  1. My name is my user name. No hiding behind pseudonyms. That is me. Born in East Dean near West Dean and nearly in Wiltshire so we used the Budden's '2 bob' coach to get to home games. First game was 1970 versus Leeds United on Mick Jones birthday - my brother took me as I was only eight and I didn't see much and we left ten minutes from time because I was dying for a ****. Leeds United won 3-0, Mick Jones scored two and the crowd was 30,001 which amused my brother a lot as he said the 'one' was me! First away game was, I think, Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final, went with Bobby Cassidy and Philip Paddock and was terrified of getting lost in London. Went to FA Cup final, my brother didn't he was really sore about that - went to the Charity Shield and lots and lots of games after that for few years... Then I discovered I was 'reasonable' at football and fairly good in goal and I enjoyed playing, a lot - so I played for a long, long time and missed a lot of games. Last game was the first 1-0 defeat against Swindon (I now live here) but I'd rather have a leisurely stress-free life so I don't earn very much money and therefore I cannot afford to go to games anymore - unless it's a treat...
  2. Yet again about 85% of predictions of how good our opponents are are proved wrong. More people come on here and praise our opponents than they do Saints. We drew last night after mainly being the better side and let in an unlucky equaliser, West Ham United drew with a pretty **** Watford team and were lucky with a last minute equaliser yet some how the Hammers are better than us - including one prediction I read of them not dropping anymore points this season! Oh dear got that one wrong didn't we? If you could accurately predict the outcome of football matches bookies wouldn't take bets on games ever and the 'pools' would never had existed. Sometimes this forum makes me so blooming angry. Saints FC first. Southampton above all else.
  3. When they beat us 2-1 at St Mary's in the Play-Off semi-final 1st leg Billy 'the c*ck' Davies and their players and fans celebrated as if they had just won the league. In the end they did go up but most fans felt with a second leg (we beat then 3-2 and lost on penalties) and a final to go the celebrating was way over the top and even a little inflammatory. The oft' used expression at the time was 'celebrating like they won the league'. I just wonder that was all but I doubt it to be honest.
  4. Did you hear him on the Football League show yesterday? I paraphrase but it was along the lines of 'we won't celebrate this win like we won the league...' I wonder if that was a subtle little dig at Billy Davies' Derby County? It made me smile even it wasn't.
  5. Obviously any normal person would be disgusted by these 'tweets' and others of that ilk but why are you shocked or surprised? There are human beings in this world who would kill another human being horribly because of the colour of their skin, where they come from, their political or religious beliefs, their sexuality, the way they dress....the list is endless and so is the list of people murdered. Human beings will never shock me, never.
  6. Yes and Hoddle 'managed' 28 games - the next lowest is Capello at 42. With England the more games you 'manage' the worse your win percentage because basically England are crap. So as usual one stat is quoted and others ignored. What you should look at is competitive games and games against top ranking sides - and even then it's fairly meaningless as the stats can never take in the variables which are large in international football. What's more Hoddle is a well known egomanic and would have eventually left when a 'better' or more exciting opportunity arrived - sooner rather than later. The man has a track record...
  7. I sum it up this way. 1. Was very happy and confident; 2. Now unhappy and not confident. On a positive note over the last thirty or so years it's mainly been 2 so it's quite nice to have had a 1 for some while.
  8. I agree one hundred percent. Why think for yourself when you can let others do it for you. (This doesn't mean being controversial for the sake of it or being contrite because you believe it makes you look sage. There's plenty of that goes on too).
  9. Last three games - no defeats. Someone said we'd lose the next five in a row but I can't remember who it was. Can anyone else?
  10. Perhaps I'm being vindictive by can anyone who knows better and more than me (most of you) tell me why the Football League have done nothing and why this club have not be docked any ****ing points. They couldn't wait to hammer Luton Town into the ground, Bournemouth and too a lesser extent us so what is different about this? It is PFC that are subject of a winding up order and it is PFC who haven't paid their tax bill. I really don't understand.
  11. Dalek said we'd lose the next five games - we drew today so he was wrong. He hasn't mentioned that whilst he continually flogs his dead horse into a red stain on the floor on every thread he can. Every post mentions 'like I said' or 'I told you so'. Oh boy forums do allow egos that would normally be restrained to few dozen people run unrestrained.... This is how it goes: We will finish 17th or slightly higher because that has been the plan all season. We have no ambition and are tighter than a crabs bottom and will reap the harvest we have sown. We will not be signing any good players on, only cheap crap ones (the most recent staring with 'ha ha' which presumably means he finds it hilarious that fellow Saints fans are hoping for the best. Which is a bit weird or he isn't as Saints fan) The club and a lot of supporters are about 95% blamed for the recent demise because Glen Hoddle was not reappointed. He left the Dr Who Club or whatever childish thing is was because 'it became popular' (this is all you need to know about his personality). I told you so.....on virtually every single post Regular visitors to this site know this very well. Can we know leave it at that please? It is so friggin' tiresome. We know what Dalek thinks and predicts. We know that you being right is more important to you than Southampton FC being successful and we know you must work at a boardroom level at Southampton FC because you seem to know exactly what the the management and CEO think all the time. And we all know that if you are correct on the team's dreadful demise in the coming twenty games that this forum will be a deserted wasteground because you will become unbearable... What's more Dalek has been completely wrong on so many points but some how it is only because of some freakish circumstance. Coventry should have beaten Saints 3-0 but it was only the change in tactics and their woeful finishing in the first half that proved him wrong. Well I don't know what's gonna happen, I don't know what the people who run the club are thinking and I can't predict the future. When I have opinions or views sometimes I am right and often I am wrong but do you know what that's okay I am at ease with that. I'm tired, so very tired. I used to enjoy reading people's views on here and reading about the games and rumours and the jokes and so forth. I stopped subscribing a while ago and now I think my time of being a regular visitor is coming to an end. It is not enjoyable and so depressing at times you'd have thought we were bottom of League 1.
