals last week though, so is he really the best option we have at LB? We signed two new LBs this summer, so it makes no sense whatsoever to play KWP there out of position when he was arguably our best player last season in his natural position. Tino has looked very promising so far, but he's got a long way to go before proving he is our best RB ahead of KWP.
