Exactly. If he scores and shows a bit about him then he's unlikely to get a hard time. The idea that our fans are uniquely unsupportive and that other fans wouldn't be feeling similar after another terrible season and years of underwhelming mismanagement and guff is a nonsense. This player deserves a level of support and a hope that he is successful for us and we can also acknowledge that it is quite an underwhelming body to bring in for a number of reasons after letting Armstrong go. The two things aren't mutually exclusive. P.s. I didn't see anyone calling him a prick but that's obviously a silly thing to say since we don't know him unless they were referring to reports of his attitude. I can see why there may be some fears that he could turn out to be a joke or a donkey- particularly because the last attacking signing appeared to fit those descriptions rather well.

I don't think anyone is going to not give him a chance- primarily because as fans we don't have any choice. If he plays well and contributes for the team then I very much doubt anyone will have an issue.

Hmm they are laughing and think he's terrible. *checks injury record. Hmm not very encouraging this season. That doesn't mean he will definitely be terrible for us or that anyone would want him to be and of course he could turn out alright in a different league and system but if you think fans won't look at the available evidence before he plays in order to form an initial judgement then you're mental. I assume these people falsely claiming that he's been written off or that no one should comment about a player before he's played for us refrained from passing comment on more exciting signings like Fellows? If you studiously avoid all those things and refuse to even think about what a player might be like in our team then you're a bit weird quite frankly.

I'm not sure why it's relevant to saints. Stick saints in the same situation as Sunderland and you can bet the saints fans would be cheering all the way if they had a bit of a donkey up front. Conversely stick the Sunderland fans in our situation and they aren't going to be as patient or tolerant with Downs.

I assume the plan is to hope that Stewart stays fit and have this guy as the backup with Archer staying to provide an alternative if we can't get the young guy over the line. That does rather seem like we are settling for the rest of the season which is unfortunate for anyone planning to purchase a half season ticket if they still exist.

Pray tell how do you think an initial judgement is best made? When I hear about a player we might be signing I have a look at his stats and if they look shit I think there may be chance he will be shit. If he has a crap injury record I think there's a chance he will be injured a lot, if the fans of clubs he has been at are very pleased to see the back of him and think he's awful then I'll think there's a fair chance he will be awful for us. Nothing is definite of course but that's normally a pretty good initial indicator before he plays.

Personally.Idon't see what was wrong with using Armstrong as an option from the right. That always seemed his best position for me.

Maybe Archer will fare better in a 4-2-3-1 system?

If I'm honest I think we massively fucked up by bringing in Downs in the summer and given we haven't resold him we don't have the resources available to bring in another striker that suits our profile so we have to go for a loan. Both Armstrong and Archer want out because the club has been toxic for ages and it can't be a very nice place to play.The major issue was Downs imo this is just the fallout from that.
