He is a goalscorer. His allround game isn't amazing which may put others off. Different teams have different ways of playing etc. We create a lot but aren't good in front of goal so it should be a decent fit providing other forwards have pace to run in behind, like Mane.

Until Longuero replaces £30m Benteke at Liverpool. [emoji38]

@draper_rob: #QPR say deal for Charlie Austin to @SouthamptonFC not quite complete - but can expect it to be done later today. More @MailSport

Best thing about the signing. That guy is priceless. Its being reported by the Telegraph Chief Sports writer Sam Wallace now, so looks a done deal. Wonder if there is scope for any forwards to leave? Also wonder when Austin is fit? He genuinely has been injured apparently.
-
At that fee you hope its done quickly!
-
That is a ludicrous bargain if true.
-
Was it that low? I thought it would have been nearer 50. 42 is poor.

http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-wls-watford-interested-in-qpr-winger From today: This says QPR havent received ang offers for Austin and he wants to stay til end of the season and assess options then (as would be sensible for any free agent). Bookies odds are a waste of space IMO. Probably last week he was 1/5 to go to Newcastle, Sunderland or anyone else.

They said it this morning: http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/article4666945.ece Doesn't mean its true of course, just putting it out there.

Times suggesting Watford are interested in Austin.

Still getting a lot of @gasramirez10 to Bologna tweets. As I said, led to believe not over yet. Games are being played by all #SaintsFC
-
Not against a physical WBA. If Clasie doesn't start as Ron suggested, then Wanyama should. As a defensive midfielder there is no comparison between him and JWP.
-
More fool the people that actually think to ask Crook... That said, do find it hard to believe this one.
-
I'm not worried. But its a shame to change a winning formula in midfield. Especially when its not performance related and we don't have another game for a week. Its easy to slag Wanyama but he can play three games a week, like Morgan could, Cork could, Davis can. Clasie, after 6 months at the club, can't. A shame.
-
Sanchez is coming back for Arsenal, but they won't leave out Ozil etc etc. He isn't being rotated. He isn't playing because he isn't fit enough to play three games in a week. No disgrace and can improve, but no point denying it.
-
No reason for him not to start tomorrow then?
-
Drop what? Just saying he isn't starting tomorrow and it isn't because he isn't good enough too. A team like ours needs our best players on the pitch every game. So hopefully in the summer he can sort out his fitness because he obviously has a lot of quality - but that doesnt help win games from the bench.
-
Ron says Clasie probably won't start tomorrow due to "freshness". Bit of a shame and I guess he played 90mins as we knew Wanyama would be available on the Saturday. Still think that however good they are a key player in a key position should be available each game, probably 8 or 9 of the other starters on Sat will have been able to play the same games.
-
Wanyama very likely to start tomorrow as Koeman admits in the presser that Clasie probably isn't fresh enough to play for the third time this week.
-
Obviously no point signing him then?
-
I'm probably in a minority, but I don't really see a lot of the hype around Austin and don't especially think he would be a brilliant signing. Certainly not for a team that views itself as chasing a European spot if thats the case. Also this season we arent going down nor getting a European spot so if he wants to join, wait til the summer and save £6-8m which seems much more a Saints type policy.
-
Surely no chance of Kelvin Davis getting another contract as a player though?
-
Townsend in talks with Newcastle. Quite a few previous targets are moving in this window, so some of the tired names mentioned on here will need to be refreshed for the summer.
