In 4 seasons at Fulham AJ has scored 13 goals from 65+(21) games. Last season he managed 3 league goals in total - ironically, a hat-trick against QPR. Not exactly inspiring IMO. As for Nelson, yes he has lots of experience, but only managed 9 league matches last season. He is also not the quickest and not the tallest for a CB. I would certainly rather JRod over AJ and hope we sign (at least one) better CB than Nelson.

If our first two signings were AJ and Ryan Nelson I wouldn't be feeling too optimistic about our chances. However, I think Hughes is a decent manager and will keep them up - but expect them to be closer to the bottom than the top - and I think we have a good chance of finishing above them.

Given the highly probable situation that we won't finish in our usual 2nd spot this season, move Man City up one and insert Arsenal at 3rd. Also, if Martinez stays at Wigan for the entire season remove Wigan from 18th and insert West Brom (or possibly Norwich - I forgot they had lost their manager and that Holt has put in a transfer request).

In other words (if I understand it correctly) he is saying that no player wants to move until they are fully paid their deferred wages - minimum. And that's without any (like, presumably, TBH and Kanu) who will also want their future (contractual) wages paid up before they leave as well. I guess it is the deferred wages that Birch keeps talking about in terms of 'compromise, to be paid a fraction of over the next 5 years or so'? And there was me thinking he was going on about the remainder of their contract. From this, I suspect Chinny doesn't even want to use some of the remaining pp's to pay money the deferred player's wages. He just wants it all for himself!! And a second wage deferral forced upon them? When did this happen? I know there was a rumour of wages not being paid, but I don't remember seeing anything in the media about non-payment or an increased deferral. I either missed it or they kept it VERY quiet. And, as it appears it was FORCED upon the players I guess this would a transfer embargo? I am sure they will get around it with the minimum 20 squad players (as well as no 'keeper) blag they used last year; but one would hope that if they do survive and are allowed to sign any other players the FL will insist that they can only sign those out of contract and have to put them on very low wages.

I am actually quite chuffed with our first game. Go there before they start building up a head of steam and whilst we are still on a high from our promotion. What a first prem game for the likes of Rickie. There are usually a couple of shock results on the first day of the season. Whilst most people will expect us to lose this one, we could be one of those shocks. I certainly hope Nige and the players will think so! Also, it is highly likely that this one will be televised - which is great for us ex-pats!!

I experienced a couple of storms like that this time last year when I was in Ukraine. Cool to watch through the window whilst having a drink, but wouldn't have wanted to play football through it. Still, game now restarted. Hoping for a draw.

That really is a crazy article. Seriously, how can they continue? No one allowed in until others leave. The players currently on very lucrative contracts don't want to leave and get paid less elsewhere. They can't start the new season with only 11 players, and zero goalkeepers. Something has to give - or get liquidated!!!!!!!!

If he went over yesterday to watch A PLAYER in A COUPLE OF GAMES it must be someone from Group A. My guess would be a Pole. We don't have one at present after letting Bart go, and need one to keep a large proportion of the Soton populace happy.

That is a very good question. Trev is clearly only keeping them going right until the very last penny is gone as each and every day they are still going he and his company make more money! This is plain wrong, IMO. But, then again, whether hen liquidates now or in 6 weeks time any monies raised will only go to Chinny. So I guess the only real difference is how much more of my life I am going to waste on this thread!! The worrying thing for me is that the creditors meeting is on the 25th and I go on holiday - for 4 weeks, with next to no inter-net connection - early morning on the 26th. I will undoubtedly have at least 50 pages to catch up with when I get back from holiday. So I guess I had better keep a few days clear in my diary upon my return!!!!!!!

I am in my 40s and my fb friends list is pretty okay too. I am off to Ukraine (Crimea) for 4 weeks in 2 weeks time. Lookin forward to it!!
