I hope we go strong for this game - if Liverpool really are struggling for experienced players, then let’s go for it. See how our playing style does up against a decent side. I’m hopeful we can give them a tough game and cause an upset 🤞 Saints to win 2-1. COYR 😇 -
Aimlessly playing out from the back at walk speed, allows Millwall to get 11 behind the ball, no space to play behind them, no centre forward, 1 save from their keeper 2nd half, and at the end we are still playing walking football. Load of knob. Offered nothing, got nothing. Turgid Saints, down to you RM.

Stephen’s with the touch of a Sunday league player there - should have been scoring 😱

I agree that this season we are a great watch, lots of goals, nice football, exciting even! However we are up against significantly weaker teams than Saints, hence we look good. Go back up to the top flight and we will be the Swansea or Sheffield Wednesday that we have enjoyed playing this season for the top half teams next season. How much money we could afford to spend will be critical to us even having half a chance of staying up - THB, Downes, Fraser, Brooks, Rothwell, and I’m sure some I have forgotten (?) are all on loan. I’d say the first four are absolute must sign players assuming we go up. We also absolutely would need another striker to replace Che, and they don’t come cheap. Adam Armstrong is also a proven non prolific scorer at prem level so would almost certainly need upgrading too… What would the loan 4, plus 2 strikers cost to sign? £100 million +? Playing possession based football when you’re a top side in the championship is one thing, playing like that against top prem sides - very different proposition. Virtually every playing out from the back mistake would be punished with a goal. Last night we’d have conceded two from errors playing out against a decent prem side. This season is fun because we are the bigger fish in the pond, go back up and it would be a season long struggle with some absolute hammerings in it. I cringe at times this season at how ‘tight’ we play it out from the back and at the top table we would be relentlessly punished playing like that. I’m loving this season, we must go back up now, or we will lose most of our decent players and become also rans again like most of the championship. Fingers crossed for promotion, but I’m really not sure how we’d cope without a big cash spend and a little (lot) of luck! Lets hope we find out 🤞

I think we are doing ok. In control, we will get a goal and go on to win. City are shit and offer no threat going forwards at all. Patientez vous s’il vous plâit.

I’d have preferred Downes to stay on and Stu to go off. Downes had been very decent.
-
Remember 1976 against a superior Man Utd side? Thank god some of you doomsayers and may as well give up merchants weren’t in charge back then 🙄. i mean last year - cup is irrelevant it’s about staying in the prem. This year cup is irrelevant as we are in the hunt for promotion…When exactly should we try in it then?! I give you Leicester and Wigan in more recent times. Bet they’re glad they bothered..!

God this so disjointed 😬
-
What we are lacking is guile. Nothing clever, nothing quality, nothing adventurous, no risk taking. Just no guile at all. Boring. Plodding. Safe. That’s Saints sadly.

Decent save Bazunu.

2 fab saves from Bazunu in 5 minutes. Great stuff

One of Saints finest performances was when we dismantled Arsenal 4-0 on Boxing Day under Koeman. Cuco’s wondergoal match. It was fun, entertaining and we smashed them. 28% possession I believe that night. What I’d hope is our management team analyse the opposition, and then set up Saints to exploit their weaknesses and nullify their strengths. Just turning up and saying we are playing our way and ignoring the opposition is somewhat naive and amateurish. Play the way to beat your opposition seems to make sense to me. Maybe why I’m not a football manager 😁

Just sack captain clueless Martin. Get Chris Wilder in, someone who knows what it takes to get out of this league. Proven at this level. Not some clever dick who thinks he’s a genius and results prove him deludedly wrong. what were you thinking Sports Republic? Always trying to be clever, thinking you’re smarter than everyone else when you clearly are far from it. Just get a normal manager in and get rid of this ‘process’ bollocks conceited twat. Please. We are not and never will be able to play like Man City so stop pretending we need a manager who thinks we can.
-
I can’t remember who said the quote, but it is a wise one :- “football is a simple game made complicated by managers” Seems to sum up RM if it is such a wildly amazingly complicated ‘process’ that it takes months for the players to learn it. Here is mine - play with a recognisable defensive formation, keep midfield tight, and allow you forwards to run into space and pass the ball to them quickly.
-
Equally possession is nothing without purpose…
-
This pissing about at the back, giving the ball away time after time. Inevitable goal. And we have a great ‘keeper’ at passing the ball. Shame he can’t save it with his hands. The manager has got to change this wide open defence, stupid passing for passings sake style with no end product. Mr Martin you need the mother of all team talks now. Sort your mess out.

Saints to win 2-1 😀🤞
-
If he was another unknown Man City nipper we would all be saying so far he is crap. In three games he’s messed up twice and been directly responsible for two goals against us. On the evidence so far he is far weaker than KWP at left back and worse than Peraud also. That is not an upgrade. * After 3 games, just what my mk 1 eyeballs are seeing…
-
Manning needs to get some studs in his boots. Two slips now, one leads to a goal, other could have done but he got away with it. Not impressed with him so far - certainly no better than Peroud…
-
No chance of a clean sheet so we win it 3-2. Che and AA both to score again 🤞
-
Well that was exciting! Eight goals and we didn’t lose - I think a draw was a fair result overall. As mentioned our defending was terrible, we have got to sort out our dead ball defending - we look like conceding at every free kick/ corner around the box. Our side is physically small, we don’t have much height in the side and we struggle because of it. No height up front at all - we get into some nice wide positions around the box in attack, and then have to play it along the ground as there is no physical presence at all. Oh for a Pellé type attacking focus. I though Norwich broke at pace and looked dangerous, we always looked vulnerable to their counter attacks. Bazunu could not be blamed for the goals - terrible defending for all of them. I really don’t know what the solution at the back is other than replacing both CB’s which isn’t going to happen. No pace in them, poor positioning, non existent marking we will concede a fair few goals. Definitely going to have some high scoring games - could be a long wait for our first clean sheet! Enjoyed it, nice to rescue it at the end (kudos Adam Armstrong) kept cool with a good pair of pens, good atmosphere - dare I say it was exciting?! Certainly better than the turgid dog turd we played at home last season. Get a big centre back who can organise, a DM who can get stuck in and break up play, and a focus upfront with some physical presence and we will do ok.
