Shame, I liked him and thought he'd done a good job there. Hopefully this will seal their fate.

37 points? No, I want 40 and I think we could get them if we play as well as I know we can - whether we do or not is a different matter though.
-
Hopefully QPR, Reading and Villa but I've got a nasty feeling we may get sucked in. What will pee a lot of our fans off will be that if we go down a lot of it will have been self inflicted. Overall we've played some great entertaining football but the failure to address the defence quickly and the inexplicable decision not to play Boruc regularly until half the season had gone may cost us dearly. We spent on up and coming talent but you need to survive first and foremost and it's in the balance.

Norwich City 0-0 Southampton // Post-Match Reaction
Cabrone replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Decent point at a tough ground. Whoever called Boruc 'a clown' on here must be feeling a right chump now. Still 4 points of relegation but as I've been saying all along this is going to be a real scrap to survive. -
£6M is a decent price for a player that has a couple of years top level service left in him. It depends on how we spent it really. I'll get some stick for saying this but I'd have Andy Carroll, give him the right service and he'd score quite a lot. A much better player than his detractors would have you believe and I think he'd fit with JRod and our midfield.

But Mayuka is the world's 85th best player according to http://www.SomeMadeUpShyte.com http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/datablog/2012/dec/24/world-best-footballers-top-100-list I'd like to be able to see for myself some day.

Gutted, could have killed QPR off but we ballsed it up. The last 2 games have really hurt us. We're in a real dogfight now and anyone who puts a run together will get out. At the moment it looks like 3 from 5 (including us) and it's anyones' guess who is going to go down. Strap in, it's going to be a brown trouser ride all the way till the end.

Newcastle 4-2 Southampton // Post-Match Reaction
Cabrone replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Didin't think we played too badly really. Had Fox not made those mistakes and Newcastle not scored a wonder goal (offside) a draw was on the cards which would have been a decent point and we'd all have been happy. 11 games to go and our destiny is still in our own hands. I'd have taken that at the start of the season. -
Most important player signing of past 3.5 years?
Cabrone replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
Lambert by a distance. When we signed Boruc I thought he was our most important signing of the season so I'll put him as our 2nd best - so far he's transformed our defence from a leaky sieve to a fairly robust unit. Other than that Cork - fantastic signing who is really starting to form a great pairing with MS especially now that we play a high pressing game. -
Was gutted to see NA go and he will always be remembered with a lot of affection but we've gone up a few notches under MP and I'm quite excited at the moment. MP's first task is to stay in this league and that's looking good so far. If we secure safety then who knows what MP could achieve if we keep our players and bring in a few class signings (free scoring centre forward would be nice). So yes, I have gotten over the change.
-
Yes, thought he was pretty average in lge 1 and the champ but he's impressed me this season and under MP he's looked fantastic. The Schneiderlin\Cork\Davis midfield appears to be relishing this high tempo pressing style of play. Same with Puncheon, didn't think he was anything special in the lower leagues but boy has he looked the business in the prem. Long may it continue.
-
We already had the passing game but MP has also brought in a real pressing game which is squeezing the life out of the oppo when they have the ball and boy is it working. Requires a high level of fitness but if you can manage the physical demands a lot of prem teams don't have the close up ball skills to manage. When we have the ball we pass them to death and then when we lose it we squeeze them to death. So far it's strangled Man Unt, Wigan and Man City. I loved Nige but so far MP really has bought a whole new dimension to our play. Keep it up and we will be OK this season.
-
I'd try and get him for 2 seasons if we could, I think he's one of the best GKs in the prem right now and if he's kept himself in overall shape there's no reason why he couldn't do a Brad Friedel and go on for some time yet. Just a shame few of the fans or the management could see it with all the strange tinkering that has cost us points. All dependent on prem survival of course.

If the boo boys had their way Boruc would have gone without playing and JRod would have been off by now. I'd ignore them, they live to criticise and have zero patience\tolerance towards any player\manager it seems. Ramirez looks good but he's young and is going to take a bit of time. Give him a break.

Down Villa Wigan QPR Up Cardiff Hull Watford

I disagree - think we have every chance of getting something from our next 2, but we must get sharper at taking our chances. This week we have bossed Man Utd around on their patch and destroyed Wigan in the 2nd half on their patch. We made them both look like chumps. We should fear no-one.
-
Immense 2nd half performance, completely strangled Wigan and got through huge amounts of work pressing and hassling them. Should have been 3 points but a momentary defensive lapse and it's 1. That's the premier league for you. Shaw my MoM - what a talent he looks - with special mentions to JRod, Cork and MS. If we could sharpen up a bit more infront of goal we should stay up no problems. Dare I say it but if we had an Adam Le Fondre up front we'd be banging them in all day long.
-
Give JRod the correct service (ground hugging balls through the channels) and he'll score. Remember his FAC goal against Chelsea? The ball was played down the channel and JRod applied a classy finish. The midfield have to give him the correct ammunition as he's got what it takes IMO.
-
Would you take a point at Wigan if offered now?
Cabrone replied to 110_Persaint's topic in The Saints
No, I want all 3 and I think we can get them. They are not nearly as bad a team as a lot of posters on here would have you believe though. Said all along that this relegation battle is going to be tough, there are no mugs at the bottom. Villa are probably the worst but that is due to confidence more than anything, if they pick up a win or two they could transform. Other than them Wigan are a useful outfit, QPR are showing real resilience and an upturn in form, Reading are showing a huge upturn in form and we are looking good now. Newcastle, Norwich, Fulham and West Ham should be concerned. I can see at least 1 of them falling into the bottom 3. At least 40 points is the target and to be super safe 43 IMO. -
Not too bothered, the last thing we want is to sign players we don't really need and if the ones we were interested in didn't happen for whatever reason then so be it. Not forgetting that we did actually sign a highly rated international CB. The squad should be good enough to stay in this league and that is the only benchmark for the season.

Fergie says "Southampton are best team to play here all season"
Cabrone replied to Forester's topic in The Saints
He's quite often nice to teams he thinks are no threat. He got the 3 points, job done. I actually look forward to the day when Ferguson snarls into the mike that he hates the sight of us and tries all his old school mind games on us. Then we'll know we are really doing something right. Not saying we didn't play well but we lost and he got the points. -
Midfield were superb 2nd half, snapped and harried United who were chasing shadows for long periods. Our attack needs to sharpen up though, I thought we were quite blunt. Sometimes we need to play the quick long ball in, we were far too slow to build up. Their GK didn't have to make 1 save in the first half and was barely tested in the 2nd despite our dominance of possession. However the pressing was excellent, Boruc made a world class save, JRod scored a quality goal and United were run ragged in the 2nd half so a lot to be pleased about. Can't help but feel that we could have had a point though.
-
It's just the usual 'Arry bluster. I personally think he'll pull QPR out of relegation, they look a much tougher outfit than earlier on in the season (forget the cup performance) and are fighting for everything. West Ham should have buried them, so should Chelsea but they got the point each time. It's points like that that keep you up. Reading look like they doing their usual 2nd half of the season run - 5 wins from the last 6 -and I see them pulling clear too. Too many on here have been underestimating them. I've no idea why after what they did last year. We just need to make sure we don't get sucked back in there.
-
Will be interesting to see if MP has much of an effect on the team performance for this one. Would like to see an 'in your face' performance but still can't see anything other than a defeat though.

Always thought that Climbatize by the Prodigy would make a great tune as the teams are coming out.
