The thing that I like about it all is the simple fact that getting the CVA approved doesn't get the embargo lifted. That only happens once the FL is happy with the new owner.

I lived and worked in the States and as a people I found them really nice. However, their insistence that "The American Way" is the only way irks the left. The survival of the fittest ethic does not sit comfortably with the liberal democracies of Europe where our brand of social democracy is more inclusive. In addition, the war in Iraq (to a lesser degree Afghanistan) is seen by plenty as an American war of aggression that we were dragged into. That war certainly changed the view of people I know who were indifferent at best about the yanks beforehand. All, of course, IMHO.

I don't think anyone with any knowledge about WW2 would argue that the war wasn't won on the Eastern Front but 1940 was a seminal point in this nations history and stretched into 1941 with the Battle Of The Atlantic.

No doubt Typhoon has its place. Every country would look to having an air superiority fighter but under current SOPs the Typhoon hasn't been needed in that role where as ground support has been needed like never before and that was my main point.

I know two families (2+3) (2+2) who couldn't get the cash together at such short notice to do the renewal so they've given their season tickets up. If they'd have been given notice that it was going to be withdrawn they could have saved in advance. I'm willing to bet it's blokes who only have to pay for one ticket who don't see the problem.

The need heavy armour, in the amount that we currently have, is a relic of the Cold War and so needs to be chopped back and there is also no need for a British Army Of The Rhine. The RAF, whilst still needing an air superiority role, needs to become integrated with the army as a close in air support organisation. Typhoon is again a relic from the Cold War.