  12. Cue about three posts saying the club complaining isn't ambitious because they won't pay players £40K a week (if Pompey can be liquidated so can we), another three saying we haven't got any money, at least four saying Cortese is evil, one saying we will finish 17th and 'I told you so', one contemplating ending it all and probably a couple that appear to be written by Hitler with reference to Kenya and then a couple more defending these views. I for one would rather be stable and finish 12th than bankrupt and lose the play-off final - but hey ho each to his own.
  13. I meant he 'does give up a lot of rebounds'.
  14. Joe Lewis is not as good as people think. He doesn't give up a lot of rebounds and is always there for a quick unexpected spill.
  15. The bubble may well have burst but I for one enjoyed every minute of it (except for Walsall away for some reason that sticks in my craw). Now for us old-timers we know exactly where we stand. For the rest of you get used to it - we are Southampton we can beat anyone and we can also lose to anyone - and that truly means anyone. From 1969, Saints 0, Leeds United 3 - until I die, I'm stuck with it. And that was 'not' a bad Saints performance - I've seen some real 'shockers'...
  16. Looks like we're going to have to keep clean sheet - with bouncy, bouncy Kelvin at the moment I have no confidence. Our away league form will continue unabated. I have been very optimistic this season but tomorrow I feel is going to be a veil of tears. I can see us looking up at a club by 1700 hours.......**** just as things were going so well...ho um as it ever was.
  17. As for the comments on the Coventry game, well to paraphrase Don Cherry, 'If my aunt had nuts she'd been my uncle'. You cannot counter disagreement with your negative comments on match day with "Coventry should have score three before halftime" or "If they'd have taken their chances" Well they didn't and they lost 2-1 to Southampton which is supposed to be the club you support with every fibre of your body. Those remarks you made make you sound more like a Coventry supporter. I love being a Saints fan and I hate being a Saints but I'm a Saints fan. Loyalty to the club above all else. I don't care about other clubs and how they run their business and don't care about how the 'should' have beaten MY team. Be a Saints fan not a 'Grim Reaper'. That's what makes me so friggin' angry and why I don't post much anymore. Also you will not fully admit you were 100% wrong - ever. Even Dalek has done that before and I'm not sure he's a Pompey fan....
  18. It's a disgrace. If we haven't signed on at least three 'Barcelona' standard players, as cover for current players, by the time I get up in the morning then I truly believe Adkins and Cortese should be removed from the club and Rupert Lowe and Ian Branfoot brought back. Ah the good old days when we were a 'proper' football club run properly. I'm sure you all miss them.....
  19. Alpine you're on ignore but I read your delightful well thought out reply to my post (at least Dalek gave a reasoned and reasonable reply) because if you don't log in you get the misfortune to read the posts of those you have on ignore. The truth of the matter is you post thousands of replies and comments on here is Saints play badly or get a bad result - if all is well you might post once or twice and that's it. What can I surmise from this? You love it when Saints balls it up. It makes your day. Misery has many friends but it's not mine. I know the bubble will burst some when and I know we will make mistakes as a club and make many decisions I don't agree with but you know what? This is my club and there are many, many supporters of other teams out there that will take the **** out of us, tell us how **** we are and myriad other things...we do not need our own supporters joining in. Support your club through thick and thin, good and bad. At the moment it is fleetingly enjoyable - I suggest you revel in it. Last post of the night and for a while....happy new year.
  20. I think the reason your argument (OP) is flawed is if you looked at those results and the remaining fixtures and worked out how we as a club we do because of our previous record then football wouldn't be very exciting would it? Did you see us winning 5-2 at Ipswich Town? I didn't. Did you see us losing at Doncaster Rovers? Not really. Did anyone give us a chance of winning the FA Cup in 1976? Some pundits and professional footballers were predicting a 6-0 Manchester United win! You cannot tell what's going to happen - we might nose dive and hardly win another game this season (that's happened to clubs before) but also we might win 7-0 at Brighton and go on an amazing run that results in us walking the division - you just don't know. It's like the argument I've heard before many a time in all levels of football "Oh we beat them 3-0 away and you lost 1-0 at home to them so we're going to beat you easily". It just doesn't work out that way. That's why football is the game it is and people go to watch it. If you could work out the results after a quarter of the season why would you bother supporting any clubs except the most successful. If anyone could predict the future they'd be a multi millionaire by now. Let's see......I think you might be surprised by some results and disappointed by others. That much will be true.
  21. **** poor result - still no matter it will make some people very happy - Dalek, Alpine, so every cloud has a silver lining....and we'll still be top after Saturday too. Mind you a few more of these games and we won't....
  22. Is that Nuffields?
  23. My mate texted me - he said there was a foreign type bloke trying to buy Martin O'Neil's house in Winchester....exciting and potentially 'sectionable' times for us all.....
  24. As far as I am aware Norwich City haven't survived the Premiership yet (just like we haven't been promoted). Give them a rubbish holiday programme and a few poor results afterwards and will Lambert and the 'Norwich model' look so great then? See I can do that too... There isn't one person on this forum who can predict the future accurately. Otherwise everyone in the world would have heard of them and they would have claimed the money off James Randi too. I do wish some people would actually revel and enjoy where we currently are as a football club for a short while.....it doesn't happen very often. Or failing that go and support Manchester United like all the other no-imagination idiots we all know.
  25. You are mental. If the player says 'I don't want to play for you' that's it. Unless you want to break the bank. What happened to all the ****s who came on here and said we'd lose? Now they're bleating that we drew! We are the best side in the Championship - the table says so. Deal with it.
