  1. I keep reading about this cmfg - who is he?
  2. Some may have seen my post in the MLT thread. It would not cost the club a fortune to at the very least give LM, MLT, MC and a few others complimentary tickets. We might have a great future but we also have a great past. Lets remember it and treat those that acheived so much with respect. LM is 74 and despite the fact that he did so much he is not allowed in the front door for f*** sake - disgraceful! (and please do not start harping on about what he took from the club - there has never been any evidence that he was paid the vast sums that some have claimed!).
  3. This incident is indicative of the attitude since the takeover. All fans appreciate where we are and where we are aiming to get. BUT, we do have a history - it didn't start with the takeover. Every other ground you go to or see on TV has tributes to their 'greats' including named stands, suites, gates etc. We have an (excellent) statue of the father figure of the club which was funded by one of those that the present administration choses to snub and was erected before their arrival. It is time for these issues to be properly addressed so that we never lose our past which for the most part is something to be proud of.
  4. I have tried several times today, without success, to get through on the phone. What I cannot understand is the OS said tickets would be restricted to one per person on the database. How is it then that people are walking away with handfulls of tickets as reported on the OS?
  5. We should play our strongest team and tonk them 8 Nil! (Their reserves & youths). No third division team has ever reached an FA Cup Final. What a Double that would be - F A Cup and Div 1 (3) Champions! That would get you all excited!
  6. Stanley Matthews was not the Beckham of his day! Matthews was a real winger - Beckham is a wide Midfield player. World of difference in my view. Can't think of anyone now I would call a real winger.
  7. Don't you mean 'our'?
  8. Living remote from Southampton I didn't know anything about this and would have gone. Try to keep in touch through here, the Echo and OS but sometimes things are missed. Would appreciate FF advance notice of any other proposed meetings of this nature or other events if that is possible. L.Mc, MLT , MC and others should be honoured by the club and not treated as 'persona non grata'. Every club I have been to, including my own very small local club of which I am President, has pictures, memorabilia and even stands with their names, of past heroes - why should we be any different?
  9. MD also said a lot of things that many of us agree with e.g. Cortese doesn't want to know about our history - has no time or respect for ex players and managers etc. - His dictotorial attitude is likely to put good managers off taking the job. Southampton FC didn't come into existence when NC took over as CEO, it has a long and mostly proud history and he should acknowledge that instead of allienating people we remember with great affection for their part in that history. Even if he appoints a first class manager, he must address the above or he will lose many of us. And btw, Mark Dennis was a great player!
  10. I'm glad someone prints the team the right way round! I'm sick of people, including the OS and sms, showing the right back at left back etc. Small point maybe but annoying. COYR.
  11. Great statement apart from slagging off Lawrie Mac & LE Tiss. They were only showing their support for AP as were most supporters. Neither would do or say anything to harm the club and the majority of us would like to see them honoured in some way rather than having these comments thrown at them! NC would have been far better slagging off the Daily Mail who for the umpteenth time have published unsubstantiated speculation as fact.
  12. BEWARE! Fecking site crashed my computer!
  13. I was ill for the ZDS Final (serious ill, major op drama). Didn't know the score until monday. I've got my flag out that my son brought to the hospital for me. Will take it tomorrow (but keep it in my pocket cos it's blue!)
  14. No Window Cleaner - Millwall is in South EAST London - Old Docks area!
  15. This doesn't need discussion - there is only one real candidate. He is the reason I started supporting this club and he provided, through his teams and personality, the most enjoyable time I have ever had watching football. Those miserable detractors who have accused him of all sorts of things of which he is not guilty were probably not there at the time. He is as much 'Mr. Southampton' as Ted Bates was (due respect) and there is no one that can be invited into this honoury position above him. And if I have to name him you are on a different planet!
  16. I was at the Guildhall Forum ( a proper forum!). Steve Curry , Daily Express Football Writer, was Chairman with LM, Jack Charlton and Dennis Law answering questions from the audience. KK was introduced during the evening and the place went balistic.
  17. Today is St.George's Day - appropriate don't you think!
  18. I agree with most of the comments above but ladysaint hasn't got it quite right. I don't know how old you are but from 1977 until the Branfoot era, Saints were a real force in English football with many of it's top players including 6 or 7 who had captained England. There was regular European Football, Cup Semi Finals and Runners Up in Div 1. In other seasons Saints finished in a respectable position and only a few times were we in real danger of relegation. This all shows how far we have fallen during the Lowe years.
  19. For the Special Attention of Nick G. Can this be returned to a David Armstrong Thread! Nick, I don't quite understand your post but if you are referring to DA he played 9 Seasons for Middlesborough and 6 for Saints. That does not add up to 20%. He also played 3 times for England. Between 1981 and 87 he was part of far and away the best midfield Saints are ever likely to have. Why he has never managed I do not know but he is a far better candidate than that non entity Tommy whats his name.
  20. Well said Chuz! More info on why he left us:- First Time - Having taken Saints to Runners Up in Div 1 and FA Cup Semi Final, he wanted to move on and up from there. The Chairman then, Alan Woodford, said there was no more money available. LM decided, and stated, that he could not do any more and left in frustration really. Second Time - Having been instrumental in bringing Graeme Souness to the Club, he felt he had to resign when Souness did over Lowe's broken promise to invest in the Team. All of that is not quite what is intimated by 'walking out on us twice'!
  21. Perhaps this needs a new thread but, as I am unable to do so, I'm putting forward this topic on here. With all that has happened in the last few years there is one person, as far as I know, that we have heard nothing from. That is the Club President, John Mortimore. Is he around? Is he interested? Does he have nothing to say even just a rallying call. I'm not sure he should ever have been elected President but that is what he is. I think Ted Bates might have had something to say.
  22. Channons Sideburns, let me clarify. Alan Woodford was chairman but Guy Askham was Financial Director. LM had persuaded KK to consider joining Saints, but it was GA who sorted out a satisfactory package. Branfoot was obviously a mistake, but he had been a coach at Saints under LM. What sum did GA make? Do you know? SLH shares have never been worth a fortune and his small holding would not have been worth that much. What good would it have done Saints, or GA, if he had held onto them - they are worthless now. I have never heard GA openly support or oppose RL. Perhaps as former Chairman he felt he should stay out of all the arguments. No, I don't understand the hatred and vilification of the people who made the Club what it was in the 70's and 80's - it's hardly been that good since!
  23. I really don't get this hate of Guy Askham. OK, he may have made a misjudgment (allegedly) by supporting Lowe but you are obviously too young to remember that Saints were one of the best run clubs financially and that was down to Guy Askham. He was also responsible for thrashing out a deal to sign the European Footballer of the Year and other top players! What exactly is your problem?
  24. £4m was an Agreed Limit. So SLH have exceeded this by a small amount that might have been repaid after a full house on Saturday?
  25. How much do you think he got for those shares? It would certainly not be a fortune - probably equivalent to the average 'pension pot'. An amount that would make not a jot of difference to the current situation.
