  1. If a couple of the experienced centre backs are injured no matter how well he is or isn't performing he will have to play, and if there are a couple of injuries in the middle/front that team will be poor. He played two matches and looked a decent prospect but that won't get us promoted. We need experienced competition for all positions or all the pre season hype will be just that.
  2. At this time we have a first team squad of one goalkeeper, three left backs, three centre backs plus Aaron Martin, two central midfielders plus Paul Wotton, two wide midfielders Lallana and Puncheon, only two strikers, Bialkowski and Connolly have not signed yet and Antonio and Waigo have not been replaced. This gives us only 10 starting players in their correct positions with Harding at right back and a bench of Forecast, Seaborne, Martin, Mills, Wotton, Holmes plus youngsters provided nobody is injured before then. This squad needs radical reinforcement or we will be playing four or five youngsters by October as injury attrition kicks in. Seven to nine players need to be signed to turn it into the squad some people think it is including resignings, free transfers, loans, and bought players otherwise we are going to be mid table at the best. If we don't sign good reinforcements some of the better players may see this as a sign to look for a move to a better team before the window closes.
  3. Well done Mike. Congratulations from your friends in Block 5.
  4. The first thing is to have the right equipment fitted then have the lessons. As the skill element improves the fitting process may well need to be carried out again as posture will change. If the equipment is unsuitable even the best players will struggle.
  5. I've got over 18000 hours as an airline pilot. The scary bit is driving to and from the airport.
  6. It has to be the same ball replaced on the exact spot it was lifted from.
  7. All the top manufacturers have fitting centres. It should be noted that there are literally thousands of shafts and each manufacturer has different criteria so X S R S L of different makers have different flexes. There are different tip stiffnesses, kickpoints and shaft weights. Clubs have different swing weights, grip sizes and lofts for identical club numbers. The lengths and lie angles of clubs are matched to the golfers physique so clubs bought off the shelf or second hand could be totally unsuitable. Puring of graphite shafts line up the spline of the shafts to stop irregular flexing (graphite shafts are manufactured from a sheet rolled and pressed), steel shafts don't have this problem. As for drivers the new high trajectory drivers of 12/13 degrees are excellent. Get a set of clubs that fit. Balls are also important and are matched to swing speeds for optimum performance. Max spin for short irons, min spin for high clubhead speed with the driver. Top professionals use low loft drivers, have high clubhead speeds and minimum spin whilst creating terrific spin with the irons using one type of ball.
  8. It is probable that drugs/injections cannot be prescribed by medical staff other than a doctor.
  9. You may need a stiffer shaft on the driver. I fade and draw the ball it just needs a different set up. fading slightly weaker grip to avoid double cross. The correct shaft flex to suit your clubhead speed is absolutely essential. See a club maker or visit a manufacturer fitting centre. Taylormade charge £60 for irons/woods check at Basingstoke.
  10. I hope this is not the case as it wouldn't be the smart move. It was either get rid of him in May or back him. Without new signings the stated expansive Southampton style is pie in the sky. When are you over? we need the dates so we can set up a reunion. We had one in April with about 70% at short notice and set up for a proper sit down when you come over Dicko says he will come down from Edinburgh. email me.
  11. I didn't specify what sort of signings. The numbers stack up and they would include all new players whether, bought, free transfers or loans. I am talking about a squad to fulfill the club's stated ambition, win the league, without strength in depth the injury crises we suffered at times last season will scupper that. We released 13 players with quite a few having played in the first team.
  12. Am I missing something? Doesn't the transfer money go to the FA?
  13. If he isn't, then he is relying on few injuries and probably in reality is sealing his fate. Only by strengthening the squad, replacing the pace, and having duplication to cover the injuries are we going to be able to play a strong side in 46 league matches plus anything up to 60 in total including the three cups.
  14. The real problem is the first team players left who can hold down a first team place provide a waifer thin squad. One goalkeeper, two left backs plus Mills, Four centre backs, two experienced, one young potential and a lad with potential, four midfielders plus Wotton, two strikers. Bialkowski may sign but he may not, Connolly again may sign or not but he really can't be relied on to stay fit. If Wotton is considered a starter we aren't good enough. By my reckoning we need a goalkeeper, two right backs and again not including Murty who has nearly missed three seasons, four midfielders, two strikers. At the moment we only have fifteen first teamers including Wotton but including four centre backs and three left backs and no right back, that leaves a bench of say Seaborne, Martin and Mills and Wotton assuming that Harding would have to play right back. A goalkeeper is essential plus two right backs, cover left and right midfield plus at least one decent central midfielder and two strikers including a like for like targetman to cover Lambert. The wide replacements for Waigo and Antonio are necessary so that we have a strong starting team and strengthening options from the bench. the existing players won't make the playoffs due to the weakening through the inevitable injuries even another experienced centreback wouldn't go amiss. Anything around 8/9 players need to be signed to do what Pardew and Cortese assume we are going to do. Anything less and we will have holes to fill entailing the usual square pegs in round holes we all know won't cut it. We saw some of the youngsters last year in cameo appearances but while promising, they can in no way be deemed ready to be regulars.
