I just listened to a very interesting podcast with Dan Carter, All Blacks legend, made a very good point that 25 years ago if anyone in Rugby went to see a pyschiatrist everyone would think there was something wrong with them, these days if you dont they think there is something wrong with them. He also directly attributes the all black failure in 2007 v success in 2011 down to their mentality, they believed if they trained more they'd win the world cup easily when it was their mentality of freezing when the going got tough, for 2011 they brought in a psychologist who absolutely transformed the teams mindset. I know its on a slightly different tangent to the theme but shows how attitudes have changed over the years and how much of a difference the right mentality can make to performance.

Yep, they're getting desperate, or at least the media are to link them with everyone. Although Broja might see them as a good long term bet regardless of what happens this season.

Report: Newcastle bid £33m for ‘brutish’ talent with just 10 Prem starts (hitc.com) Uh oh....

I just had a flashback to Les being "relaxed" about the Alderwierld situation, wonder if we'll threaten to sue Chelsea when he's unveiled at Newcastle.

Signing imminent give his track record

Remember we did a similar deal with them for Bertrand. One year loan but we ended up completing the deal permanently in the January window, i guess the remaining terms of the loan deal will be tied up in overall deal. Either way i hope we haven't wasted time bidding for him if Chelsea have no intention of selling and/or Broja has no intention of joining. You'd think that this is an encouraging sign on one or both of those accounts.

So we did it once 20 years ago when we signed a young man from Latvia. Not exactly the same as signing a young English lad from Croydon. Plus we’ve got Broja here from Chelsea as well, maybe he’s only here to keep Tino company too with the club hoping by the end of that year he’d have made some new friends?

damn you beat me to it

Sounds like he's being put on a pedestal.

Sour times for Cheltenham fans losing such a good young player. It could be sweet for us though.

Brilliant, love it. Other teams should hate playing us, not look forward to it and complement us on how nicely we played after they've thrashed us. Hopefully Romeu will become Grealish nemesis, in the Brick top definition of the word.

Might have to set sail soon Brett, you'll be away for a while for this one pal. hope you've got a stash of clean aprons.

Obviously hasn't grasped the concept of "team of the week" if he's leaving him out for stuff he did in other weeks

Such a shame it wasn’t on BT so we could hear Peter Waltons expert analysis to defend the onfield decision

We just need to get to 40 points as soon as possible or we are definitely going down

Some people think Ralph never does anything wrong, even when he admitted he was wrong himself.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

Good point without the Internet some people wouldn’t be able to bore everyone with their self righteous piety -
He has a great habit of being in the right place at the right time. I remember people waxing lyrical about performances by by some centre backs over the years where they’ve stopped goals by desperate last ditch blocks or tackles. that was a very different type of defensive display where the ball was like a magnet to him every time it got in the danger zone, calm and composed rather than diving in desperately which shows he’s a great reader of the game. Still a bit raw with an error in him like the sending off against spurs but quite a player we have here

And there is the problem, expectations. People expect to have Cars, sky TV, computers, iPads etc these days. 40 years ago these things were luxuries, now people expect them. It’s easy to blame the government but the reality is that many people live well beyond their means, stacked with debt, but still let’s absolve people of their own responsibility and blame the everything on the government we don’t like -
Yep and despite us being lucky to only concede 5 some on here were celebrating the fact their manager said for 20 minutes we were the best team to play them that season. It was good to see some of our players getting stuck in to them, we should be horrible to play against, loved it that Grealish was pretty ineffective the whole game and ended up waiting in the tunnel for Romeu, what he was going to do is beyond me but means Romeu got right in his head, great to see.

Good comparison. I was thinking he was the Albanian Tomaz Pekhart, similar sort of hype around him. I’m not really sure why they keep saying he’s quick, he got outrun and outmuscled by the deceptively slow and weak Dias yesterday. so what he outpaced Potus Jansen for his lucky goal against Brentford, I’m quicker than that useless danish prick there is a reason why Leeds flogged him. He’ll probably go on to have a decent career in the Eastern European leagues which Is probably about his ceiling.

Your second comment completely agrees with my point though, despite appearing to disagree with it in your first Tuchel probably won’t be at Chelsea in 2-3 years so why bother risking his reputation on a youngster who won’t hit his peak until he’s long gone when he can spend £90m on a proven player now
-
Thought he was poor. Caught offside twice when all he had to do was look across the line, missed two great chances, second was easier to score, city defenders won’t have an easier game this season, miles away from being a player good enough to start for a team like Chelsea with title ambitions. Won’t get anywhere near their side. They should cash in while they can
