Post FA Cup final 2003 then. We can see when you became a fan.

I remember a halycon time for this forum. Back in it's glory days when Steve Grant was nothing more than a mod, before the days of infraction points and subscriptions. That was the glory time for this forum. We used to have seating plans for away games so everyone knew where each other was sitting, every home game and so away games the build up thread title was "Who's got a ticket for *insert clubs name* game?" with exictable post after excitable post talking about how much they were looking forward to it. Great posters who dont bother any more and you can see why like Essruu, JB, Alfreds Girl, Partrick Bateman, Paul Allen, Aids Victim, saintpaulkiptanui. It wasn't without it's trolls, SRS being the big name on that score but the good posters who dont bother any more and you can see why used to deal with him and knock him down with the aplomb of sachin tendulkar picking off a loose spin delivery and despatching it over square leg and the boundry into the celebrating crowds massed in the stands. We had the era of the ITKer, with the nudge, nudge "i cant say too much but........" posts. It also wasn't without it's controversy either, Crouchie and his threats to sue and of course Amygate. Oh yes, that was the golden period of saintsweb. We were like a family then and it was a much better place to be, before saintsweb became this corporate machine that didn't give a toss about the posters and were only interested in racking up posts counts and subscritptions. What this forum has become is another sad inditement of modern football i'm afraid.

The club is no longer run FOR the fans...............
Turkish replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I've been saying for months that players and fans want to win things and that we should try to win the cups. A few months back i was told that this was ridiculous, shouted down and we need to concentrate on the league, we played a weakened team at the league cup game at Sunderland and this was a good thing otherwise it would detract from our push for the champions league. It was champions league or nothing. Now reality has hit home and the fact of the matter is, like some "trolls" said back in october, we aren't going to make the champions league and we will finish midtable then suddenly it's outrageous and disgusting that the club haven't taken the cups seriously. Players and fans want to win thing, they want memorable days out and they want a shot at glory, this is what sport is all about. What it isn't about is settling for midtable at the cost of all else. To those that are happy we went out of the cups meekly i'll ask you this, are we a sports club or a cash cow? In 30 years time do they want to remember the days we played a cup semi final or final at Wembley or do they want to talk about the time we got an extra £2m quid for finishing 7th rather than 12th? -

This. That would mean 90% of our fans are complete bellends who talk a load of sh*t. -

Except it isn't that straightforward. On paper, yes the team should have had enough about them to at least get a draw. Yet they played with no tempo or aggression. Aside from the goal we actually defended okay, however MPs best attempt to get us back in it was to take off our best player and replace him with an 18 year old who had never played a minute of first team football. This unfathomable, you can bleat in about fatigue but there was only 10 minutes left. It seemed to me to send out a message that if anyone wasn't sure that we don't really care about the cup then there was the final bit of proof. I'm sure you can explain the logic behind it though. -
The only teams that can compete with our away support is Manchester United and we haven't won anywhere near as much as them.

What message did that substitution send out to the team and fans? It seems to be only you struggling with this. -

Lallana didn't play badly. It just doesn't add up why you would take off your best player and bring a kid on who hasn't played a minute of first team football on when you're trying to stay in the FA cup. -

Why take off your most creative player and give a kid a debut when chasing a game? -

Just like every other club, when you chase fans dreams you end up like Leeds United. -

So you're saying if a manager has an apathetic approach to a game then it won't affect the players? -

Hear what? I'm not really sure what you're asking for. Cortese has been gone a month, we've had a statement from Kat, a new CEO appointed for the interim, been quite a few articles on the OS, more so than when Cortese was here, what do you want to hear? -

Yeah big difference, refusing to speak to the press, why? Bringing on an 18 year old for his debut and taking off our most creative player when 0-1 down. Is that what he does in league games? -
What did you think of Cuba?

MP usually spends a lot of time on the touchline in league games and we've not turned in a performance like that. Coincidence? -

Exactly, he wasn't answerable to the fans. He was answerable to the shareholders and the bank manager. What you seem to be saying is a PLC is better than being privately owned. -
You are the Che Guevara of mongboard Glasgow.

So what Input did the fans have when Lowe was here? I seem to remember you used to slag him off too. I see we've got a 'you can say what you like about Lowe but at least he had a tellrupert@saintsfc.co.uk email where we could talk to him' type thread going on. -

Don't worry, they'll console themselves by framing a picture of the final league table this season and putting their 8th placed finish where their cup winners medal might have been. -

It was like that long before the Liebherrs were here just like most other clubs. -
Good job you're online now to raise the level then isn't it. Oh no wait, just whinging as usual

That was just an example of the things he could have done. Dropping Wanyama into centre back and bringing on Cork and go 3 at the back was another option. The point being there were lots of things he could have done to shake things up and go for the equaliser, bringing on a kid to make his debut and taking off our most creative player when you're 1-0 down with 10 minutes to go is not an option you'd take if you were busting a gut to make the quarter final. I don't buy that the tank was empty, what difference does 10 minutes make? Lallana said himself it was our biggest game of the season, I doubt he'd have been too pleased coming off if this was truly the case.

If it had been a draw yesterday and the ball had been Sunderland or Southampton would the draw still have been to play Brighton or hull? It's all very confusing this.