  15. I've got my tickets for the Reading game and there are no bar codes on them. Interestingly the Club's car park in Elliott's charged £8 a game equal to £184 per season and was full every week. I used it the odd time. It sounds like the car park season has been brought into line with the weekly rate.
  16. Steve, the only thing I really miss is the time of the last time I was on saints web. It helped to get straight back to the last posts read immediately without having to search.
  17. He had a knee operation some years ago and got the deal sorted than. He has no touble walking for four hours playing golf just can't walk 20yds to an ordinary parking space. Last week his electric trolley broke down so he just pulled a manual one around. His brother told him it was outrageous his response was that he had a badge so he could use it. Just lies to the Doctor etc so he can renew it.
  18. A person at my golf club has a disabled badge and parks his car outside the front door in a disabled bay then proceeds to walk 18 holes at least six days a week. I contacted the blue badge unit and was told that he was entitled to the badge because he was on disability. Nice work if you can get it.
  19. The key, apart from a solid defence, was filling the left side with Gerrard sometimes holding wide and when he came inside Rooney went wide, that meant Lampard was allowed the space to play and Barry got another game under his belt. Milner is a bit limited because of a lack of pace but is a good crosser and Defoe is a goalsniffer which brought us the winner.
  20. I was quoted an outstanding mortgage of about £23m which was settled in full for about £7m. A similar figure to the Ipswich £28m mortgage settlement by Evans when he bought the club. The Stadium along with the club and SLH assets were purchased by Leibherr, the creditors such as Barclays agreed a settlement, leaving the club debt free and SLH liquidated.
  21. An interesting analysis. So explain how the likes of Blackpool, Burnley, Hull, Derby, Watford, without the benefit of large gates, overspending, a sugardaddy, or parachute payments were promoted in the last few years. Any team in the Championship that plays well can get to the Premier, staying there is another matter.
  22. We didn't play 4-4-2 last night or anything like it. Lennon played wide right, Heskey pretty much on his own, Gerrard in front of Barry next to Lampard, nobody on the left, occasionly Cole but but he was tied down by the Algerian right. Rooney wandered all over the place. This meant we played like a three legged dog, no blend or balance. Gerrard and Lampard don't blend, unless Gerrard plays up front and I'm not sure he should, one of them should be dropped. I personally think Cole has to play left side and Rooney up front with Crouch, Gerrard could maybe play wide right provided he stays there and doesn't just play where he wants. Last night was a prime example of the sum of the parts not being anywhere near the collective talent on show. FFS it's the teamwork that's important not a collection of individuals playing it their way off the cuff. There was no shape and no balance and unless that is put right we are coming home.
  23. You may have made a case for a company to do this but it still entails an administrative function from the club, administering the information, forms/details/individual amounts. Clearly the club don't wish to do this. Unless they find that it is costing them money, bearing in mind the way the club is run, I can't see a U turn.
  24. Might as well have an empty stadium as nobody will be able to tell the supporters apart. Just a monotonous drone. It could do away with home advantage if the supporters aren't heard.
  25. I don't use the instalment plan but I can see why it's termination is a problem for those that wish to buy the ticket that way. It would have been easier to justify if notice of the withdrawal had been given at the end of the season or even better before the end of the season. Having said that, I, along with friends who pay up front have no problem with the withdrawal. I personally think that by the first match there will be at least the same number of tickets as last year. As far as I know about 10% buy on instalment but I think many of those will pay up front, some by borrowing elsewhere. I think there will be many more supporters buying tickets for the first time this year on the promise of a successful season and it is by a long way the cheapest way to watch home games. Contrary to the views of some on here, I just don't think the club see it as a major issue. Bearing in mind the numbers involved, 50k at Wembley. 21k average last season, 14k STs, the fact that only a proportion won't renew and will probably be replaced by new applicants, the club will probably feel getting rid of the costs of running the scheme is worthwhile. If they find that it doesn't work then at some point the instalment plan will be reinstated.
