  1. Yeah we would have been but Toney cost Brentford about £5m he was an absolute steal, Mitrovic cost Fulham about £20m he didn't have a great premier leauge record until this season but definitely better to sign one of him than gambling and trying to be clever and buy YHGTI players or ones from abroad in key postions rather than signing players under our noses who might cost a bit more. It's like the whole nonsense with the centre back, we've been desperate to for a quality centre back since the winter of 2017 but rather than going out and getting a decent one we've tried to be clever and gone through a load of shite and 60 million quid, now we've finally got one or two.
  2. i fear he might have a tough job winning the fans over, remember how some didnt like Puel from day one because they found his interviews boring! Hopefully if he comes in the fans give him a chance and support him
  3. See i dont buy this about the money and size thing. We've had 11 years of hundreds of millions of TV money, yes of course there are some clubs that we cant hope to compete with, but why cant we compete with the likes of Brighton, Palace, Leeds, and we should be much further ahead than Fulham, Brentford, Forest. All us fans can really ask for is a midtable finish and a good cup run, we dont want more than that and given the amount of time we've been in this league with the money coming in there is no reason why that is unrealistic. Even our transfers up to this season were funded by sales. We're being sold the line we should just be happy to be in the premier league but to me that is nonsense and to be honest if our sole ambition is just to stay up i'd rather go down, at least we'd be competitive and at least it wouldn't be as boring uninspiringly as the repeat of the mantra in the 90s of survival is success.
  4. Me neither, it's a weird one. Maybe the thinking is like you say, if we go down he would know the league and get us up. Although i really dont like that thinking, they should be planning for how we are going to stay up not plan for the worst.
  5. Fantastic from Selles. Thats what some of them needed.
  6. Interesting that there is a rumour circulating that Semmens penny pinched and cost us a big signing that had been agreed by SR. This piece i've just found seems to tie in with that Cody Gakpo: Southampton ready to increase transfer offer with Leeds also interested | Football News | Sky Sports
  7. A deliberate relegation? Madness, spend £100m+ with an £80m debt and lose hundreds of millions of TV revenue? This was levelled at Goa as well. No chance they will want to get relegated so they can lose all that money and hope to make it back by selling players from the championship. It's a strange appointment no doubt, it could be a genius one but more likely one that will end up in a relegation battle for sure. It's clear what their aim is, buy young and sell for profit, but they aint going to do that by getting us relegated on purpose.
  8. I was surprised too to be fair, thought he'd gone there shortly after turning us down.
  9. actually not, he joined them in March 2002 when they were in a relegation battle. The previous summer Lowe had interviewed Moyes for the job at Saints that Stuart Gray had been caretaking since Hoddles departure, Moyes turned us down as Lowe wanted him to keep Gray and others on as back room staff.
  10. The only postive i could see is that we might get god on our side, but then remembered we've had him/her/they since 1885 and that hasn't gone too well so far.
  11. Just listened to the Jake Humphries podcast with Eddie Howe. Comes across brilliantly, such a shame we never got him, would have been perfect for us. Think he's above our level now whatever happens in the future at Newcastle.
  12. Yeah like I said, overweight and scruffy and joke fights with the players.
  13. Remember how much grief Puel used to get for this diamond formation….
  14. Really? First time I’ve heard that one and I had quite a few connections at the club at the time. Either way I know the players used to openly take the piss out of him and he had zero respect.
  15. Results wise sturrock wasn’t a disaster but it Kind of emphasises the point others have made about having the respect of the dressing room. He didn’t have it, he was considered a bit of a joke figure mainly because he was scruffy and overweight. So to those who say why wouldn’t Jones have the respect of the dressing room, it’s not guaranteed Sturrock didn’t and he had a good playing career.
  16. Dont we already have a loan to that tune? Maybe it's just a refinancing of that given the other loan was on some sort of crazy high interest level. Although with rates going up a lot since then maybe not? Who knows.
  17. Nathan Jones announced to the media.
  18. Hey pal, we've got the song for Nathan nailed already, it's the old Bananarama classic Nathan Jones. I've penned a classic for Rasmus though, to the tune of Hans Christen Andersen... I'm Rasmus Ankersen I've many a tell to tell And though im a data geek i tell them rather well, I'll give you stats and every XG, when i have a moment free im Rasmus Ankersen Ankesen that me.
  19. It's a bit different managing a department at a local council than it is managing a group of young, egotistical, proffesional sportsmen playing at and elite level to be fair.
  20. Im really looking forward to seeing MLGs view on Nathan Jones.
  21. Agreed. There has been some quite unpleasant stuff said today which is totally unnecessary. Someone with an agenda must be feeding them this. Completely uncalled for and in bad taste.
  22. I’ve supported saints for 139 years had a season ticket since antelope ground and honestly I can never remember it being this bad. The days of back to back southern league titles seem a decent memory, oh how I wish we could show the ambition that we did with Ernest Arnfield in 1897, no way will we we be winning 5 titles and 2 fa cup final appearances under Nathan Frigging Jones
  23. It was summed up very well by someone on Facebook today. They were a team in his imagine. When he was up so were they, passionate and full of energy, when he was down so were they, dour, almost depressing, lacking any spark.
  24. A fair assessment, he's going to want the job it's a good opportunity for him, i really cant for the life of me see why we'd want him though.
  25. Ankersen knows what he's doing, he's done a ted talk and everything.
