Channons Sideburns, let me clarify. Alan Woodford was chairman but Guy Askham was Financial Director. LM had persuaded KK to consider joining Saints, but it was GA who sorted out a satisfactory package. Branfoot was obviously a mistake, but he had been a coach at Saints under LM. What sum did GA make? Do you know? SLH shares have never been worth a fortune and his small holding would not have been worth that much. What good would it have done Saints, or GA, if he had held onto them - they are worthless now. I have never heard GA openly support or oppose RL. Perhaps as former Chairman he felt he should stay out of all the arguments. No, I don't understand the hatred and vilification of the people who made the Club what it was in the 70's and 80's - it's hardly been that good since!

I really don't get this hate of Guy Askham. OK, he may have made a misjudgment (allegedly) by supporting Lowe but you are obviously too young to remember that Saints were one of the best run clubs financially and that was down to Guy Askham. He was also responsible for thrashing out a deal to sign the European Footballer of the Year and other top players! What exactly is your problem?

£4m was an Agreed Limit. So SLH have exceeded this by a small amount that might have been repaid after a full house on Saturday?

How much do you think he got for those shares? It would certainly not be a fortune - probably equivalent to the average 'pension pot'. An amount that would make not a jot of difference to the current situation.

However much blame attaches to Lowe, Wilde, Crouch et al, it seems that Barclays Bank have pulled the rug from under SLH for exceeding the £4m overdraft facility by a relatively small amount -£110K. If this is so I recommend a boycot of that bank and maybe a protest outside the Reading Branch that holds the account. Anyone agree?

I'm a Registered User but not a 'Paid Up' member - does that rule me out for being a coach/manager whatever? Have there been many applicants for these positions? Will go to support anyway.

On the question of protests I am confused! Can someone please clarify the situation for me. 1. Is there a march to the ground against PNE? 2. Is there a march away from the ground against PNE? 3. Both of the above? 4. None of the above

Great thread! I was there in '84. Apart from the result, at the pitch invasion I hauled my 12 year old son from his position on the wall. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten that he had taken off his bran new leather jacket and put it on the wall. My the time I got back of course it had gone! Has anyone seen it? My view is that you could buy the entire Issued Capital for c £2.5 Mil at today's prices (assuming they would be available at that price) . We do not need to pay off the Stadium Loan (c£20 mil) as long as repayments are maintained and the Bank would be very happy for the overdraft to be reduced by 50%. Therefore, an investment of £16mil - £20mil buys a very good club and leaves a substantial amount to invest in players. I am beggining to save up - anyone willing to join me?

I have a team picture on my (home) office wall showing date 1982/83 (Original signatures some players) all in Rank Xerox kit. Also have very very small Rank Xerox shirt (son's, now 16 stone!) and a Saints Rank Xerox tie (knew someone from the company) E Bay should be done under trade descriptions!

This is a farce! Many misconceptions in all the nominations and votes. Danny Wallace was an attacking Left Winger - I would never include him as a midfielder in the accepted sense - more of a forward. Where are the nominations / votes for Steve Williams? Surely RM in our best ever midfield eg Williams, Ball, Armstrong. As for MLT there was only one manager who understood what he was and that was Alan Ball - Centre Mid behind the strikers. And yes he did start as a Right Winger.
